To examine the characteristics of the antioxidative property of Buckwheat components, acetone extracts from a buckwheat, Suwon 5, was fractionated using five solvents. Hexane, ethylacetate, ether, butanol and water fractions were obtained. Butanol fraction showed the greatest electron donating ability and inhibitory effect on lipid peroxidation. It also showed the most excellent activity in the superoxide radical scavenging activity by xanthine/xanthine oxidase-cytochrome c reduction system. Spectrophotogram of butanol fraction was similar to that of rutin. Superoxide radical scavenging activity was related to the contents of rutin. Inhibitory effect of each fraction on xanthine oxidase was also measured. Butanol fraction had the strongest inhibitory effect on xanthine oxidase and $IC_{50}\;was\;3.1\;{\mu}g$. The inhibition type of butanol fraction on xanthine oxidase turned out to be a mixture of the uncompetitive and non-competitive modes.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial-temporal proliferation of individual factories in the Seoul Metropolitan Area and to provide policy implications. The location of the factory is divided into individual locations and planned locations. In the case of individual locations, it takes a long time to establish factories. Also, due to high cost and regulation, the establishment of individual factories is not easy. However, since the establishment process is simple and the price of land is low, the establishment of individual factories has led to an increase in the number of individual factories. The problem of the undeveloped factories is that the lack of infrastructure such as the road and environmental pollution treatment facilities around the factory deteriorates the pleasant environment and the cityscape and deteriorates the health of the residents in the surrounding area. In this study, we analyzed the location of individual factories established in the Seoul metropolitan area from 2001 to 2016 by using ArcGIS Pro. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, individual location factories are formed around existing industrial complexes and industrial sites. The reason for this is considered to be the external effect that can be obtained from the surrounding area. Secondly, since the Seoul city's individual location factories are established in many residential areas, it shows the conflicting result of the mixture of residence and factory. Third, the Gyeonggi province's individual location factories have a high proportion of non-urban areas. This is because the Gyeonggi province's management area occupies a larger proportion than other areas in Gyeonggi province. This study analyzed the spatial - temporal spreading process of individual factories and the unfolding of individual factories in the metropolitan area, and it can provide policy implications to control the over development of individual factories in the future.
A seed pelleting technique was developed for easy handling of small sesame seeds (Chinbaeckkae) and for direct seeding in field. The mixture of pelleting material, binder(sodium alginate) and seeds were dropped in 100mM CaCl$_2$ solution. Charcoal was appeared as a best material among all to make pellets with the characters of hardness, breakdown, destruction rate and germination percentage. Zeolite formed the hardest pellet seeds among the materials and 1~3 seeds contained in a pellet on the treatment of 87g of sesame seeds mixed in 1$\ell$ CaCl$_2$ solution was estimated optimum rate of seed mixure with few appearance of seedless pellet. The moisture absorption rate was greater in the order of peat+charcoal > peat > charcoal > zeolite. Germination percentage of pelleted seeds with charcoal was the best and similar to that of common non-treated seeds. Germination percentage of pelleted seeds by sowing depth of exposing a quarter of pellet seeds on the surface of vermiculite germination test box and were 92% in charcoal treatment and was the best among all released materials.
The potential of applying cold plasma (CP) treatments to improve microbiological safety of powdered products has been investigated using infant milk powder (IMP) and onion powder (OP). Among the different kinds of CP-forming gases, He-$O_2$ (99.8:0.2) gas mixture and He gas were most effective in reducing the number of Cronobacter sakazakii in IMP and Bacillus cereus spores in OP, respectively. C. sakazakii counts in IMP decreased by $0.9{\pm}0.1{\log}\;CFU/g$ after CP treatment, and the extent of C. sakazakii inhibition increased in a time-dependent manner. CP treatment at 900 W for 20 min reduced the number of B. cereus spores by ~0.4 log spores/g. Treatments that integrated CP with microwave (MW-CP treatment) as well as those that integrated CP with heat and microwave (H-MW-CP treatment) resulted in a 90% reduction in the number of spores in OP. Thus, CP treatments demonstrated potential for decontaminating foodborne pathogens from powdered products, in combination with heat for improved effect.
