Unsteady galloping of sharp-edged bluff bodies: experimental observations on the effect of the wind angle of attack

  • Light-weight or low-damped structures may encounter the unsteady galloping instability that occurs at low reduced wind speeds, where the classical quasi-steady assumption is invalid. Although this unsteady phenomenon has been widely studied for rectangular cross sections with one side perpendicular to the incidence flow, the effect of the mean wind angle of attack has not been paid enough attention yet. With four sectional models of different side ratios and geometric shapes, the presented research focuses on the effect of the wind angle of attack on unsteady galloping instability. In static tests, comparatively strong vortex shedding force was noticed in the middle of the range of flow incidence where the lift coefficient shows a negative slope. In aeroelastic tests with a low Scruton number, the typical unsteady galloping, which is due to an interaction with vortex-induced vibration and results in unrestricted oscillation initiating at the Kármán vortex resonance wind speed, was observed for the wind angles of attack that characterize relatively strong vortex shedding force. In contrast, for the wind angles of attack with relatively weak shedding force, an "atypical" unsteady galloping was found to occur at a reduced wind speed clearly higher than the Kármán-vortex resonance one. These observations are valid for all four wind tunnel models. One of the wind tunnel models (with a bridge deck cross section) was also tested in a turbulent flow with an intensity about 9%, showing only the atypical unsteady galloping. However, the wind angle of attack with the comparatively strong vortex shedding force remains the most unfavorable one with respect to the instability threshold in low Scruton number conditions.

  • 본 연구에서는 원통형 대책구조물의 설치조건에 따른 토석류의 에너지 저감효과를 분석하기 위해, 원통형 대책구조물을 설치 가능한 소형 수로를 제작하고 구조물의 종방향 설치 수를 변화시켜가면서 실내모형실험을 수행하였다. 또한 토석류와 대책구조물의 크기변화가 흐름특성에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위해, 대형수로 내에서 소형수로 실험과 동일한 종방향 구조물을 배치하고, 토석류와 대책구조물의 크기를 증가시켜 실험을 수행하였다. 소형 및 대형수로 실험결과, 원통형 대책구조물의 설치 개수가 증가는 토석류의 유속과 흐름깊이를 감소시켜, 토석류의 에너지 저감효과를 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다.

  • TRNG (True Random Number Generator)를 테스트 하는 방법은 PRNG (Pseudo Random Number Generator)나 산술연산기를 비롯한 결정적 (deterministic) 소자에 대한 테스트와는 많이 틀려서, 새로운 개념과 방법론이 제시되어야 한다. 하드웨어적으로 결정적인 소자들은 패턴을 사용한 테스트 (ATPG; automatic test pattern generation)에 의해 커버가 될 수 있지만, 순수 난수는 발생 결과의 아날로그적인 특성에 의하여 자동 패턴 생성 방식에 의해 소자를 테스트하기가 불가능하다. 본 논문에서는 하드웨어와 소프트웨어를 결합한 테스트 방식으로 테스트 패턴에 연속적인 패턴의 변화를 주면서 통계적으로 관찰하는 방식인 Diehard test라는 테스트 방식을 연구, 분석하고, 순수 난수의 테스트 시 고려해야 할 주안점을 제안한다.

Static behaviour of lying multi-stud connectors in cable-pylon anchorage zone

  • In order to investigate the behaviour of lying multi-stud connectors in cable-pylon anchorage zone, twenty-four push-out tests are carried out with different stud numbers and diameters. The effect of concrete block width and tensile force on shear strength is investigated using the developed and verified finite element model. The results show that the shear strength of the lying multi-stud connectors is reduced in comparison with the lying single-stud connector. The reduction increases with the increasing of the number of studs in the vertical direction. The influence of the stud number on the strength reduction of the lying multi-stud connectors is decreased under combined shear and tension loads compared with under pure shear. Yet, due to multi-stud effect, they still can't be ignored. The concrete block width has a non-negligible effect on the shear strength of the lying multi-stud connectors and therefore should be chosen properly when designing push-out specimens. No obvious difference is observed between the strength reductions of the studs with 22 mm and 25 mm diameters. The shear strengths obtained from the tests are compared with those predicted by AASHTO LRFD and Eurocode 4. Eurocode 4 generally gives conservative predictions of the shear strength, while AASHTO LRFD overestimates the shear strength. In addition, the lying multi-stud connectors with the diameters of 22 m and 25 mm both exhibit adequate ductility according to Eurocode 4. An expression of load-slip curve is proposed for the lying multi-stud connectors and shows good agreement with the test results.

