Effect of Injection Pressure on the Flash Boiling Spray from Simple Orifice Nozzle (인젝터 압력이 단공노즐 감압비등 분무에 미치는 영향)

  • Flash boiling occurs in a couple of modern engineering systems and understanding its mechanism is important. In this experimental study, discharge coefficient of flash boiling spray from simple orifice nozzle was measured, and backlight imaging was acquired at injection pressure to 6.0 bar and temperature to 163℃ for the purpose. Pressurized water by pump was used for working fluid and was heated by electric heater and ejected through simple orifice nozzle diameter of 0.5 mm. High speed camera with long distance microscope was used for backlight imaging in two FoV having magnification of 3.3 and 0.64. The decrease of discharge coefficient according to degree of superheating and evolution of flash boiling spray imaged at various pressure and temperature were explained by the pressure field inside the injector.

The Effect of Injection Angle and Pressure on Etch of Invar Plate Using Industrial Etch-Nozzle (산업용 에칭노즐을 이용한 Invar합금판의 식각에 분사각과 압력이 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the significant characteristics in spray of industrial etch-nozzle for the design of process. The experiment was carried out with different spray pressure and industrial nozzle in wet etch. The characteristics of liquid spray, such as axial velocity and sauter mean diameter measurements were obtained by PDA. And impact force was calculated from spray characteristics. It was found that the fluid with higher spray pressure resulted in the smaller SMD and the higher droplet velocity and impact force. The depth of etch was increased in case of high spray pressure. In the case of injection angle oscillated between $20^{\circ}$, the result indicated constant effect of etch. The correlation between the spray characteristics and etch ones were analyzed. The depth of etch had good positive correlation with axial velocity and impact force. The result clearly shows that the characteristics in wet etch are strongly related to the spray characteristics with process.

  • In this study, the effect of injection pressure on the column diameter and droplet velocity of liquid jet with the weakly turbulent Rayleigh-like breakup mode is experimentally studied using digital microscopic holography (DMH). The injection nozzle has the diameter of $50{\mu}m$ and injection pressure is varied from 0.1 to 0.4 MPa. When the micro liquid jet is injected into still air, the double-pulsed holograms was recorded on a CCD sensor and numerically reconstructed in order to obtain well focused images. In this study, the liquid column diameter from $50{\mu}m$ orifice nozzle is shown to be changed slightly but the droplet velocity is increased proportionally as the injection pressure is increased.

  • Spray drift of agricultural nozzles has become a big issue because it causes low precision targeting and environmental pollution. In order to reduce the spray drift, study spray characteristics of agricultural nozzles is virtually important. In this study, shadowgraph and Mie-scattering visualization techniques were used to study the macroscopic spray and atomization characteristics of an agricultural nozzle. PDPA was used to measure the atomization characteristics of spray. The injection pressure is set to 1 bar, 3 bar and 5 bar, which covers the working range of the nozzle. For the PDPA experiment, 75 points were measured in an area of 160 mm × 120 mm at 10 mm intervals directly below the nozzle to grasp the overall atomization characteristics of the spray. It was found that the spray width and sheet width showed a linear correlation. As the injection pressure increased, the sheet expansion in the 0-degree direction and the sheet swing in the 90-degree direction jointly promoted the breakup of the sheet. In addition, the area close to the central axis had a large droplet velocity, and since a large droplet velocity promoted atomization of spray, the area close to the central axis had a smaller spray droplet diameter than the left and right regions.

  • A simplified one-dimensional analysis has been performed to predict the local pressure distributions in Y-Jet twin-fluid atomizers. Fluid compressibility was considered both in the gas(air) and two-phase(mixing) ports. The annular-mist flow model was adopted to analyze the flow in the mixing port. A series of experiments also has been performed; the results show that the air flow rate increases and the liquid flow rate decreases with the increase of the air injection pressure and/or with the decrease of the liquid injection pressure. From the measured injection pressures and flow rates, the appropriate constants for the correlations of the pressure loss coefficients and the rate of drop entrainment were decided. The local pressures inside the nozzle by prediction reasonably agree with those by the experiments.

