  • A power amplifier is one of important factors for basestation's efficiency and the researches for efficency enhancement focus Doherty amplifier structure with GaN power devices in these days. A memory effect of Doherty amplifier affect operation characteristics for linearity and efficiency. This paper reports on electrothermal nonlinearity modeling and compensation for GaN Doherty amplifier's distortion. Also this paper reports on the dynamic expression of the instantaneous junction temperature as a function of the instantaneous dissipated power. We design distortion model for GaN Doherty amplifier and predistortion compensator for electrothermal memory effect from the proposed behavior model parameters. The simulations was evaluated by ADS Tools and GaN Doherty amplifier with 37dBm. The GaN Doherty amplifier with compensator enhanced about 16dB than without electrothemal memory effect compensator in 2-tone output spectrum.

  • Long-haul transmission of multiple transmission signals, such as wavelength division multiplexed (WDM), has became possible, because the signal distortion caused by chromatic dispersion and nonlinearity can be compensated by applying dispersion management, optical phase conjugation and combination of the two methods into the transmission link. The biggest obstacle to applying optical phase conjugation to an optical link is that the optical phase conjugator (OPC) must be located only in the middle of the entire transmission line. This paper shows that the location constraints of OPC can be overcome through the application of an asymmetric dispersion map. The location of the OPC considered in this paper exists between the 8th and 9th fiber spans out of a total of 48 fiber spans. Additionally, the dispersion map has an asymmetric cumulative dispersion profile with respect to the OPC. As a result of the simulation, it was confirmed that the distortion compensation effect of the WDM channel can be increased compared to the link to which the traditional dispersion map is applied, depending on the overall shape of the cumulative dispersion profile distribution of the proposed asymmetric dispersion map and the selection of the profile slope.

  • Although infrared focal plane array (IRFPA) detectors have been commonly used, non-uniformity correction (NUC) remains an important problem in the infrared imaging realm. Non-uniformity severely degrades image quality and affects radiometric accuracy in infrared imaging applications. Residual non-uniformity (RNU) significantly affects the detection range of infrared surveillance and reconnaissance systems. More effort should be exerted to improve IRFPA uniformity. A novel NUC method that considers the surrounding temperature variation compensation is proposed based on the binary nonlinear non-uniformity theory model. The implementing procedure is described in detail. This approach simultaneously corrects response nonlinearity and compensates for the influence of surrounding temperature shift. Both qualitative evaluation and quantitative test comparison are performed among several correction technologies. The experimental result shows that the residual non-uniformity, which is corrected by the proposed method, is steady at approximately 0.02 percentage points within the target temperature range of 283 K to 373 K. Real-time imaging shows that the proposed method improves image quality better than traditional techniques.

  • The performance of the precision micro-positioning 4-dof stage is presented. The compact design utilizes the monolithic mechanism to achieve the translation in the Z axis and rotation in the $\theta$ z, $\theta$ x and $\theta$ y axes with high stiffness and high damping. Hysteresis, nonlinearity, and drift of the piezoelectric effects are improved by incorporating the sensors in a feedback control. Experiments demonstrate that the micro-positioning stage is capable of 2nm resolution over the travel range of 25$\mu\textrm$ m in the Z axis, 0.0l7 $\mu\textrm$ rad resolution over the 170$\mu\textrm$ rad in the $\theta$ z and 0.011 $\mu\textrm$ rad resolution over the $\mu\textrm$ rad in the $\theta$ x and $\theta$ y axes. The cross-axis interferences among the axes are at a noise range. This stage is available for positioning error compensation of the XY stage with large stroke.

  • This paper presents a new attitude stabilization and control of an unmanned helicopter based on neural network compensation. A systematic derivation on the dynamics of an unmanned small-scale helicopter is performed. Combined rotor-fuselage-tail dynamics is derived in body-fixed reference frame with its origin at the C.G. of the helicopter. And the resulting nonlinear equation of motion consists of 6-DOF air vehicle dynamics as well as the rotor flapping and engine torque equations. A simulation model was modified using the existing simulator for an unmanned helicopter dynamic model, which reflects the unmanned test helicopter(CNUHELI). The dynamic response of the refined model was compared with the flight test data. It can be shown that a good coincidence was accomplished between the real unmanned helicopter system and the mathematical model. This dynamic model was linearized for classical controller design using small perturbation method. A Neuro-PD control system was designed for both longitudinal and lateral flight modes, and the results were compared with the PD-only control response. Simulation results show that the proposed Neuro-PD control system demonstrates better performance.