공진주/비틂 전단(RC/TS)시험기를 이용한 건조 사질토의 변형특성 (Deformational Characteristics of Dry Sand Using Resonant Column / Torsional Shear Testing Equipment)

  • 동적하중을 받는 지반-구조물 시스템의 설계를 위해 전단탄성계수와 감쇠비로 표현되는 지반의 변형특성의 결정은 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 공진주/비틂전단시험기를 이용하여 저변형률 및 중간 변형률하에서 건조사질토의 변형특성을 연구하였다. 동적시험인 공진주시험과 반복시험인 비틀전단시험을 동일한 공시 체를 이용하여 실시하였다. 진동측정시스템을 개량하여 응력 -변형관계가 하중반복회수와 전단변형률의 크기에 영향을 받지않는 선형영역을 찾았으며 이 영역에서 이력감쇠가 존재함을 나타내었다. 반복한계변형률 이상에서는 하중반복회수에 따라 전단탄성계수는 증가하고 감쇠비는 감소하였다. 사질토의 전단탄성계수와 감쇠비는 진동주파수에 영향을 받지 않으며 의사정적시험인 비틈전단시험에서 변형특성과 동적시험인 공진주 시험에서 얻은 값은 비교시 하중반복회수의 영향을 고려하면 동일하다. 그러므로 공진주l비틀전단시 험을 통해 얻은 변형특성은 지반-구조물시스템의 동적해석은 물론 정적해석에서도 적용할 수 있다.

FTTH를 위한 구내선로설비 기술기준개선 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Technical Regulations in the Customer Cabling Systems for FTTH)

  • 본 논문에서는 광케이블을 사용하는 구내선로설비 의 설계 시 배관의 구조와 광케이블의 특성에 대한 영향을 분석하기 위해 모의시험을 행하였다. 특히 광케이블의 포설 시 발생하는 굴곡개소에 따른 광신호의 손실 특성 및 다양한 형태의 광케이블에 대하여 밴딩(bending)으로 인한 곡률반경에 따른 손실 특성을 분석하였다. 굴곡개소의 개수에 따른 광신호의 손실 특성 실험의 결과, 모두 현행 기준에 만족하는 것으로 나타났으며, 케이블 밴딩에 의한 곡률반경에 따른 손실 특성 실험에서는 모든 케이블의 밴딩 곡률 반경이 현행 허용 곡률 반경(30mm)을 만족하였다. 뿐만 아니라 허용 곡률 기준 이하의 곡률 반경에서도 신호의 감쇠가 발생하지 않아 현행 허용 곡률 반경 기준의 개정해야할 필요성이 제기되었다. 본 논문의 결과는 구내 선로설비 기술기준 재 개정을 위한 자료로 제공될 것이며, 향후 광가입자망(FTTH)의 도입을 위한 배관의 요구조건 수립에 활용하고자 한다.

방기가 백서 중대뇌동맥 폐쇄에 의한 국소뇌허혈손상에 미치는 보호효과 (Protective Effects of Stephania tetrandra against Focal Cerebral Ischemic Damage by Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion in Rats)

  • Objective : This study was performed to investigate the protective effect of Stephania tetrandra(ST) against ischemic brain damage after a middle cerebral artery(MCA) occlusion. The effect was evaluated using histological tests, neurobehavioral tests, and biochemical tests. Methods : Rats(Sprague-Dawley) were divided into four groups : sham operated group, MCA occluded group, post MCA occlusion Stephania tetrandra administrated (7.6mg/l00g) group, and normal group. The MCA was occluded by intraluminal method. Stephania tetrandra was administrated orally twice at 1 and 4 hours after MCA occlusion. The neurobehavioral test was performed at 3, 6, 9 and 24 hours after MCA occlusion by posture reflex test and swimming behavioral test. All groups were sacrificed then. The brain tissues were stained with 2% triphenyl tetrazolium chloride(TTC) or 1 % cresyl violet solution, to examine infarct size, volume and cell number. Tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}$ level was measured from sera using Enzyme-Linked Immunoabsorbent Assay(ELISA). The mRNA expression level of inflammatory cytokines and related receptor type I and II, $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6, and IL-10 6hours after MCA occlusion were also studied by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(RTPCR). Results : The results showed that : Stephania tetrandra (1) reduced infarct size and total infarct volume by 52.2% compared to the control group; (2) attenuated significantly in neuronal death, which was shown by a decrease in cell number(P<0.01) and size(P<0.01) in the boundary area of the infarction; (3) significantly reduced serum $TNF-{\alpha}$ level, and increased the mRNA level of IL-10 in the cortex region(P<0.01). However, there was no significant effect on motor deficit in swimming behavioral test. Conclusions : In conclusion, Stephania tetrandra has protective effects against ischemic brain damage at the early stage of ischemia.

