  • In the transverse flux linear induction motor(TFLIM) with the general secondary composed of conductor and back-yoke, there exists a magnetized force into the normal direction or the air-gap direction of the thrust motion as well as the thrust force. Therefore, the various methodologies have been tried to use the normal force by the two independent control variables of the multi-phase input. But, as the force depends inevitably and strongly on the thrust force, it is essential to decouple both forces for two control index. In this paper, we suggest a novel approach capable of compensating the couple between both forces and the control index by using the DC-biased multi-phase input, and then realizing the independent control of TFLIM.

Automated Link Tracing for Classification of Malicious Websites in Malware Distribution Networks

  • Malicious code distribution on the Internet is one of the most critical Internet-based threats and distribution technology has evolved to bypass detection systems. As a new defense against the detection bypass technology of malicious attackers, this study proposes the automated tracing of malicious websites in a malware distribution network (MDN). The proposed technology extracts automated links and classifies websites into malicious and normal websites based on link structure. Even if attackers use a new distribution technology, website classification is possible as long as the connections are established through automated links. The use of a real web-browser and proxy server enables an adequate response to attackers' perception of analysis environments and evasion technology and prevents analysis environments from being infected by malicious code. The validity and accuracy of the proposed method for classification are verified using 20,000 links, 10,000 each from normal and malicious websites.

  • The major hurdle of conventional chemotherapeutics is the toxicity to normal tissue. The possible therapeutic advantage(s) of nano-particle encapsulated chemotherapeutics (nano-molecules) may be the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect. Nano-molecules with increase volume may incorporated into the tumor tissue selectively, which is composed of rather sparse structure.   • This paper proposes some diagnostics procedures for the skew-t linear regression model with censored response. The skew-t distribution is an attractive family of asymmetrical heavy-tailed densities that includes the normal, skew-normal and student's-t distributions as special cases. Inspired by the power and wide applicability of the EM-type algorithm, local and global influence analysis, based on the conditional expectation of the complete-data log-likelihood function are developed, following Zhu and Lee's approach. For the local influence analysis, four specific perturbation schemes are discussed. Two real data sets, from education and economics, which are right and left censoring, respectively, are analyzed in order to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed methodology.

  • This paper conducts a thorough economic evaluation of integrating nanoparticles into concrete structures within the construction industry, aiming to elevate the material properties of concrete. Employing the Halpin-Tsai micromechanics theory for deriving the effective material properties of the nanocomposite concrete structure, the research investigates the nuanced impact of nanoparticles on various mechanical properties, including the modulus of elasticity, compressive strength, and their indirect effects on the percentage of reinforcement. Implementing the Euler theory to formulate the governing equation based on Hamilton's principle, the study delves into the pricing dynamics of nanoparticles and their influence on the overall cost structure of concrete structures. Notably, the findings reveal that a measured increase in the volume percentage of nanoparticles, up to 1%, results in a remarkable 78% improvement in elastic modulus and a substantial 142% reduction in armature percentage. Remarkably, from an economic perspective, the incremental cost associated with the integration of nanoparticles is relatively modest (around $1 per ton of concrete), considering the substantial enhancements in mechanical properties achieved.

Cost-Effective APF/UPS System with Seamless Mode Transfer

  • In this paper, the development of a cost-effective active power filter/uninterruptible power supply (APF/UPS) system with seamless mode transfer is described. The proposed scheme employs a pulse-width-modulation (PWM) voltage-source inverter and has two operational modes. First, when the source voltage is normal, the system operates as an APF, which compensates for the harmonics and power factor while boosting the DC-link voltage to be ready for the disturbance, without an additional DC charging circuit. A simple algorithm to detect the load current harmonics is also proposed. Second, when the source voltage is out of the normal range (owing to sag, swell, or outage), it operates a UPS, which controls the output voltage constantly by discharging the DC-link capacitor. Furthermore, a seamless transfer method for the single-phase inverter between the APF mode and the UPS mode is also proposed, in which an IGBT switch with diodes is used as a static bypass switch. Dissimilar to a conventional SCR switch, the IGBT switch can implement a seamless mode transfer. During the UPS operation, when the source voltage returns to the normal range, the system operates as an APF. The proposed system has good transient and steady-state response characteristics. The APF, charging circuit, and UPS systems are implemented in one inverter system. Finally, the validity of the proposed scheme is investigated with simulated and experimental results for a prototype APF/UPS system rated at 3 kVA.