  • This paper presents control designs using neural networks (NN) for a XY positioning table. The proposed neuro-controller is composed of an outer PD tracking loop for stabilization of the fast flexible-mode dynamics and an NN inner loop used to compensate for the system nonlinearities. A tuning algorithm is given for the NN weights, so that the NN compensation scheme becomes adaptive, guaranteeing small tracking errors and bounded weight estimates. Formal nonlinear stability proofs are given to show that the tracking error is small. The proposed neuro-controller is implemented and tested on an IBM PC-based XY positioning table, and is applicable to many precision XY tables. The algorithm, simulation, and experimental results are described. The experimental results are shown to be superior to those of conventional control.

  • This paper proposes an optical transmission link design method based on an optimum compensation scheme using dispersion compensating fiber (DCF), so that high-speed long-distance optical transmission would be possible over the conventional standard single mode fiber (SMF) link. The proposed design method provides the maximized transmission distances according to the signal speeds, where the amplifier spacing and repeater spacing are optimized wit respect to self-phase modulation(SPM) due to fiber nonlinearity and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noises caused by optical amplifies. It is also shown that there exists an optimum input signal power range balancing the effects of ASE noise and SPM for the given amplifier spacing and repeater spacing.

  • This paper presents a new data predistortion technique with memory to compensate for the nonlinearities of high-power amplifiers (HPA`s) in digital radio systems employing QAM signal formats. In contrast with the conventional data predistortion technique which is designed to reduce nonlinearity of memoryless HPA`s, the proposed technique in this paper compensates not only for nonlinear warping of the signal constellation but also for clustering of the signal points caused by transmitter pulse sharping filter with memory. A practical implementation method which can reduce the size of memory at the predistortion stage is described by utilizing symmetry of QAM constellation format and Modulo-4 operation.

  • In this paper, the performance for the non-linear satellite channel including the characteristics of group delay and gain ripple of transponder is analyzed with multi-level QAM-OFDM schemes. Comparing the BER performances between general OFDM and CI(Carrier Interferometry)-OFDM for various QAM schemes, the degree of performance improvement is presented in AWGN environments for specified nonlinear characteristics. The simulations are performed with the 36MHz bandwidth of transponder channel and 120Mbps transmission rate for QPSK, 8QAM, 16QAM, 32QAM, 64QAM schemes between normal and worst case condition. It is shown that the improvement measure by the CI-OFDM for the group delay of channel and nonlinear characteristic of HPA outperforms that for the gain ripple in the case of higher level QAM scheme in normal condition. And the simulation results show that the additional techniques like the channel coding and compensation scheme against the nonlinear characteristic are required for 32QAM and higher level QAM in worst case condition.

  • This paper is concerned with the development of a micro tensile testing machine for optically functional materials such as single or poly crystalline silicon and nickel film. This micro tensile tester has been developed for testing various types of materials and dimensions. PZT type actuation is utilized for precise displacement control. The specifications of the PZT actuated micro tensile testers developed are as follows: the volumetric size of the tester is desktop type of 710mm' 200mm' 270mm; the maximum load capacity and the load resolution in this system are IKgf and 0.0152mgf respectively and; the full stroke and the stoke resolution of the PZT actuator are $1000{\mu}m$ and 10nm respectively. Special automatic specimen installing and setting equipment is applied in order to prevent unexpected deformation and misalignment of specimens during handling of specimens for testing. Nonlinearity of the PZT actuator is compensated to linear control input by an inverse compensation method that is proposed in this paper. The strain data is obtained by ISDG method that uses the laser interference phenomenon. To test the reliance of this micro tensile testing machine, a $200{\mu}m$ thickness nickel thin film and SCS (Single Crystalline Silicon) material that is made with the MEMS fabrication process are used.
