A Concept on Seat Assignment Systems

  • This paper presents a concept on seat assignment systems. The concept is based on the assumption that customers or passengers prefer to select seats at their own choosing and allowing them to do so would fragment remaining seats. This undesirable condition may make a group of people intending to be seated together unable to find a sufficient number of consecutive seats. The concept proposed is to set aside a number of seats when the map of available seats is shown for customer's selection. A number of functions are created to allot seats to be visible for choosing according to the number and locations of the remaining seats and the number in the group of the passengers. Passengers' preferences such as window or aisle seating, front seating are taken into accounts. A primitive example of seat assignment system of a Boeing 717 aircraft, assuming the number of passengers in a group being 1, 2 or 3, is given based on the concept.

전동차 객실의 실내공기질 평가 - $CO_2$ 농도와 승객 수 (Assessment of Indoor Air Quality of Subway - $CO_2$ Concentrations and Number of Passengers)

  • With increasing concerns of indoor air quality, $CO_2$ concentration in the public transportation, such as train, bus, and subway, draws big interests. The $CO_2$ concentration in the indoor air is regarded as index of ventilation status rather than that of adverse health effect. In this study, we measured the time-series of $CO_2$ concentrations in the subway saloon at the Subway line 1 (Suwon-station to Cheongyangri-station) with the number of passengers on board. At the same time, the concentration of particulate matter (PM), temperature, and humidity were monitored. It was found that the $CO_2$ concentration was correlated linearly with number of passengers and the relation function is suggested for the prediction of $CO_2$ conecntration by the number of passengers.

  • The number of Chinese tourists entering Korea has constantly increased since 2000. The number of Chinese visitors who have entered though Incheon International Airport last year was 2.75 million, making Chinese citizens the greatest in number out of all foreign visitors. Considering the importance they have on the Korean aviation market, an examination into their airport usage patterns and satisfaction is essential. For the purpose of this study, the Northeastern region of China was chosen. This region has an even distribution in monthly entrants to korea, and has a dual system of Socialist and Capitalist economies. The following study aims to examine the airport use behavior of Northeastern Chinese passengers, and to provide a strategic guideline regarding this. The following empirical study was attempted by surveying Northeastern Chinese passengers who use Incheon International Airport (IIA). Questions included those regarding airport service and facility usage of IIA, and the patterns of Northeastern Chinese passengers regarding this.

Safety of Train Passengers in a Tunnel

  • Along with the opening of the high speed railroad in 2004, the number of long tunnels constructed is increasing and will be continued. In this respect, the fro inside the tunnels is a main cause of drastic damages to both facilities and lives of passengers on board, especially more severe consequences are expected if the fire occurs on a train in urban area. Even though, the threat to human lives due to the increasing number of tong tunnels and increasing train operation times inside such tunnels is getting bigger, the studies to measure safety of the tunnel and to enhance the safety of passengers have not been carried out enough in Korea. Therefore, in this paper, we will use the probabilistic method to predict the average number of deaths of passengers in case of fire on a train iii tunnel, and show the potential risk to passengers which can be a guide for safer design of tunnels to be constructed.

승객 위치정보 기반 지하철 분산대피 안내 시스템 (Distributed evacuation guide system based on positioning information of passengers in the subway station)

  • 본 논문은 승객 위치정보 기반의 지하철 분산대피 안내 시스템을 제안하고자 한다. 최근 지하철 역사는 지하철 승강장 역할 뿐만 아니라, 환승, 쇼핑몰, 영화관 등의 다양한 편의 시설과 결합하여 대형화, 복잡화 되어 가고 있다. 이러한 지하철 역사의 복잡도 증가에 비해서 비상시를 대비한 대피경로, 대피안내 등의 대비체계는 부족한 실정이다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 현재 지하철에 설치되어 있는 Access Point(AP)와 실제 통계 자료를 이용하여 지하철 각 객차의 전체 승객 수를 추정하고, 추정된 승객 수와 지하철 역사의 출구 정보를 기반으로 각 객차의 승객 대피 경로를 방향 지시등과 스마트폰의 Push 알람을 통해 제공함으로써, 비상 시 가장 위험한 지하철 승객의 신속하고 안전한 대피시스템을 제안하였다. OpenWrt 임베디드 OS가 설치된 AP를 이용하여 접속자 수를 추정하는 실험을 수행하였으며, 시뮬레이션을 통해 승객 수를 추정한 결과 신뢰구간 파라미터 $1{\sigma}$, $2{\sigma}$, $3{\sigma}$에서 15%, 17% 그리고 23%의 평균 에러율을 갖는 것을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 본 시스템의 가능성을 확인하였다.

