In this work, we give necessary and sufficient conditions under which every solution of a class of first-order neutral differential equations of the form $$(x(t)+p(t)x({\tau}(t)))^{\prime}+q(t)Hx({\sigma}(t)))=0$$ either oscillates or converges to zero as $t{\rightarrow}{\infty}$ for various ranges of the neutral coefficient p. Our main tools are the Knaster-Tarski fixed point theorem and the Banach's contraction mapping principle.

This study proposed a new approach to impliment a robusut control of comsumer-friendly flexible manipulator with five joint for untact working in filed work-site. The output redefinition approach was used to overcome the non minimum phase characteristic of the system. The new output is defined so that the zero dynamics related to this output are stable. The control strategy is based on an computed torque method which is applicable to a class of time-invariamt phase linear systems whose uncertainties appear in output loop stable. The controller is composed of a stabilizing joint controller and an output redefinition tracking controller. Experimental results are also presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Nonlinear weirs, such as labyrinth and piano key weirs, are suitable methods to handle increased flood flows that may be expected due to climate change. Although specific physical models are considered to be an effective way of investigating fluid flows, simply conducting physical model tests is insufficient to fully comprehend the hydraulic and discharge characteristics of non-linear weirs. In this study, computational fluid dynamics algorithms have been used extensively to investigate complex flow physics instead of relying on reduced scale models. The discharge capacity of the piano key weir and the rectangular labyrinth weir is compared using a three-dimensional numerical model, which is validated by the available experimental data. The results confirm that piano key weir is more efficient than the rectangular labyrinth weir for a wide range of head water ratios. By analyzing the contribution of discharge over inlet, outlet and sidewall crests, the factor that make the piano key weir superior to the rectangular weir is the sidewall discharge.

There have been many recent studies on the nonlinear rainfall-runoff modeling, where the use of neural networks is shown to be quite successful. Due to fundamental limitation of linear structures, employing linear models has often been considered inferior to the neural network approaches in this area. However, we believe that with an appropriate extension, the concept of linear impulse responses can be a viable tool since it enables us to understand underlying dynamics principles better. In this paper, we propose the use of multiple impulse responses for the problem of rainfall-runoff analysis. The proposed method is based on a simple and fixed strategy for switching among multiple linear impulse-response models, each of which satisfies the constraints of non-negativity and uni-modality. The computational analysis performed for a certain Korean hydrometeorologic data set showed that the proposed method can yield very meaningful results.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a system dynamics model for adolescent obesity in Korea that could be used for obesity policy analysis. Methods: On the basis of the casual loop diagram, a model was developed by converting to stock and flow diagram. The Vensim DSS 5.0 program was used in the model development. We simulated method of moments to the calibration of this model with data from The Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey 2005 to 2013. We ran the scenario simulation. Results: This model can be used to understand the current adolescent obesity rate, predict the future obesity rate, and be utilized as a tool for controlling the risk factors. The results of the model simulation match well with the data. It was identified that a proper model, able to predict obesity probability, was established. Conclusion: These results of stock and flow diagram modeling in adolescent obesity can be helpful in development of obesity by policy planners and other stakeholders to better anticipate the multiple effects of interventions in both the short and the long term. In the future we suggest the development of an expanded model based on this adolescent obesity model.
This paper studies the problem of tracking a re-entry vehicle (RV) in order to predict its impact point on the ground. Re-entry target dynamics combined with super-high speed has a complex non-linearity due to ballistic coefficient variations. However, it is difficult to construct a database for the ballistic coefficient of a unknown vehicle for a wide range of variations, thus the reliability of target tracking performance cannot be guaranteed if accurate ballistic coefficient estimation is not achieved. Various techniques for ballistic coefficient estimation have been previously proposed, but limitations exist for the estimation of non-linear parts accurately without obtaining prior information. In this paper we propose the ballistic coefficient ${\beta}$ model-based interacting multiple model-extended Kalman filter (${\beta}$-IMM-EKF) for precise tracking of an RV. To evaluate the performance, other ballistic coefficient model based filters, which are gamma augmented filter, gamma bootstrapped filter were compared and assessed with the proposed ${\beta}$-IMM-EKF for precise tracking of an RV.

