  • The physical, mechanical and freezing and thawing properties of non cement porous vegetation concrete using non-sintering inorganic binder have been evaluated in this study. Four types of porous vegetation concrete according to the binder type is evaluated. The pH value, void ratio, compressive strength, repeated freezing and thawing properties were tested. The test results indicate that the physical, mechanical and repeated freezing and thawing properties of porous vegetation concrete using the non-sintering inorganic binder is increased or equivalent compared to the porous vegetation concrete using the blast furnace slag + cement and hwang-toh + cement binders. Also, Vegetation monitoring test results indicate the porous vegetation concrete using the non-sintering inorganic binder have increasing effects of vegetation growth.

  • The homotopy analysis method (HAM) has been applied to develop an analytic solution for the coupled radiation-convection dissipative non-gray gas flow in a non-Darcy porous medium. Results are presented for the surface shear and temperature profiles are presented to illustrate the effect of various parameters appearing in the analytical formulation. The accuracy and convergence of the method is also discussed.

  • This paper introduces a non-hydrostatic wave model SWASH for simulating wave interactions with porous structures. This model calculates the flow in porous media based on volume-averaged Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations (VARANS) in ${\sigma}$-coordinate. The empirical coefficients of resistance used to account for the flow in a porous media often need to be measured or calibrated. In this study, the empirical resistance coefficients used in the model are calibrated and validated using laboratory experiments, involving dam-break flow through porous media, and solitary wave interactions with a porous structure. It is shown that the agreement between experimental and numerical results is generally satisfactory. It is also confirmed that non-hydrodynamic model, SWASH, is computationally much more efficient than the three-dimensional porous flow models based on VOF approach.

  • The aim of this reviews is to introduce the information concerning design of the UV-curable jet ink composition in order to provide a good adhesive property on non-porous surface. In order to clarify the viscosity dependence of flying speed for the UV curable jet ink, rheological analysis and observation of the flying state of the ink were carried out. The relationship between ink formulas and adhesive property on non-porous surface was investigated. It was examined the adhesive property of radical polymerization type UV curable jet ink included hydrogen abstraction type photo-initiator, it was expected that the strong adhesive strength can be obtained between the ink and non-porous surface in this study. UV curable jet ink with a slight amount of water was prepared. Optimum ratio of the cationic polymerization type UV curable jet ink shows an adequate adhesive strength towards two kinds of non-porous surface such as glass, poly(vinyl chloride) when tests were conducted on the ink jet-printing test machine.

  • Group III-nitride semiconductors have been widely studied as the materials for growth of light emitting devices. Currently, GaN devices are predominantly grown in the (0001) c-plane orientation. However, in case of using polar substrate, an important physical problem of nitride semiconductors with the wurtzite crystal structure is their spontaneous electrical polarization. An alternative method of reducing polarization effects is to grow on non-polar planes or semi-polar planes. However, non-polar and semipolar GaN grown onto r-plane and m-plane sapphire, respectively, basically have numerous defects density compared with c-plane GaN. The purpose of our work is to reduce these defects in non-polar and semi-polar GaN and to fabricate high efficiency LED on non/semi-polar substrate. Non-polar and semi-polar GaN layers were grown onto patterned sapphire substrates (PSS) and nano-porous GaN/sapphire substrates, respectively. Using PSS with the hemispherical patterns, we could achieve high luminous intensity. In case of semi-polar GaN, photo-enhanced electrochemical etching (PEC) was applied to make porous GaN substrates, and semi-polar GaN was grown onto nano-porous substrates. Our results showed the improvement of device characteristics as well as micro-structural and optical properties of non-polar and semi-polar GaN. Patterning and nano-porous etching technologies will be promising for the fabrication of high efficiency non-polar and semi-polar InGaN LED on sapphire substrate.

  • Recently, a perforated caisson breakwater with turning wave blocks was developed to improve the water affinity and public safety of a rubble mound armored by TTP. In this study, hydraulic model tests were performed to examine the hydraulic performance of a non-porous caisson and new caisson breakwater with perforated blocks for attacking waves in a small fishery harbor near Busan. The model test results showed that the new caisson was more effective in dissipating the wave energy under normal wave conditions and in reducing the wave overtopping rates under design wave conditions than the non-porous caisson. It was found that the horizontal wave forces acting on the perforated caisson were slightly larger than those on the non-porous caisson because of the impulsive forces on the caisson with the turning wave blocks.

  • The presence of a layer of vegetation which is relevant in river engineering or coastal engineering can modify the overall flow resistance, turbulent characteristics of flow. The patch of vegetation can be modelled and studied in a simple porous cylinder by previous researchers. Fully three dimensional Large Eddy Simulation is conducted in flow past a porous cylinder with a solid volume fraction (SVF) 0f 20%. The porous cylinder of diameter D contains 89 smaller cylinders which diameter is 0.048D in a regular staggered way. Reynolds number based on porous cylinder diameter D and the bulk velocity is 10,000. The large scale shedding is qualitatively similar to the one observed in the non-porous case (SVF=100%). The difference in the dynamics of the separated shear layer and the streamwise flow penetrating through the porous cylinder are compared with those in the non-porous cylinder. In particular, the wake billows form a larger distance from the back of the porous cylinder.

  • In this study, wave characteristics coming with oblique incident angle to permeable trapezoidal submerged breakwater on the porous seabed are calculated by using boundary element method. This numerical analysis, based on the wave pressure function, is analyzing the continuity in the analytical region including fluid and structure. From the comparison of the reflection coefficients and damping coefficient, the results of this study are in good agreement with the existing results. The peak values of reflection coefficient obtained by permeable trapezoidal submerged breakwater on the porous seabed are smaller than those of permeable trapezoidal submerged breakwater on the non-porous seabed. The velocity vector in front of permeable trapezoidal submerged breakwater on the porous seabed is smaller than that in front of permeable trapezoidal submerged breakwater on the non-porous seabed with out the energy loss.
