  • Finite-element methods are used to study non-adhesive, frictionless rough contact of elastic and plastic solids. Roughness on spherical surfaces is realized by self-affine fractal. True contact area between the rough surfaces and flat rigid surfaces increases with power law under external normal loads. The power exponent is sensitive to surface roughness as well as the curvature of spherical geometry. Surface contact pressures are analyzed and compared for the elastic and plastic solids. Distributions of local contact pressure are shown dependent on the surface roughness and the yield stress of plastic solids.

  • The behaviour of buried rigid pipe under embankment is analysed by a linear finite element program to study the influence of variation of the geometry of soil-conduit pipe system and elastic modulus of soil on the pipe response. The geometry of the system considered includes the thickness of pipe, the height of embankment, and the width arid the depth of trench. The normal contact pressure distribution around the pipe and the vertical load on the pipe are modelled by a multiple linear regression. And the vertical load on the pipe computed by Marston-Spangles Theory Is generally larger than that by finite element analysis. The settiement ratio in Marston-Spangler Theory is found to be variable for various for various of all factors mentioned above.

  • A three-dimensional finite element model of a 20-pin plastic dual-in-line package(PDIP) plugged into a PCE has been developed by using the finite element code ANSYS. The model has been used for thermal characterization of the package during its normal operation under natural convection cooling. Temperature distributions in the package and PCB are obtained from numerical analysis and compared with experimentally measured data. Various cases are assumed and analyzed to study the effects of package and PCB materials on thermal characteristics of PDIP with and without aluminum heatspreader. Thermal dissipation capability of PDIP is greatly increased due to copper die pad/lead frame and heatspreader. However, thermally induced stresses in the package and fatigue life of chip are improved for PDIP with Alloy 42 die pad/lead frame and no heatspreader. It is also found that the role of PCB on thermal characteristics of PDIP is very imporatant.

  • In this paper a simple mesh refinement technique for finite element method is proposed using error estimation only on the material boundaries. The boundary errors are estimated by the continuity conditions of normal B field and tangential B field. From the error estimation fine meshes are accomplished on the boundary and propagate to the near region by Delanunay mesh tessellation. This adaptive mesh refinement technique is applied to the force calculation of magnetic clutch composed by several material regions and makes good convergence.

  • The purpose of this paper is to find minimum surface shape of pneumatic structure using the finite element method. The pneumatic membrane structure is a kind of large deformation problem and very flexible composite material, which mean geomatric nonlinearity. It is not to resist for compression and resultant moment. As the displacement due to internal pressure is getting bigger, it should be considered the direction of forces. It becomes non-linear problem with the non-conservative force. The follower-force depends on the deformation and the direction of force is normal to each element. The solution process is obtained the new stiffness matrix (load correction matrix) depending on deformation through each iterated step. However, the stiffness matrix have not the symmetry and influence on the time of covergence. So in this paper Newton-Rhapson method for solving non-linear problem and for using symmetic matrix, the load direction is changed in each iterated step using the transformation matrix.

  • The objective of this study is to develop analytical techniques of polymer impregnated concrete flexural members for its proper applications. crystalline methylmethacrylate(MMA) is chosen as a monomer of polymer impregnants, On the basis of members. fracture toughness, fracture energy , critical crack width, and tension softening relations near crack tip are formulated in terms of member depth, initial notch length and the flexural strength of normal concrete. The structural analysis rocedure and the finite element computer program developed in the study are applicable to evaluate elastic behavior, ultimate strength, and tension softening behavior of MMA type PIC structural members subject to various loading conditions. It is concluded that the developed structural analysis procedure and the finite element computer program are applicable to analysis and design of in-situ and precast PIC structural members.

  • The wing component model for flutter analysis consisting of stiffness, mass, and aerodynamic model has been constructed based on the full airframe finite element model for 4-seat canard-type small aircraft. A study on wing flutter characteristics has been investigated based on the wing component model constructed using PK method in MSC/NASTRAN for flutter analysis. In addition, wing flutter mechanism for the aircraft under consideration has been analyzed based on the results of normal mode and flutter analysis.

  • Wave forces on fixed two-dimensional objects submerged in water of finite depth were analysed by Boundary Element Method using linear elements. It is assumed that the wave forces may be described by linear theory and that incident wave direction is normal to the objects of infinite length. In this paper, wave forces on a bottom-seated half cross section pipeline, a circular pipeline, a submerged pipeline and submerged breakwater of arbitrary shape were studied. The accuracy of the computational scheme is investigated by comparing the numerical results with the existing laboratory results and analytical solutions of other researchers.

  • In this paper, we study the basic theory of the category of graded w-Noetherian modules over a graded ring R. Some elementary concepts, such as w-envelope of graded modules, graded w-Noetherian rings and so on, are introduced. It is shown that: (1) A graded domain R is graded w-Noetherian if and only if Rg𝔪 is a graded Noetherian ring for any gr-maximal w-ideal m of R, and there are only finite numbers of gr-maximal w-ideals including a for any nonzero homogeneous element a. (2) Let R be a strongly graded ring. Then R is a graded w-Noetherian ring if and only if Re is a w-Noetherian ring. (3) Let R be a graded w-Noetherian domain and let a ∈ R be a homogeneous element. Suppose 𝖕 is a minimal graded prime ideal of (a). Then the graded height of the graded prime ideal 𝖕 is at most 1.

  • This paper deals with the characteristics analysis & optimum design of Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) with anisotropy rotor using a coupled Finite Element Method (FEM) & Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The focus of this paper is the characteristics analysis & optimum design relative to the output power on the basis of rotor materials of a SynRM. The coupled Finite Elements Analysis (FEA) & Preisach model have been used to evaluate nonlinear solutions. Comparisons are given with characteristics of normal synchronous reluctance motor and those of anisotropy rotor SynRM (ANISO-SynRM), respectively. The feasibility of using RSM with FEM in practical engineering problem is investigated with computational examples and comparison between the fitted response and the results obtained from an analytical solution according to the design variables of rotor in anisotropy rotor SynRM.