Analysis of Influencing Factors on Air Passenger and Cargo Transport between Korea, China and Japan

  • In this study, the main factors affecting the number of passengers and cargo volume transported by air between Korea, China and Japan over the past 20 years are to be identified. For the analysis, data from three countries' GDP and per capita as well as exchange rates and international oil prices were used, and OLS multiple regression analysis and fixed effect analysis were performed. As a result of the analysis, both the number of passengers and cargo volume transported by air showed a negative (-) direction for GDP, which represents the country's economic power, and a positive (+) direction, for per capita GDP, which represents income level. And the increase in the exchange rate between China and Japan acted in a positive (+) direction on the increase in the number of passengers, and the effect of oil prices was found to be limited.

도시철도 차량별 혼잡도 개선 방안 (A study on the improvement of the congestion level for each car in urban railways)

  • In urban railways operated by 10 cars or 8 cars per trainset, passengers split up and board a train. On-board passengers for each car are not aware of congestion level of other cars of the train. Passengers waiting at stations can not predict congestion rate of the car which they get on. Therefore, the number of passengers is not equally distributed. The cars with a relatively low congestion level and the ones with a high level coexist in the train. The objective of this paper is to enhance passenger convenience and improve train operational efficiency through operational headway adjustments according to congestion level of each car. It also aims to spread passengers out evenly and assess the degree of congestion on each car by measuring the weight of each car including passengers during peak and off-peak hours.

KTX 객실의 $CO_2$ 농도와 승객 수 및 터널구간과의 상관관계 (Correlation of $CO_2$ Concentration with Number of Passengers and Tunnel Regions in the KTX Cabin)

The $CO_2$ concentration in the indoor air is regarded as index of ventilation status rather than that of adverse health effect. In this study, we measured the time-series of $CO_2$ concentrations in the KTX cabin during the journey of Gyongbu-line (Seoul-Busan) and Honam-line (Seoul-Mokpo) with the number of passengers on board. At the same time, the concentration of particulate matter (PM), temperature, humidity and gaseous pollutants including HCHO and VOCs were monitored. It is found that the $CO_2$ concentration was correlated linearly with number of passengers and was highly correlated with tunnel regions where the ventilation unit (flap) was closed.

  • With advantages of open spaces and existing HVAC facilities, subway station, if unexpected disastrous situation happens on the ground, can be used as a temporary safe place for evacuees. The main objective of this study is to establish a guideline on estimating evacuation capacity of the subway station and evaluating levels of service of evacuation for officials to control the situation. This guideline includes available spaces of the station, capacity of sanitary fixtures, and total number of passengers, etc. In this paper, we first analyzed the number of passengers of SMRT (Line 5~Line 8) during AM peak hour and then evaluated the number of passengers using toilets at that time. In addition, we calculated the seating capacity of subway stations on SMRT using the difference between the actual number of toilets and the estimated number of ones from the occupancy time of each toilet.

  • 공항이 대형화되면서 공항 수속에 소요되는 시간은 여객서비스 측면에서 중요하게 부각되는 사항이다. 국제민간기구에서는 이를 국제적으로 표준화하여 전체 출입국 소요시간이 일정수준을 넘지 않도록 권고하고 있다. 승객예고 모델은 체크인카운터, 출국장, 입국장 등 공항수속 지역에서 여객의 시간대별 수요를 예측하기 위해 개발하였다. 출국 승객예고의 경우, 시간적 개념에서 체크인 수속 완료시갈 출국장 이동시간을 모델화하였고, 공간적 개념에서 체크인카운터 및 출국장 선택을 모델화하였다. 입국 및 환승 승객 예고의 경우, 시간적 개념에서 항공기 도착 후 게이트 접속, 승객하기 후 입국장 이동시간을, 공간적 개념에서 게이트 및 입국장 선택을 모델 화하였다. 출국 및 입국 예고의 평균 오차율은 각 15%, 10% 수준으로 파악되었는데, 항공사 예약자료의 오차율 5%를 감안할 때 우수한 정확도를 가지는 것으로 평가된다. 이와 같은 초단기 수요예측 모델 개발을 통해 승객의 집중도에 따라 탄력적으로 자원을 배분할 수 있게 됨으로써 한 차원 높은 서비스를 제공하게 된 것으로 판단된다.