Enterobacter sakazakii is implicated in severe forms of neonatal infections such as meningitis and sepsis. This organism has been isolated from a wide range of foods, including cheese, vegetables, grains, herbs, and spices, but its primary environment is still unknown. Generally, dried infant milk formula has been epidemiologically identified as the source of E. sakazakii. Sunsik (a powdered mixture of roasted grains and other foodstuffs) is widely consumed in Korea as a side dish or energy supplement. Sunsik is consumed without heat treatment; thus, lacking an additional opportunity to inactivate foodborne pathogens. Therefore, its microbiological safety should be guaranteed. In this study, the prevalence of E. sakazakii was monitored in 23 different sunsik component flours, using FDA recommended methods; but E. sakazakii medium (Neogen) and Chromogenic E. sakazakii medium (Oxoid) were used as the selective media. In total, presumptive E. sakazakii strains were isolated from 8 different sunsik powders. Subsequently, an API 20E test was conducted, and 15 strains from 5 different sunsik flours (sea tangle, brown rice, non-glutinous rice, cheonggukjang, dried anchovy) were confirmed as E. sakazakii. Fifteen strains were again confirmed by PCR amplification, using three different primer sets (tDNA sequence, ITS sequence, 16S rRNA sequence), and compared to ATCC strains (12868, 29004, 29544, 51329). They were once again confirmed by their enzyme production profiles using an API ZYM kit. Finally, RAPD (random amplified polymorphic DNA)-genotyping was carried out as a monitoring tool to determine the contamination route of E. sakazakii during processing.
The experimental investigation aims at developing controlled low strength materials (CLSM) using a self-cementitious fly ash (FA) as a binder and a bottom ash (BA) as a aggregate. The fly ash and bottom ash used in this study were obtained from a circulating fluidized bed combustion boiler (CFBC) which produces relatively high CaO containing fly ash. To find the optimum mixing condition satisfying flow consistency and unconfined compression strength (UCS), the CLSM specimens were prepared under various mixing conditions, including two types of aggregate and different weight fractions between fly ash and aggregate. Additionally, the prepared specimens were evaluated using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results of this study demonstrate that the water content satisfying flow consistency ranges from 42% to 85% and the flowability is improved with increasing the fraction of aggregate in whole mixture. The USC ranges from 0.3 MPa to 1.9 MPa. The results of UCS increases with increasing the fraction of aggregate in FA-sand mixtures, but decreases with increasing the fraction of aggregate in FA-BA mixtures. SEM images and XRD patterns reveal that the occurrence of both geopolymerization and hydration. The results of this study demonstrate that CFBC fly ash could be used as an alternative binder of CLSM mixtures.

Pulmonary blastoma is a primary lung tumor consisting of a mixture of immature embryonal-like mensenchymal and epithelial components and in some areas resemble embryonal lung tissue of up to 3-4 months gestational age. The tumor was first described in 1945 by Barren and Barmard and again in 1952 by Barmard, who named it an embryoma of the lung which resembled fetal lung histologically, with glandular structures lined by non-ciliated epithelium and a surrounding stroma resembling mesenchyme. In 1961 Spencer renamed them Pulmonary blastoma as he believed they represented neoplasms similar in pathogenesis to nephroblastoma. The prognosis of these rumors is poor, and the clinical course is not readily predicted from histological appearance. Untill now, more than one hundred cases have been reponed in the literature in the word and there is no report in Korea. We report a case of biphasic pulmonary blastoma, which ruptured spontaneously, in a 31-year-old young man who was presented as sharp pain under the right subscapular area.

