  • The experiment was carried out to determine the concentrations of total calcium and inorganic phosphorus of thirty rera obtained from pregnant Holitein cows, six sera from normal non-pregnant cows with one month after delivery, six sera from cows with ovarian cyst and six sera from heifer of sixteen months old. The changes of total calcium and inorganic phosphorus were observed on the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and l0th month of gestation. The results obtained in this work were summarized as follows: 1. The mean values of total serum calcium obtained from the pregnant group were $9.59{\pm}0.34mg/100ml$, from the non-pregnant group $10.23{\pm}0.47mg/100ml$, from the infertility grou $10.37{\pm}0.27mg/100ml$, and from the heifer group $10.07{\pm}0.20mg/ml$. The change of total serum calcium values in the pregnant group revealed the tendency of decrease as gestation progresses and the lowest value appeared on the sixth month. The mean value of total serum calcium in the pregnant group was lower than those of the other groups, but the differences were not statistically significant. 2. The mean values of serum inorganic phosphorus obtained from the pregnant group were $5.82{\pm}0.31mg/100ml$, from the non-pregnant group $5.92{\pm}0.44mg/100ml$, from the infertility group $5.80{\pm}0.49mg/100ml$, and from the heifer group $5.10{\pm}0.32mg/100ml$. The change during pregnancy showed a slight fall and the lowest value appeared on the sixth month. The differences of serum inorganic phosphorus values between the pregnant group and the other adult groups were not significant, but these adult groups showed a significantly higher value than that of heifer group (p<0.05).

  • Objectives: This study evaluated the solubility, dimensional alteration, pH, electrical conductivity, and radiopacity of root perforation sealer materials. Materials and Methods: For the pH test, the samples were immersed in distilled water for different periods of time. Then, the samples were retained in plastic recipients, and the electrical conductivity of the solution was measured. The solubility, dimensional alteration, and radiopacity properties were evaluated according to Specification No. 57 of the American National Standards Institute/American Dental Association (ANSI/ADA). Statistical analyses were carried out using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's test at a significance level of 5%. When the sample distribution was not normal, a nonparametric ANOVA was performed with a Kruskal-Wallis test (${\alpha}$ = 0.05). Results: The results showed that white structural Portland cement (PC) had the highest solubility, while mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA)-based cements, ProRoot MTA (Dentsply-Tulsa Dental) and MTA BIO ($\hat{A}$ngelus Ind. Prod.), had the lowest values. MTA BIO showed the lowest dimensional alteration values and white PC presented the highest values. No differences among the tested materials were observed in the the pH and electrical conductivity analyses. Only the MTA-based cements met the ANSI/ADA recommendations regarding radiopacity, overcoming the three steps of the aluminum step wedge. Conclusions: On the basis of these results, we concluded that the values of solubility and dimensional alteration of the materials were in accordance with the ANSI/ADA specifications. PCs did not fulfill the ANSI/ADA requirements regarding radiopacity. No differences were observed among the materials with respect to the pH and electrical conductivity analyses.

  • The compressive behavior of special-shaped concrete filled tube (CFT) mega column coupled with multiple cavities is studied by testing six columns subjected to cyclically uniaxial compressive load. The six columns include three pentagonal specimens and three hexagonal specimens. The influence of cavity construction, arrangement of reinforcement, concrete strength on failure feature, bearing capacity, stiffness, and residual deformation is examined. Experimental results show that cavity construction and reinforcements make it possible to form a combined confinement effect to in-filled concrete, and the two groups of special-shaped CFT columns show good elastic-plastic compressive behavior. As there is no axial bearing capacity calculation method currently available in any Code of practice for special-shaped CFT columns, values predicted by normal CFT column formulas in GB50936, CECS254, ACI-318, EC4, AISCI-LRFD, CECS159, and AIJ are compared with tested values. The calculated values are lower than the tested values for most columns, thus the predicted bearing capacity is safe. A reasonable calculation method by dividing concrete into active and inactive confined regions is proposed. And high accuracy shows in estimating special-shaped CFT columns either coupled with multiple cavities or not. In addition, a finite element method (FEM) analysis is conducted and the simulated results match the test well.

