  • Monthly wind stress, wind stress curl and volume transport stream functions are computed in the Eastern Sea(Japan Sea) based upon observed wind and atmospheric pressure data respectively. The presented two results show different distributios on locality and season but as common features the results reveal the northwesterly surface wind stress \ulcorner 새 the monsoon in winter, south to southwesterly wind stress \ulcorner 새 the southerly wind in summer and strond anticyclonic curl in the northern part on the Eastern Sea(Japan Sea) in winter. In the distributions obtained from the sea level atmospheric pressure data, the maximum value of the wind stress and of curls of small scales are shown off the southeast coast of Siberia and northeast coast of Korea. Volume transport distributions obtained from the Sverdrup relationship suggest that the strong northward boundary current can be formed along the northeast coast of Korea in winter and weak southward boundary current in summer.

  • Though there are several definitions for the Northeast Asia, in this paper Northeast Asia is defined as the geographical sphere including five countries. Those five countries are China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Japan, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea. For the announcement of regional preparatory process at the $4^{th}$ World Water Forum (4WWF), basic characteristics and main water-related issues were surveyed in the Northeast Asian countries. This paper is mainly composed of basic characteristics of each country, main water challenges, implemented strategies, successful experiences and local actions, etc. The five countries provided one's country report on the Government basis in 2004 to Korea Water Forum (KWF) as the coordinator of Northeast Asia for the 4WWF. • The result of comparison and analysis study of institutionalization and exchange status of environmental education in South Korea, the People's Republic of China, and Japan, Northeast Asian countries that are closely related to Korea, is summarized as the following: First, this study shows that the process of environmental education institutionalization requires an instigation. For example, a specific environmental policy is established after raising awareness to modify environmental policies, as the result of aggravation of damage due to pollution. Therefor, it is the necessary process for the establishment of an environmental policy in order to proceed environmental education institutionalization. Second, even though institutionalization processes of environmental education for the three countries are considered to be very similar, differences are apparent if one carefully examines the content of environmental education for each country. In particular, South Korea, the People's Republic of China, and Japan all agree that environmental education is necessary, but differ in their ideas of main body for advocating institutionalization, as well as maintenance level of environmental education. Third, the order of establishment of environmental education institutionalization is Japan, South Korea and China and there exists about a 10 years time gap between each country. Fourth, the environmental education exchange was formed between South Korea and the People's Republic of China and between South Korea and Japan, first. Then it was enlarged to TEMM(Tripartite Environment Ministers Meeting) and TEEN(Tripartite Environmental Education Network) among three countries.

  • Until now, research on inter-Korean economic cooperation and economic integration has been limited to the areas of the two Koreas. However, Korea is connected with many countries in Asia through the global value chain. Thus, if inter-Korean trade deepens, it may affect the trade structure of neighboring countries. In order to establish a specific inter-Korean economic integration policy when North Korea becomes a normal state in the future, an analysis that reflects the trade structure including Northeast Asia must be preceded. Therefore, in this paper, the impact of inter-Korean trade on Korea, China and Japan was analyzed using the international input and output table containing actual trade data. The scope of analysis was limited to agriculture, reflecting North Korea's demand for economic cooperation. The results show that trade in the agricultural sector between the two Koreas did not have a significant effect of production and value added. but when China and Japan participate in trade with North Korea, the production effect was calculated to be as high as 4 million dollars in Korea and up to 10 million dollars in Japan. And China showed up to 520 million dollars. In addition, the value-added effect was calculated up to $1 million in Korea, up to $4 million in Japan, and up to $250 million in China.

  • Northeast Asia comprises many characteristic cultural areas including China, Mongolia, Korea and Japan. These areas have their own traditional food cultures, and Korea is known as the home of fermented foods in this region. The origin of Northeast Asian fermented foods, cereal alcoholic beverages, fermented vegetables(kimchi), fermented fish and fermented soybean products were investigated in relation to the primitive earthen vessels developed in this region. The geographical and environmental background of the appearance of primitive pottery culture in the Korea Strait region, and its influence on the development of fermentation technology in Northeast Asia were reviewed focusing on Korean dietary culture.

Electronic commerce and trade is the mainstream of this trend, and realization of a cyberspace without physical, spatial, and time restraints has led radical structural changes in international trade. Northeast Asia including Korea, China and Japan is becoming more important as a core economic region in terms of economic growth, intra-regional trade in particular. The introduction to electronic trade system and networks would playa vital role in speeding up trade of commodities, service and information etc. Therefore the study aims to examine a scheme to facilitate international trade in Northeast Asia by establishing information infrastructures. The study begins with reviewing current situation in information infrastructure such as the number of PC, utilization ratio of internet, information network, volume of electronic commerce. It is analyzed that what kinds of obstacles to facilitating electronic trade in Northeast Asian countries in terms of physical infrastructure, institutions, regulations, technologies regarding information exchange among countries. Finally this study presents some suggestions in order to remove the problems currently existed in vitalizing electronic trade.

  • Economic development is the common problem for Northeast Asian Countries, even if their political regimes are defferent. What we based on the economic development are infrastructure and regional development. As a matter of course, they have to be accompanied with science and technology. In the Japan Sea(the Eastern Sea) Rim, it is expected that a regional development zone based on the idea of a “borderless world” will be established. Moreover science and technology as well as capital are also expected to be invested in that 3one. That is to say, the regional development Bone needs Japanese and Korea capital, science and technology.
