A survey on the kimchi preference among elementray school students in Pusan was conducted in April of 1995 to get basic information needed for the development of special kimchi for the children. Total of 1100 children in 2nd, 4th and 6th grade from public and private elementary school participated in this survey. Sixty eight percent of students answered that they like kimchi. However, kimchi preference(17.6%) among other side dishes-pork cuttlet.ham.sausage(54.1%), egg roll(9.4%), soysauced beef(8.2%), toasted laver(6.3%), bean sprout namul(3.0%), danmooji(1.0%), and squash namul(0.4%)-was relatively low. It can be interpreted that elementary school student prefers processed food specially animal food to kimchi. The hot taste of the kimchi was the number one reason of their dislike of kimchi, and it was the most important reason for those also like kimchi. Thus it can be thought as the representative taste of kimchi. Chinese cabbage kimchi was found to be the most favorite kimchi and kakdugi(seasoned pickles of cubed radish), nabak-kimchi(mildly seasoned water based kimchi that is mixture of chinese cabbage and cubed radish) and jchonggag kimcchi(seasoned pickles of pony tail radish) and cucumber kimchi were followed in order. Among the various ingredients in kimchim children like cabbage best but they didn't like galic, ginger, green onion and fermented fish sauce which give strong flavor in kimchi.
The life cycle of cabbage-white butterfly is presented in textbooks as an activity to understand the life cycle of animals for 3rd graders in elementary schools. This study was intended to analyze the contents of the current science textbook in the 2015 revised curriculum and suggested improvement of contents. The life cycle of cabbage-white butterfly presented in the textbook consists of eggs, caterpillars, pupae and adult insects in linear steps, and there is a shortage of activity to show the full life cycle. To improve the contents, we checked life cycle of cabbage-white butterfly through a series of experiments. To collect eggs in the out field, kale and cabbage seedlings were placed next to outdoor flowers, next to artificial butterfly feeder, and in grasses without flowers during June. The largest number of butterfly eggs were found from kale beside flowers. The sponges soaked in sugar water or honey water were provided for adult butterflies in ground-type, hook-type and ceiling-type form. Most absorbent activities were observed on the sponge soaked in honey water installed on the ceiling. From the third day, butterfly started to lay eggs. In order to incorporate these facts in the textbook, we suggest to reorganize the relevant contents of the textbook as follows. The kale seedlings should be placed next to the flowers on the school flower bed from June to collect the cabbage white butterfly eggs. A sponge soaked with honey should be placed on top of the breeding net for butterflies. Breeding net should be big enough to keep butterfly flying freely and several kale flowerpots. After laying eggs, butterflies should be released in the field. This process will give students an better understanding of the life cycle of animal.
Stepping into the beginning of the fourth industrial revolution, we need new mathematics education plans and policies to foster talent in people for future. Investigating the present condition and teachers' perceptions of mathematics education in schools is an essential process in making mathematics education plans and policies that reflect the periodical changes and social needs. Thus, we developed a survey to investigate teachers' perceptions and present condition of mathematics education, conducted the survey for teachers in elementary, middle, and high schools, and analyzed the results of the survey. In this study, focusing on the results of the survey, we interpreted the results and provided implications for mathematics educational policies. Through frequency analysis of individual questionnaires and crosstabulation analysis between questionnaires, we could provide mathematics teachers' overall perceptions of mathematics education and basic information on the conditions of mathematics education in the schools. In addition, the findings of this study suggest that policymakers should consider the followings when developing new mathematics education plans and policies: having the proper number of students per class, reducing non-teaching work, supporting teachers' expertise in evaluation, improving Internet access and technology equipment, supporting the school administrators' change of perceptions of mathematics education, retraining teachers in the active use of ICT or technological tools, and supporting students having difficulty learning mathematics.