초음파 검사용 젤과 젤 용기의 세균증식 원인 (Causes of Bacterial Growth in Gels and Gel Containers Used for Ultrasonography)

  • This study aimed to investigate the causes of bacterial growth to prevent infection caused by ultrasound gel and gel containers in contact with patients during ultrasonography. To investigate bacterial contamination during manufacturing or storage, we cultured ultrasound gels originally supplied from three manufacturers. To analyze bacterial growth according to the lapse of time and frequency of use of the ultrasound gel container, the gel and container were cultured at regular intervals every week for 4 weeks. In addition, to determine the source of infection, the examiner's hand was inspected with hand plate and the degree of bacterial contamination was measured before the test. As a result of the study, bacteria were not detected in the gel provided at the initial supply, and in the gel and gel container used repeatedly for 4 weeks, the same bacteria residing on the skin were identified in the examiner's hand, such as Staphylococcus epidermidis, Micrococcus luteus, Leuconostoc mesenteroid spp cremoris, Kocuria rhizophila, and etc. Separated strains were classified as those of the low- or non-pathogenicity; however, most of these strains may render fatal consequences to patients of lower level of immunity due to acquired tolerance to antibiotics. At week 1, when the number of tests was the highest, 44 colonies were identified, and at week 4, when the number of tests was the lowest, 4 colonies were identified. As r=0.994, it was found that the number of colonies increased as the number of tests increased. In conclusion, it was confirmed that the cause of the infection was not the ultrasound gel, but the examiner's hand. The ultrasound gel or gel container may be contaminated by skin flora of examiner's hands, which can cause opportunistic infection in patients with low immunity. Therefore, it was confirmed that thorough hand disinfection was necessary to block healthcare-associated infections.

투베르쿨린 반부검사(反復檢査)에 의한 회상반응(回想反應)에 관한 연구(硏究) (Anamnestic Skin Reactivity upon Repeated Tuberculin Tests in the BCG Vaccinated or Unvaccinated Primary School Children)

  • Restoration of skin reactivity to 1 TU of tuberculin (RT23) by repeated tests at 10 days interval has been investigated in the BCG vaccinated or unvaccinated primary school children. The results obtained are as follows. 1) Tuberculin reactors showing 6 mm or larger induration to the first tests were 20.0% in the first grade school children and 33.3% in the sixth grade children. Six millimeter or larger reaction than that of the first reaction was found in 14.9% of the first grade children and in 34.6% of the sixth grade children. 2) Six millimeter or larger reactors were 10.8% of the first grade children without BCG scar against both first and second tests and 11.8% of the sixth grade children on first tests and 10.6% on second tests. There was none or very few, if any, in number of 6 mm or larger difference between the first and second tests among children without BCG scar. In addition, there was no children shown 6 mm or larger second reaction than that of the first reaction and thus those reactors seemed to be natural infection. 3) From questionaire survey, parents of 73.3% of the first grade children and of 72.7% of the sixth grade children were aware of BCG vaccination of their children, while parents of 15.1% and 24.6% of the first and sixth grade children did not know their children's vaccination history even if children possessed BCG scar. 4) Of the first grade children whose parents remembered their BCG vaccination, 65.6% were vaccinated within 4 weeks after birth and 25.5% between 4 weeks and one year. Six millimeter or larger reaction on the first tests was observed in 20.2% of the former group and 15.9% of the latter group, however reactors on the second tests were 32.1% and 31.9% respectively. BCG scar was not observed in 13.9% of children. 5) The majority of children (87.3%) were vaccinated in the skin of deltoid area and some (7.7%) at buttock or other areas. Children received first vaccination at the health centers were 68.5% and 30.3% at hospitals. More than 5 mm reaction was found in 18.7% of the former children and in 15.0% of the latter children. From this study restoration of tuberculin reactivity by repeated tests was found very common among the vaccinated children and thus it should be taken into account for the vaccination policy if it is performed after tuberculin testing.

가시성 검사를 이용한 3차원 게임에서의 효율적인 경로 탐색 (Efficient Path Finding in 3D Games by Using Visibility Tests)

  • 이동망(Navigation Mesh)은 캐릭터가 이동할 수 있는 다각형(삼각형) 집합으로 지형을 표현한다. 이동망은 자동화된 생성이 가능하며, 유연하게 3차원 공간을 표현할 수 있다. 지형 구조에 따라 삼각형 수를 달리함으로써 다양한 표현이 가능하며, 캐릭터는 3차원 상태 공간을 2차원 평면 공간으로 표현한 이동망으로만 이동하기 때문에 효율적인 이동과 경로 계획을 보장받을 수 있다. 그러나 현실적인 캐릭터의 이동을 위해 보다 많은 삼각형을 이용하여 지형을 표현함으로 경로 계획 수립 시 많은 상태 공간(다각형)을 검색하여 효율적인 탐색이 이루어지지 않는다. 본 논문에서는 이동망으로 표현된 3차원 게임에서에서의 효율적인 경로 탐색 방법을 위한 가시성 검사 시법을 제안한다. 정교한 다각형으로 이루어진 세밀한 지형에 그래프 기반 탐색을 적용하면 탐색할 공간이 많기 때문에 효율적인 탐색이 이루어지지 않는다. 그래서 본 논문에서는 정교하게 구성되어 있는 3차원 지형에서 효율적인 탐색이 이루어질 수 있도록 가시성 검사(visibility test)를 이용하여 탐색 공간을 줄이는 방법을 사용하였다. 장애물의 정점을 찾고 추정 함수(heuristic function)를 이동망을 지나가는 거리로 정의함으로서, 직선거리를 추정 함수로 정의한 그래프 기반 탐색 방법보다 탐색 영역을 현저하게 줄일 수 있었다.
