  • Recently the repair of damaged reinforced concrete members by the external bonding of fiber-reinforced polymer laminates has received considerable attention. This paper investigates the flexural behaviors of beam strengthened with Aramid fiber sheets(AFS), and attempts to evaluate the flexural strength of such RC beams by the use of nonlinear flexural analysis because the application of the KCI strength method to strengthened beam is somewhat limited and the failure strain of AFS is overestimated in particular cases.

  • In industry pneumatic control system has become a important means to obtain automation because of its simplicity, fast speed and low cost. However Due to of the compressibility of air and damping friction between moving parts, it is difficult to achieve high speed driving, accurate positioning and stopping without overshoot in one pneumatic control system. This paper describes the dynamic behaviors of pneumatic linear actuator. The results will be very useful in the prediction of actuated dynamics and for the manufacturers to improve the techniques in their redesign and get better performance. Also, the experimental data is very important for the dynamic simulation and theoretical analysis.

  • This paper presents a convergence analysis of the stocastic gradient adaptive algorithm based on the least mean absolute third (LMAT) error criteriohn. Under the assumption that the signals involved are zero-mean, wide-sense sateionaryand gaussian, a set of nonlinear difference equations that characterizes the mean and mean-squared behavior of the algorithm is derived. Computer simulation resutls show fairly good agreements between the theoetical and empirical behaviors of the algorithm.

  • In this paper, a nonlinear finite-element method was employed to analyze mechanical behaviors of the balloon-expandable stent. Beyond safety considerations, this type of analysis provides mechanical properties that are often difficult to obtain by experiments. Mechanical properties of the stent expansion pressure, radial recoil, longitudinal recoil and foreshortening were studied using commercial FEM code, ANSYS. As a result, the pressure necessary to expand the stent up to a diameter of 3mm was 7.6atm, longitudinal recoil, radial recoil and foreshortening were -0.388%, 2.87% and 4.07% respectively. In conclusion, a finite element model used in this study could help in designing new stents or analyzing actual stents.

  • Two roll straightener showed the remarkable improvement in straightness betterment of the bar compared with other types of straightener. So, in this study we designed a two-cross straightener curvature for the straightness improvement of a bar and contact sections with respect to the variation of the gap between two-cross roll using nonlinear contact analysis. The Displacement in terms of a intersection angle between roll and bar was predicted on with the effect of a straightness and plastic deformation behaviors of the bar according to the roll drive of a two cross-roll straightener.

  • Dynamic behaviors are analyzed for an automatic ball balancer with double races which is a device to reduce eccentricity of rotors. Equations of motion are derived by using the polar coordinate sys tem instead of the rectangular coordinate system which is used in other previous researches. To analyze the stability around equilibrium positions, the perturbation method is used. On the other hand, the time responses are computed from the nonlinear equations of motion by using a time integration method.

  • In order to reduce the deformation and delay the local buckling of concrete filled steel tube (CFST) columns, strengthening the structures with stiffeners is an effective method. In this paper, a new stiffening method with inclined stiffeners was used to investigate the behaviors of short CFST columns under axial compression. Besides, a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element (FE) model was applied to simulate the mechanical performances, including the total deformation, local buckling, and stress-strain relationship. Revised constitutive models of stiffened steel tube and confined concrete are proposed. A good agreement was achieved between the test and FE results. Furthermore, the calculated results of load capacity by using a simplified method also show a good correlation with experimental data.

  • The volume control method which utilize a pressure node added into a finite shell element can overcome the drawbacks of conventional load control method and displacement control method. In this study, an improved volume control method is introduced for effective analysis of path-dependant behaviors of RC structures subjected to cyclic loading. RC shell structures including RC hollow columns are anlayized by discretizing the structures with layered shell elements and by applying in-plane two dimensional constitutive equations for concrete layers and reinforcement layers of the shell elements. The so-called path dependant volume control method is verified by comparing analysis results with other data including experimental results.

  • This paper deals the shaking table tests with 1/100 scaled model followed by Scott & Iai(1989)'s similitude law for OO dam main desging section to understand nonlinear behavior characteristics of concrete dam body by earthquake wave. As earthquake wave, Hachinohe and Elcentro waves were used and acceleration and displacements are measured to analyze behaviors of dam body. For ground maximum acceleration range ($0.3^{\sim}0.9g$), the results showed linear behavior regardless of ground maximum acceleration and secured safety of structure. To analyze the behavior of dam after tension cracking, 3cm-notch was placed at the critical section of over-flowing section. As results of applying Hachinohe wave(0.8g), Even though tension cracks were formed at over-flowing section by Hachinohe wave(0.8g), it showed that the dam is stable for supporting upper stream part of water tank of dam.