This study was conducted to develop a simulation model for the growth dynamics of pigs and to describe quantitatively protein deposition depending on the amino acid composition of feed protein. In the model it is assumed that the essential processes that determine the utilization of feed protein in the whole body are protein synthesis, breakdown of protein, and oxidation of amino acid. Besides, it is also assumed that occurrence of protein deposition depends on genetic potential and amino acid composition of feed protein. The genetic potential for the protein deposition is the maximum capacity of protein synthesis, being dependent on the protein mass of the whole body. To describe the effect of amino acid composition of feed on the protein deposition, a factor, which consist of ten amino acid functions and lie between 0 and 1, is introduced. Accordingly a model was developed, which is described with 15 flux equations and 11 differential equations and is composed of two compartments. The model describes non linear structure of the protein utilization system of an organism, which is in non steady state. The objective function for the simulation was protein deposition(g/day) cal culated according to the empirical model, PAF(product of amino acid functions) of Menke. The mean of relative difference between the simulated protein deposition and PAF calculated values, lied in a range of 11.8%. The simulated protein synthesis and breakdown rates(g/day) in the whole body showed a parallel behavior in the course of growth.
Interaction between closely-spaced buildings subject to earthquake induced strong ground motions, termed in the literature as "seismic pounding", occurs commonly during major seismic events in contemporary congested urban environments. Seismic pounding is not taken into account by current codes of practice and is rarely considered in practice at the design stage of new buildings constructed "in contact" with existing ones. Thus far, limited research work has been devoted to quantify the influence of slab-to-slab pounding on the inelastic seismic demands at critical locations of structural members in adjacent structures that are not aligned in series. In this respect, this paper considers a typical case study of a "new" reinforced concrete (R/C) EC8-compliant, torsionally sensitive, 7-story corner building constructed within a block, in bi-lateral contact with two existing R/C 5-story structures with same height floors. A non-linear local plasticity numerical model is developed and a series of non-linear time-history analyses is undertaken considering the corner building "in isolation" from the existing ones (no-pounding case), and in combination with the existing ones (pounding case). Numerical results are reported in terms of averages of ratios of peak inelastic rotation demands at all structural elements (beams, columns, shear walls) at each storey. It is shown that seismic pounding reduces on average the inelastic demands of the structural members at the lower floors of the 7-story building. However, the discrepancy in structural response of the entire block due to torsion-induced, bi-directionally seismic pounding is substantial as a result of the complex nonlinear dynamics of the coupled building block system.

Currently, the majority of systems which are non-linear are in need of the correct system equations for controlling and monitoring. Therefore, the correct estimation of parameters is crucial. Generally, parameters are changed due to system deterioration or sudden environmental alterations. Given the limitations of system monitoring unstable controls can arise. In the following paper, the parameter estimation method is proposed using software filters to combat these system instabilities. For dynamic instances, a powerful particle filter is used to control the nonlinear and noisy environments in which they take place. Using a setup simulation comprised of a slider and pendulum, the state variable of noise is obtained. After collecting the data, the proposed algorithm is used to estimate both the state variable and its parameters. Finally, these results are checked with correct parameter estimations to evaluate and verify the algorithms performance.

The aim of this study was to analyze the seasonal patterns of zooplankton community dynamics in the lower Nakdong River (Mulgum, RK; river kilometer; 27 km from the estuarine barrage), with a Self-Organizing Map (SOM) based on weekly sampled data collected over ten years(1994 ${\sim}$ 2003). It is well known that zooplankton groups had important role in the food web of freshwater ecosystems, however, less attention has been paid to this group compared with other community constituents. A non-linear patterning algorithm of the SOM was applied to discover the relationship among river environments and zooplankton community dynamics. Limnological variables (water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH , Secchi transparency, turbidity, chlorophyll a, discharge, etc.) were taken into account to implement patterning seasonal changes of zooplankton community structures (consisting of rotifers, cladocerans and copepods). The trained SOM model allocated zooplankton on the map plane with limnological parameters. Three zooplankton groups had high similarities to one another in their changing seasonal patterns, Among the limnological variables, water temporature was highly related to the zooplankton community dynamics (especially for cladocerans). The SOM model illustrated the suppression of zooplankton due to the increased river discharge, particularly in summer. Chlorophyll a concentrations were separated from zooplankton data set on the map plane, which would intimate the herbivorous activity of dominant grazers. This study introduces the zooplankton dynamics associated with limnological parameters using a nonlinear method, and the information will be useful for managing the river ecosystem, with respect to the food web interactions.