Acute exacerbation(s) of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) tend to be critical and debilitating events leading to poorer outcomes in relation to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) treatment modalities, and contribute to a higher and earlier mortality rate in COPD patients. Besides pro-active preventative measures intended to obviate acquisition of AECOPD, early recovery from severe AECOPD is an important issue in determining the long-term prognosis of patients diagnosed with COPD. Updated GOLD guidelines and recently published American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society clinical recommendations emphasize the importance of use of pharmacologic treatment including bronchodilators, systemic steroids and/or antibiotics. As a non-pharmacologic strategy to combat the effects of AECOPD, noninvasive ventilation (NIV) is recommended as the treatment of choice as this therapy is thought to be most effective in reducing intubation risk in patients diagnosed with AECOPD with acute respiratory failure. Recently, a few adjunctive modalities, including NIV with helmet and helium-oxygen mixture, have been tried in cases of AECOPD with respiratory failure. As yet, insufficient documentation exists to permit recommendation of this therapy without qualification. Although there are too few findings, as yet, to allow for regular andr routine application of those modalities in AECOPD, there is anecdotal evidence to indicate both mechanical and physiological benefits connected with this therapy. High-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy is another supportive strategy which serves to improve the symptoms of hypoxic respiratory failure. The therapy also produced improvement in ventilatory variables, and it may be successfully applied in cases of hypercapnic respiratory failure. Extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal has been successfully attempted in cases of adult respiratory distress syndrome, with protective hypercapnic ventilatory strategy. Nowadays, it is reported that it was also effective in reducing intubation in AECOPD with hypercapnic respiratory failure. Despite the apparent need for more supporting evidence, efforts to improve efficacy of NIV have continued unabated. It is anticipated that these efforts will, over time, serve toprogressively decrease the risk of intubation and invasive mechanical ventilation in cases of AECOPD with acute respiratory failure.
Flow characteristics and the operating range of gas velocity was investigated for a two-stage bubbling fluidized-bed (0.1 m-i.d., 1.2 m-high) that had continuous solids feed and discharge. Solids were fed in to the upper fluidized-bed and overflowed into the bed section of the lower fluidized-bed through a standpipe (0.025 m-i.d.). The standpipe was simply a dense solids bed with no mechanical or non-mechanical valves. The solids overflowed the lower bed for discharge. The fluidizing gas was fed to the lower fluidized-bed and the exit gas was also used to fluidize the upper bed. Air was used as fluidizing gas and mixture of coarse (< $1000{\mu}m$ in diameter and $3090kg/m^3$ in apparent density) and fine (< $100{\mu}m$ in diameter and $4400kg/m^3$ in apparent density) particles were used as bed materials. The proportion of fine particles was employed as the experimental variable. The gas velocity of the lower fluidized-bed was defined as collapse velocity in the condition that the standpipe was emptied by upflow gas bypassing from the lower fluidized-bed. It could be used as the maximum operating velocity of the present process. The collapse velocity decreased after an initial increase as the proportion of fine particles increased. The maximum took place at the proportion of fine particles 30%. The trend of the collapse velocity was similar with that of standpipe pressure drop. The collapse velocity was expressed as a function of bulk density of particles and voidage of static bed. It increased with an increase of bulk density, however, decreased with an increase of voidage of static bed.
This study was performed to investigate the effects of microbial augmentation on the biological treatment of paper mill wastewater. Three bacteria (KN11, KN13, KN27) capable of degrading aromatic compounds and a bacterial strain (GT21) producing an extracellular cellulase were isolated from soil and wastewater by selective enrichment culture. Through morphological, physiological, and biochemical taxonomies, isolated strains of KN11, KN13, KN27, and GT21 were identified as Acinetobacter sp., Neisseria sp., Bacillus sp., and Pseudomonas sp. and named Acinetobacter sp. KN11, Neisseria sp. KN13, Bacillus sp. KN27, and Pseudomonas sp. GT21, respectively. For analysis of non-biodegradable and chemical oxygen demand (COD)-increasing matter in a paper mill wastewater, we utilized GC/MS to detect aromatic compounds and their derivatives containing several substituted functional groups. The microbial augmentation, J30 formulated with the mixture of bacteria including Acinetobacter sp. KN11, Neisseria sp. KN13, Bacillus sp. KN27, and Pseudomonas sp. GT21, was used for the treatment of paper mill wastewater. The optimum temperature and pH for COD removal of the microbial augmentation, J30, were $30^{\circ}C$ and 7.5, respectively. For evaluation of the industrial applicability of the microbial augmentation, J30 in the pilot test, treatment efficiency was examined using paper mill wastewater. The microbial augmentation, J30, showed a COD removal rate of 87%. On the basis of the above results, we designed the wastewater treatment process of the activated sludge system.
