The subjects were 45 nurses working in the operating room. Experimental group were 24 nurses in G Hospital and control group were 21 nurses in U Hospital. All of the subjects were measured of the subjective stress, stress responses and the job stress. For aromatherapy, lavender, bergamot, and ylang were mixed in the ratio of 2 : 2 : 1. Results: 1) "The subjective stress of experimental group is lower than that of the control group" was supported (t=-2.70, p=.01). 2) "The stress responses of experi-mental group is lower than that of the control group" was supported (t=-2.49, p=.01). 3) "The job stress of experimental group is lower than that of the control group" was supported (t=-7.97, p=.00). • Purpose: This study was to identify the effects of Nei-Guan accupressure using a wrist band on postoperative nausea and vomiting after middle ear surgery. Methods: The study design was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized posttest design. Forty patients were assigned into two groups of 20 patients, the wrist band group and the control group. In the wristband group, acupressure was applied with a wrist band on the P6 point at both wrists from 30 min before to 24 hr after anesthesia. Results: The 1st hypothesis 'Applied wrist band groups will have a greater reduction in the nausea & vomiting grades by INVR than the control group' was accepted (t=2.303, p=.028). The 2nd hypothesis 'The Applied wrist band groups will have a greater reduction in the occurrence of nausea & vomiting than the control group' was partly accepted. The 3rd hypothesis 'The applied wrist band group will have a greater reduction in injection of antiemetics for 24 hr. post anesthesia than the control group' was rejected. Conclusion: Acupressure on the P6 point using a wrist band is effective to alleviate nausea for middle ear surgery patients.

Method: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design research design was used. The participants were 43 patients who had received TAE in a university hospital; patients in the experimental group (21) received both exercise therapy and general post-op nursing care and in the control group (22) only the latter. The exercise program used in this study was modified from exercise for post CABG to exercise for post TAE, which deflect the movement of thigh in which the catheter was inserted, the lumbar region of the back and pelvis. Results: First, Low back pain scores in the experimental group were lower than the control group. Second, The first dose of analgesics in the experimental group was delayed compared to the control group. Third, There was no significant difference in bleeding complications between the experimental group control groups. Conclusion: The results suggest that the exercise program used in this study is effective for relief of low back pain in patients on absolute bed rest after TAE.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effects of auricular acupressure on fatigue and depression among patients undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Methods: A nonequivalent control group nonsynchronized design was employed. Data were collected from December 2017 to May 2018, in the cancer center at a hospital located in B city. The experimental group received auricular acupressure four times a day, for 5 days, followed by a 2-day rest period. The control group received routine nursing care. The data were analyzed with independent t-tests, using the SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The level of fatigue and depression was lower in the experimental group as compared to that in the control group(t=5.29, p<.001; t=2.21, p=.038, respectively). However, depression scores increased post-intervention in the experimental group, as compared to the pre-intervention scores. Conclusions: The findings confirmed that auricular acupressure decreased fatigue however, depression scores increased post-intervention in the experimental group, as compared to the pre-intervention.

  • Purpose: To develop a web-based program on blood-borne infection control and to examine the effect of the newly developed program on perceived threat of diseases, knowledge, preventive health behaviors for blood-borne infections, and incidence rates of accidental needle sticks and other sharp object injuries in nurses. Methods: The program was developed through the processes of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research design involved a nonequivalent control group for pretest and posttest experiments. The setting was a 745-bed general hospital located in Korea. Results: The program was designed and developed after consulting previous studies. After development of the program was completed, it was evaluated and revised by a panel of experts. The total score for perceived threat of diseases, knowledge, preventive health behaviors in the experimental group was significantly higher compared to the control group (p<.05). The incidence rates for needle sticks and other sharp object injuries in the experimental group were significantly lower compared to the control group (p<.05). Conclusion: Application of a Web-based, blood-borne infection control program is effective, and can be expanded to other healthcare workers who also have a high risk of blood-borne infections.