  • Background: This study is a quantitative evaluation of the influence of the mentolabial angle on perceived attractiveness and threshold values of desire for surgery. Methods: The mentolabial angle of an idealized silhouette male Caucasian profile image was altered incrementally between $84^{\circ}$ and $162^{\circ}$. Images were rated on a Likert scale by pretreatment orthognathic patients (n = 75), lay people (n = 75) and clinicians (n = 35). Results: A mentolabial angle of approximately $107^{\circ}$ to $118^{\circ}$ was deemed the most attractive, with a range of up to $140^{\circ}$ deemed acceptable. Angles above or below this range were perceived as unattractive, and anything outside the range of below $98^{\circ}$ or above $162^{\circ}$ was deemed very unattractive. A deep mentolabial angle ($84^{\circ}$) or an almost flat angle ($162^{\circ}$) was deemed the least attractive. In terms of threshold values of desire for surgery, for all groups, a threshold value of ${\geq}162^{\circ}$ and ${\leq}84^{\circ}$ indicated a preference for surgery, although clinicians were least likely to suggest surgery. The clinician group was the most consistent, and for many of the images, there was some variation in agreement between clinicians and lay people as to whether surgery is required. There was even more variability in the assessments for the patient group. Conclusions: It is recommended that in orthognathic and genioplasty planning, the range of normal variability of the mentolabial angle, in terms of observer acceptance, is taken into account as well as threshold values of desire for surgery. The importance of using patients as observers in attractiveness research is stressed.

  • Fire monitoring system detects a fire based on the values of various sensors, such as smoke, CO, temperature, or change of temperature. It detects a fire by comparing sensed values with predefined threshold values for each sensor. However, to prevent a fire it is required to predict a situation which has a possibility of fire occurrence. In this work, we propose a fire recognition system using a fuzzy inference method. The rule base is constructed as a combination of fuzzy variables derived from various sensed values. In addition, in order to solve generalization and formalization problems of rule base construction from expert knowledge, we analyze features of fire patterns. The constructed rule base results in an improvement of the recognition accuracy. A fire possibility is predicted as one of 3 levels(normal, caution, danger). The training data of each level is converted to fuzzy rules by FCM(fuzzy C-means clustering) and those rules are used in the inference engine. The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated by using forest fire data from the UCI repository.

  • One of main aspects of time series analysis is to forecast future values of series based on values up to a given time. The prediction interval for future values is usually obtained under the normality assumption. When the assumption is seriously violated, a transformation of data may permit the valid use of the normal theory. We investigate the prediction problem for future values in the original scale when transformations are applied in ARMA models. In this paper, we introduce the methodology based on Yeo-Johnson transformation to solve the problem of skewed data whose modelling is relatively difficult in the analysis of time series. Simulation studies show that the coverage probabilities of proposed intervals are closer to the nominal level than those of usual intervals.

  • This study was focused on classifying lower-body trunk and revealing the lower-body characteristics of the Chinese males in their 20s through 40s for their slacks pattern design. Compared with the 20s, the subjects in their 30s and 40s had small vertical and big horizontal sizes and showed a somatotype difference through a horizontal change. According to the size of absolute values, the lower body of Chinese men was "tall and normal trunk"(43.9%). Based on the shape of index values, Type 3(40.3%) was representative with average hip-surface length, waist-hip width difference and long upper hip. While Type 3 was seen a lot in the 20s(51.8%), 30s and 40s were each represented by Type 2(47.1%) with the smallest waist-hip width difference, average upper hip, and long hip-surface length and Type 1(45.9%) with small waist-hip width difference, average upper hip, and short hip-surface length. As this study is confined to Ningbo City of Zhejiang Province and has a small number of subjects, the generalization of the findings should be more serious. Further research will be centered on the development of slacks patterns in consideration of the body type changes.