This study was conducted to identify the characteristics of Korean diet in the view of food and food group intakes. The study subjects consisted of preschool children(PC), elementary school children(EC), high school students(HS), college students(CS), and adults over 30 years old living Seoul and the surrounding areas. The subjects over 30 years old were classified to 30-49 years, 50-69 years, and over 70 years. A dietary survey was conducted using 24-hour recall method and data were collected from 2392 subjects. Rice was a major contributor to many nutrients intake because of the amount of consumption. Vegetable oil made great contribution to fat intakes and eggs, squid, and anchovy supplied much cholesterol compared to other foods in all the age groups. Milk was major contributor of fat and cholesterol as well as calcium in younger age group, and seasoning gave much contribution to iron intakes. Mean dietary variety score(DVS) was 32 for EC group and 17 for subjects over 70 years, and tended to decrease along the increasing age. EC group consumed most variable number of foods of all groups but they consumed many junk foods, therefore the MAR value was low despite their high DVS value. Mean dietary diversity score(DDS) of each age group from PC group to subjects over 70 years was 4.34, 4.28, 3.79, 3.89, 3.76, 3.56, and 3.25, respectively. Food group, which was consumed below the minimum amount, was mainly fruits in all the age groups, and many subjects in HS group and over 30 years consumed dairy products below the minimum amount. From these results, age specific nutritional problems were found. PC group and subjects over 50 years seemed to need more diverse food intake than now, EC group did nutrient dense food, and HS group and subjects over 30 years did dairy products. As a study on the advancement planning for the telecommunications infrastructure of the educational facilities for the purpose of the proliferation of e-learning, this study was conducted with the intents of preparing for the design guidelines to be considered in the initial stage of an architectural design for applying WLANs(wireless LANs), which play a role as the international standard for next generation of telecommunications, to the educational facilities and of making a proposal for changes of the existing computer rooms according to the appearance of new teaching and learning tools, for example, digital textbooks, and the proliferation of personal information devices. In this study, the design guidelines were made by analyzing the elements to be applied to architecture designs as well as understanding the trend of the cabling, pathways and spaces requirements in the area of telecommunications after examining the relevant international standards, such as ANSI and TIA, etc., in order for applying WLANs to the educational facilities. In addition, a field survey was conducted targeting on the elementary schools in 'C' city in order to suggest a proposal for the improvements of operations and maintenance of the existing computer labs and computers. As the results of analyzing the data from the field study, it was surveyed that the following matters should be urgently improved in order for the schools to be developed as Ubiquitous schools in the future: First, the biggest hold-up is how to maintain the desktop computers well. Second, there are some limitations far the students to use the computers enough due to the lack of the number of computers. Third, the computer education for the students is limited to instructing the students in training themselves only for the functions of each kind of application software.
Telepresence in robot assisted learning has preferred low-height, shorter than life-size robotic platforms for reasons such as operational stability, user convenience and psychological comfort in human robot interaction. If, however, the reason for using a telepresence robot is to display the authority of a social superior to a social inferior, one can hypothesize that a robotic platform which reflects real-life height advantage would be better suited for the stated purpose than conventional low-height platforms. In order to test the hypothesis, we examined whether the height of the robot had an effect on an instructor connected to a telepresence robot in robot-assisted learning with regard to controlling a large number of elementary school students. The pre-and post experiment demonstrates that the use of a life-size telepresence robot, compared to a child-size telepresence robot, failed to make a meaningful difference in the instructors' authority being accepted by the students. However, behavioral measures shows that a taller robot has more merits in controlling students.
