  • When a liquid is supplied through a nozzle onto a relatively non-wetting inclined solid surface, a narrow rivulet forms. There exist several regimes of rivulet flow depending on various flow conditions. In this paper, the fundamental mechanism behind the transition of a linear rivulet to a droplet flow is investigated. The experiments show that the droplet flow emerges due to the necking of a liquid thread near the nozzle. Based on the observation, it is argued that when the retraction velocity of a liquid thread exceeds its axial velocity, the bifurcation of the liquid thread occurs, and this argument is experimentally verified.

  • Droplet sizes produced from a mist blower should be adequate to get highly biological effects with a reasonable level of work performance. However the droplet sizes from the conventional nozzles of the mist blower were around VMD 95 to 469$\mu$ which were relatively large as compared with the recommended droplet sizes in liquid flow rate of 17.2 m$/ell$s with air flow rate of 16660$m^3$/s on the maximum travel distance of about 4.0 m. The velocity of air stream at the point where two fluids, air and liquid, impact each other, was tried to maximize as much as possible in order to enhance the atomization performance of a newly designed twin fluid nozzles with the same or better level of performance of the conventional mist blower, The configuration of nozzle orifice should be designed to enlarge the contact area between air and liquid to enhance the atomization.

  • The modelling of some different types of switchgears has been reported in the previous papers. This paper consists of two parts. The first part concerns the modelling and simulation of switching arcs with an auto-expansion circuit breaker as an example. The second part focuses on the simulation of the PTFE nozzle ablation effect with three different nozzle shapes. For circuit breakers, the modelling of moving contact and the choice of time steps are discussed before typical results are given and compared with available test result.

  • The present study has focused on the characteristics of droplet formation from an inkjet nozzle driven by a piezoelectric actuator. As an operating fluid, ethylene glycol was used and the physical properties of it such as viscosity, surface tension, contact angle and shear stress were measured. During the experiments, various temperatures and driving voltages are imposed on a capillary tube. These conditions result in a proper drive condition or an overdrive condition. In case of the proper drive condition, an image processing technique is applied to measure the diameter of a single free drop. As a result, the size of droplet is increased when the driving voltage is increased from 160 V to 190 V at 25$^{\circ}C$ In the overdrive condition where temperature or driving voltage becomes higher than the proper drive condition, satellites and the misdirected jets happen.

  • It is known that the fluidized bed incinerator, which is the subject of analysis, shows excellent performance in heat and mass transfer due to excellent mixing and contact performance between fluidized sand and fuel, and also shows relatively good combustion characteristics thanks to good mixing and long residence time for low-grade fuels. have. In this study, air flow analysis is performed to understand the characteristics of co-firing of sludge, waste oil and solid waste in the fluidized bed incinerator, flow characteristics of flue gas, and discharge characteristics of pollutants. The fluidized bed incinerator subject to analysis is a facility that incinerates factory waste and general household waste together with sludge, with a processing capacity of 32 tons/day. to be. In addition, the operation method was designed for continuous operation for 24 hours. As a result, it can be seen that the lower combustion air and the introduced secondary air are changed to a strong turbulence and swirl flow form and exit through the outlet while rotating inside the freeboard layer. The homogeneous one-way flow form before reaching the secondary air nozzle has very high diffusivity with the high-speed jet flow of the nozzle.

  • The objective of this research was to investigate the enhancement of heat transfer by mesh in water/air direct contact air conditioning system. Mesh is inserted as a turbulent promoter in front of the water injection nozzle. The heat transfer characteristics with and without mesh and the effect of the number of inserted mesh and mesh porosity size have been studied experimentally. Inserted mesh improves heat transfer efficiency compared to non-inserted mesh system and heat transfer efficiency increased as the number of mesh is increased. Meanwhile, heat transfer efficiency decreased as the porosity of the mesh is increased. With inserted mesh, inlet and outlet temperature difference of air increased more than 50%. Heat exchange time of water/air to reach the 100% humidity decreased less than 30%. This result shows inserted mesh can enhance the performance of the water/air direct contact air conditioning system.

  • Waterjets for rocks have various advantages of the non-contact and eco-friendly excavation using only water and abrasive. To overcome the problems (e.g., dust and noise occurrence) of the conventional drilling methods, waterjet excavation methods are broadly used. It is advantageous to operate a couple of nozzles in order to increase the waterjet excavation efficiency. When multiple nozzles are used, it is essential to analyze the excavation performance and shape according to the nozzle operation method. In this study, nozzle angle, horizontal distance between nozzles, and standoff distance were defined as nozzle operating parameters and the excavation performance and shape were analyzed. As a result of the experiment, when the nozzle angle and standoff distance are increased, the excavation depth is decreased and the effective depth tends to be increased. In addition, based on the experimental results, the excavation shape criteria required for nozzle insertion were proposed and optimal nozzle operating parameters were derived according to the criteria. This study result is expected to be used as useful basic research in the future development of multiple waterjet nozzles for rock drilling.

  • A numerical method is presented for computing unsteady incompressible two-phase flows with immersed solids. The method is based on a level set technique for capturing the phase interface, which is modified to satisfy a contact angle condition at the solid-fluid interface as well as to achieve mass conservation during the whole calculation procedure. The modified level set method is applied for numerical simulation of bubble deformation in a micro channel with a cylindrical solid block and liquid jet from a micro nozzle.