  • Oxygen and hydrogen isotopic compositions of the Jurassic peraluminous Hwacheon granite were measured, and compared with those of other Jurassic peraluminous Daebo granite in Korea. $\delta$$\^$18/O values for quartz and feldspar of the Hwacheon granite range from 8.2 to 10.6 and 5.8 to 9.0$\textperthousand$, respectively. Whole rock $\delta$$\^$18/O values for banded biotite gneiss country rocks surrounding the Hwacheon granites range from 8.1 to 9.4$\textperthousand$. Whole rock and biotite $\delta$D Values for Hwacheon granite range from -84 to -113 and -107 to -113$\textperthousand$, respectively. Whole rock $\delta$D values for banded biotite gneiss country rocks range from -76 to -100$\textperthousand$. Both $\delta$$\^$18/O and $\delta$D values of the Hwacheon granite are characterized by low values compared to the 'normal' values for the fresh peraluminous granitic rocks. Low $\delta$$\^$18/O values of the Hwacheon granite resulted from fluid-rock interaction for a long period. Isotopic modelling result renders that a relatively low-$\delta$$\^$18/O fluid below -1$\textperthousand$ was involved in subsolidus isotopic exchange under a relatively high fluid/rock ratio (<-6). The fluid of meteoric origin has experienced a modification of oxygen isotopic composition as a result of fluid-rock interaction with the Hwacheon granite and surrounding metapelitic country rocks.

  • Blood chemical values and sex steroid hormone concentration of repeat breeder and reproductive disorder in Hanwoo, which were bred in Chunchon areas, were examine to establish the basic physiological maker. The concentrations of albumin, blood urea nitrogen(BUN), calcium(Ca), cholesterol, creatinine, glucose, phosphorous, total protein and triglycerides in repeat breeder and reproductive disorder were 3.28$\pm$0.05 and 3.27$\pm$0.04 g/㎗, 11.07$\pm$0.61 and 12.69$\pm$0.88 mg/㎗, 9.98$\pm$0.10 and 9.56$\pm$0.11mg/㎗, 105.75$\pm$3.57 and 126.78$\pm$5.66mg/㎗, 1.62$\pm$0.05 and 1.65$\pm$0.09 mg/㎗, 67.46$\pm$9.07 and 76.97$\pm$3.76mg/㎗, 6.13$\pm$0.36 and 6.11$\pm$0.26mg/㎗, 5.82$\pm$0.08 and 6.18$\pm$0.08 g/㎗ , 12.82$\pm$1.46 and 15.19$\pm$1.61mg/㎗, respectively. Among the blood chemical values, Ca, cholesterol and inorganic phosphorous levels in repeat breeder and reproductive disorder were slightly higher than those in normal cows. The progesterone levels of pregnancy(0.18~6.56 ng/$m\ell$) and non-pregnancy(0.15~5.46ng/$m\ell$) cows at estrus cycle were showed similar trends from 0 day to 18 days. Those of pregnancy cows were increased gradually from 18 days to 180 days(5.90~7.51 ng/$m\ell$), while those of non-pregnancy cows were dramatically drop at 21 days (0.18$\pm$0.03mg/㎗). The concentrations of estrogen and progesterone in repeat breeder and reproductive disorder were 57.42$\pm$5.03, 56.76$\pm$8.73 pg/$m\ell$ and 6.26$\pm$0.83, 9.41$\pm$1.85 ng/$m\ell$ . respectively. These results indicate that blood chemical values in repeat breeder and reproductive disorder were not greatly difference in normal cows except for Ca, cholesterol, BUN and inorganic phosphorous. Since the progesterone levels in repeat breeder and reproductive disorder was maintained to the luteal phase levels of normal cows, it may cause of failing of conception and next estrus cycle.