The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for preventing dental caries, and maintaining and enhancing oral health. The subjects of this study were 138 male and female students who were in the 6th grade of elementary schools in Gimpo city. This study investigated the number of decayed tooth and the factors related to the number of decayed tooth, by using the results of questionnaire and oral health survey over such subjects. So, this study obtained the following conclusions. 1. For the number of decayed tooth, 'nothing(D = 0)' was the highest as 37.7%, and 'from two to three' was 23.9%, 'more than four' was 21%, and 'one' was 17.4% in order. 2. For the frequency of visiting dental clinics within the last one year, 'one to two times' was the highest as 52.2%, and the children who have not visited dental clinics even one time during one year were 23.9%. 3. For average daily tooth brushing frequency, 'two times' was the highest as 71.7%. For the use of oral health devices besides toothbrushes, 'I don't use' was the highest as 54.3%. For the experience of sealant and fluoride application, 'nothing' was the highest as 86.9% and 71.3% respectively. For the recognition on the use of fluoride dentifrice, 'I don't know' was the highest as 66.9%. 4. The socio-demographic factors related to the number of decayed tooth were mother's age, mother's background, mother's employment, and after-school fosterer(p > 0.05). 5. The oral health care factors related to the number of decayed tooth were average daily tooth brushing frequency, the use of oral health devices besides toothbrushes, and the experience of fluoride application.(p > 0.05) 6. The snack intake factors related to the number of decayed tooth were tooth care foods intake frequency and decaying foods intake frequency(p > 0.05). 7. The oral health belief item related to the number of decayed tooth was susceptibility(p > 0.05). 8. According to the results of regression analysis, the less mother was employed, the more the average daily tooth brushing frequency was, the more the tooth care foods intake frequency was, the less the decaying foods intake frequency was, and the higher susceptibility was, the lower the number of decayed tooth. 9. In order to prevent and cure early the dental caries which occur frequently in elementary school students, the establishment of oral health centers within schools should be expanded to promote tooth brushing instruction, fluoride solution rinsing, diet control, periodic oral examination.
This study examined the adequacy of a school classroom's occupant load density standard to cope with the issues associated with the decreasing number of students and regional variations. Therefore, this study analyzed the occupant load density standards of kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, high school, and universities using the data open to the public by the Ministry of Education. The results revealed a high variance in the occupant load density according to the school type. The median values were 1.49, 3.45, 2.64, 2.45, and $3.41m^2/person$ for kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, high school, and universities, respectively. Although the occupant load density was higher than the current standard ($1.9m^2/person$), except for kindergarten, the present standard did not need to be improved immediately, considering the purpose of calculating the maximum occupancy. On the other hand, if improvements are made in line with other enhancements of a national education policy, it will be possible to mitigate the measure to $2.5m^2/person$ based on the survey results.
This paper studied the statistics such as the total number of syllables, the kinds of syllables, the frequency of syllables, the number of eojeols(word phrases unique in Korean language), the kinds of eojeols, average length of eojeols, the frequency of eojeols and the parts of speech in four different Korean textbooks for 6th-grade students(6-1 Korean Reading, 6-1 Korean Speaking Listening Writing, 6-2 Korean Reading and 6-2 Korean Speaking Listening Writing). The results of the statistical survey are as follows: the number of Hangul syllables was 194,683; the kinds of syllables were 1,290; the average frequency of syllables was 150.9; the number of eojeol was 70,185; the kinds of eojeol were 22,647; the average frequency of eojeol was 3.1; the average length of eojeols was 2.8 syllables, the longest one consist of 10 syllables. In parts of speech, nouns are used more in the Korean Reading textbook, and verbs are used more in Korean Speaking Listening Writing.

Since the Shimane Prefecture government in Japan enacted "Takeshima Day" in March 2005, it has held commemorative ceremonies with Japanese politicians present each year on February 22. Japan has marked Dokdo as its territory in elementary and middle high school textbooks, and the number of such references has been increasing in recent years. Shimane Prefecture, which is the area nearest to Dokdo is strengthening Dokdo education in its geography classes at elementary and middle schools as part of regional studies. The study and education on Dokdo was begun by social studies teachers in the Oki Islands in Shimane Prefecture, but now extends throughout the prefecture. The auxiliary educational materials regarding Dokdo produced in Shimane Prefecture include teaching guidelines for teachers, worksheets for students, CDs containing statistics and picture files, and two kinds of DVD movie clips for each grade. In particular, schools teach the damage to the Japanese fishery industry caused by Korea's illegal occupation of Dokdo. This will likely form anti-Korean sentiments among Japanese students. It is hoped that Korean and Japanese scholars will work together to develop Dokdo auxiliary textbooks in order to improve the correct historical understanding of Dokdo.