  • Signature-based safeguards (SBS) is being developed to assist tradition nuclear material accountancy methods in tracking material in pyroprocessing facilities. SBS involves identifying off-normal scenarios that would result in improper movement of material in a pyroprocessing facilities and determining associated sensor response signatures. SBS investigations are undertaken in the computational space utilizing an electrochemical transport code known as enhanced REFIN with anodic dissolution (ERAD) to calculate the affect of off-normal conditions in the electrorefiner (ER) on material movement. Work is undertaken to experimentally validate the predictions and assumptions made by ERAD for off-normal occurrences. These experiments were undertaken on a benchtop scale and involved operating an electrochemical cell at 10 separate current densities for constant current operations to deposit U and Gd at a W cathode. These experiments were then modeled using ERAD to compare calculated predictions versus analytical experimental results it was found. It was discovered both the experimental and calculated results reflect a trend of increased codeposition of U and Gd with increasing current density. ERAD was thus demonstrated to be useful for predicting trends from anomalous operation but will require further optimization to be utilized as a quantitative design tool.

  • The purpose of this study was to Investigate the response of fasting serum glucose and basal insulin to dietary omega-3 fatty fish in normal subjects. Nineteen healthy female volunteer subjects were divided into two groups, depending on fish preference test. Low ap3 fatty acid group for 7 days received a experimental Inlet containing mackeral fish 100g. Calorie intake was 1780 kcal /day. The average 4ally u-3 fatty acid consumption from fish was 3.87g /day (1.03g EPA, 2.849 DHA) . High n-3 fatty acid group was given 7.74g maine u-3 fatty acid (200g mackeral fish) consisting of 2.06g EP45.68g DHA. Calorie intake was 1815 local /day Fasting blond serum glucose, insulin levels were measured at baseline, 7days after experimental diet. In the beginning the levels of fasting serum glucose, basal insulin were not different between both groups. There were no significant changes in fasting serum glucose, insulin levels by experimental diets. These data indicate that marine ar3 fatty acid consumption have no deleterious effect on glycemic control in normal subjects.

Mycelial growth of Lentinula edodes in response to different mixing time, pressure intensity, and substrate porosity

  • Biological efficiency (BE), the ratio of fresh mushrooms harvested per dry substrate weight, expressed as the percentage of Lentinula edodes, also known as shiitake, was determined using the 'Sanjo 701' strain stored in the Department of Mushroom at the Korea National College of Agriculture and Fisheries. The mycelia were grown in glass columns with varying levels of moisture content and varying mixing periods of 0.5, 1, 2, and 3 hours. The substrate was sterilized using a steam pressure autoclave sterilizer at normal and high pressure to avoid contamination. The results showed that mycelial growth (126 mm/15 days) was optimized at 55% moisture content. The best mycelial growth of 117 mm/15 days was obtained with 2 hours of mixing time. Normal pressure sterilization yielded better results with mycelial growth of 96 mm/15 days at $100^{\circ}C$ compared to 88 mm /15 days with sterilization at $121^{\circ}C$. Mycelial density was higher, i.e. 3(+++), with normal pressure sterilization compared to 2(++) with high pressure sterilization. Furthermore, sawdust mixed with 5% woodchips increased the substrate porosity and yielded higher mycelial growth. Thus, we demonstrated that the optimum harvest or potential increased yield of shiitake can be obtained by modulating moisture content, mixing time, and substrate porosity.

Differentially Expressed Genes under Cold Acclimation in Physcomitrella patens

  • Cold acclimation improves freezing tolerance in plants. In higher plants, many advances have been made toward identifying the signaling and regulatory pathways that direct the low-temperature stress response; however, similar insights have not yet been gained for simple nonvascular plants, such as bryophytes. To elucidate the pathways that regulate cold acclimation in bryophytes, we used two PCR-based differential screening techniques, cDNA amplified fragment length polymorphism (cDNA-AFLP) and suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH), to isolate 510 ESTs that are differentially expressed during cold acclimation in Physcomitrella patens. We used realtime RT-PCR to further analyze expression of 29 of these transcripts during cold acclimation. Our results show that cold acclimation in the bryophyte Physcomitrella patens is not only largely similar to higher plants but also displays distinct differences, suggests significant alteration during the evolution of land plants.
