In this paper, we suggest a variable structure controller using the time-varying nonlinear sliding surface instead of the fixed sliding surface, which has been the robustness against parameter variations and extraneous disturbance during the reaching phase. As appling TS fuzzy algorithm to the regulation of the nonlinear sliding surface, the reaching time of the system trajectory is faster than the fixed method . This proposed scheme has better performance than the conventional method in reaching time parameter variation and extraneous disturbance. To demonstrate its performance, the proposed control algorithm is applied to a rotational inverted pendulum.
We proposed a decoupled adaptive fuzzy sliding-mode control scheme for a class of fourth-order nonlinear systems. The system is decoupled into two second-order systems such that each subsystem has a separate control target expressed in terms of sliding surface. For these sliding surfaces, we define main and sub target conditions. and, we made intermediate variables which are interconnected both surface conditions from the sub target sliding surface. Then, Two sets of fuzzy rule bases are utilized to represent the equivalent control input with unknown system functions of the main target sliding surface including intermediate variables. The membership functions of the THEN-part, which is used to construct a suitable equivalent control of sliding-mode control, are changed according to the adaptive law. With such a design scheme, we not only maintain the distribution of membership functions over state space but also reduce the computing time considerably. We apply the decoupled adaptive sliding-mode control to a nonlinear Cart-Pole system and confirms the validity of the proposed approach.

In this paper, a nonlinear controller based on sliding mode control is applied to a two -wheeled Welding Mobile Robot (WMR) to track a smooth-curved welding path at a constant velocity of the welding point. T he mobile robot is considered in terms of dynamics model in Cartesian coordinates and its parameters are exactly known . To obtain the controller, the tracking errors are defined, and the two sliding surfaces are chosen to guarantee that the errors converge to zero asymptotically. Two cases are to be considered: fixed torch and controllable torch. In addition, a simple way of measuring the errors is introduced using two potentiometers. The simulation results are included to illustrate the performance of the control law.
A three-level decoupled sliding mode controller is developed to achieve asymptotic stability for a class of sixth-order nonlinear systems. The sixth-order system is decoupled into three subsystems according to the structure of the whole system. Each subsystem has a separate control target in the form of a sliding surface. The information of the third sliding surface is transferred to the second one through an intermediate variable and the information of the second sliding surface is transferred to the first one through another intermediate variable. Consequently, the controller designed on the basis of the first sliding surface can make three subsystems move toward their sliding surfaces, respectively. The three-level decoupled sliding mode controller is applied to the double-inverted pendulum problem where the zero stable states are required.
Robustness characteristics to the modelling imprecision and some disturbances could be achieved in sliding mode control. However, there are drawbacks such as discontinuous control and chattering. Recently, many researches have been developing to solve such the problems. In sliding mode control, overall control input could be divided into two parts which are equivalent control input and sliding mode control input. Sliding mode control input is a function of the switching surfaces and can be designed with their linear combinations. In this paper, the sliding mode control input is designed by TSK fuzzy model. The proposed method gives the continuous sliding control input and reject the chattering phenomenon.
The terminal sliding mode control schemes have been studied a lot since they can guarantee that the state error gets to zero in a finite time. However, the conventional terminal sliding surfaces have been designed using power function whose exponent is a rational number between 0 and 1, and whose numerator and denominator should be odd integers. It is clearly restrictive. Thus, in this paper, we propose a novel terminal sliding surface using power function whose exponent can be a real number between 0 and 1.
A new sliding surface for a viaraible structure control(VSC) law is emplyed to achieve fast and robust path tracking in a class of second-order nonlinear unceratin dynamical systems. The surface onitialy passes arbitrarily given initial conditions and subsequently moves towards a predetermined surface via rotaiting or/and shifting. We call it as a moving sliding surface(MSS). The surface is then incorporated with the VSC law which is constructed by imposing the sliding conditions in a special way. We primarily enforce the conditions which assume that once the system state is on a sliding surface that it is driven towards the zero state. Using the VSC law associatied with the MSS, it is shown that the tracking behavoirs are remarkably improved in the sene of the fastness and the robustness.