Effect of Air Velocity on Combustion Characteristics Scale Burner

  • This paper presents the combustion characteristics of hydrocarbon fuel from a conventional pressureswirl nozzle of a small-scale burner. The nozzle has orifice diameters of 0.256 mm and liquid flow rates raging from 50 to 64 mL/min were selected for the experiments. The furnace temperature distribution along the axial distance, the gas emission such as CO, $CO_2,\;NOx,\;S0_2,$ flue gas temperature, and combustion efficiency were studied. The local furnace and flue gas temperatures decreased with an increase in air velocity. At injection pressures of 1.1 and 1.3 MPa the maximum furnace temperatures occurred closer to the burner exit, at an axial distance of 242 mm from the diffuser tip. The CO and $CO_2$ concentrations decreased with an increase in air velocity, but they increased with an increase in injection pressure. The effect of air velocity on NOx was not clearly seen at low injection pressures, but at injection pressure of 1.3 MPa it decreased with an increase in air velocity. The effect of air velocity $SO_2$ concentration level is not well understood. The combustion efficiency decreased with an increase in air velocity but it increased with an increase in injection pressure. It is recommended that injection pressure less than 0.9 MPa with air velocity not above 8.0 m/s would be suitable for this burner.

A Feasibility Study of Seawater Injection Nozzle Prototype Development by Using 3D Printing (3D 프린팅을 이용한 해수분사용 노즐 시제품 개발의 가능성 연구)

  • The seawater cooling system of naval ships is installed to remove the toxic substances generated by CBR (Chemical, Biological, and Radiological) warfare and reduce the infrared signature of naval ships from outside the hull. The dispersion range of the nozzle is determined according to the injection pressure of seawater and the nozzle type. Therefore, it is necessary to select the appropriate injection pressure and design the optimal nozzles to increase the seawater dispersion area and maximize the efficiency of the cooling system. In this study, the applying feasibility of 3D printing technology to produce an injection nozzle for the seawater cooling system was examined. To this end, the extruded plastic specimens were fabricated by 3D printing, and the physical properties of the specimens were estimated through tensile testing. After this, the strain and stress of the nozzle as a function of the pressure were simulated by applying the estimated results to the finite element analysis. The finite element analysis results showed that the nozzle remained within the elastic range at the optimal pressure. The nozzle was estimated to be structurally stable, and the possibility of this study was confirmed.

Analytical method to estimate cross-section stress profiles for reactor vessel nozzle corners under internal pressure

  • This paper provides a simple method by which to estimate the cross-section stress profiles for nozzles designed according to ASME Code Section III. Further, this method validates the effectiveness of earlier work performed by the authors on standard nozzles. The method requires only the geometric information of the pressure vessel and the attached nozzle. A PWR direct vessel injection nozzle, a PWR outlet nozzle, a PWR inlet nozzle and a BWR recirculation outlet nozzle are selected based on their corresponding specific designs, e.g., a varying nozzle radius, a varying nozzle thickness and an outlet nozzle boss. A cross-section stress profile comparison shows that the estimates are in good agreement with the finite element analysis results. Differences in stress intensity factors calculated in accordance with ASME BPVC Section XI Appendix G are discussed. In addition, a change in the dimensions of an alternate nozzle design relative to the standard values is discussed, focusing on the stress concentration factors of the nozzle inside corner.

Permeation Characteristics of the Tubular Membrane Module Equipped wtih the Air Injection Nozzle Tube (공기주입 노즐관이 장착된 관형막의 투과특성)

  • The air injection nozzle tube was inserted inside of the tubular membrane module to reduce membrane fouling and improve the permeate flux. The average pore size of membrane was $0.1\;{\mu}m$ and the yeast was used as a foulant. All of permeate experiments were started without air injection for the module equipped with the nozzle tube, then carried out continuously with air injection. Finally, the nozzle tube was removed from the module and the permeate was measured without air injection. The measured permeate fluxes were compared to examine the effect of air injection. The fluxes for air injection were consistently maintained or increased. The fluxes of no-air injection with the nozzle tube were greater than those of the empty tubular module. As operating pressure decreased to 0.4 bar, the flux enhancement of air injection based on no-nozzle case increased to 21%. Flux enhancements of air injection were above 30% as the gas/liquid two-phase flow was changed from the stratified-smooth to the intermittent pattern due to increase of gas flowrate.

An Experimental Study on the Spray Characteristics of Deflector Nozzle (충돌형 노즐의 분무특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This study describes the external spray characteristics of deflector nozzle such as the breakup procedures of liquid sheet, spray angle, discharge coefficient and bubble behaviors of spray and SMD at deflector nozzle. In order to visualize the spray behaviors shadow graphy technique were used. According to the increase of injection pressure, development of the spray passes through the dribbling, distoted jet, closed bubble due to the contraction by surface tension forces, the bubble opens into hollow tulip shape, and the curved surface straightened to form a conical sheet like as the simplex swirl atomizer. Spray cone angle was nearly 90 deg. Variations of SMD were examined in order to describe the dependency of SMD on the injection pressure and orifice diameter. The shape of deflector and oriffice diameter had an effect on the discharge coefficient.
