In the representation of buildings with continuous changes in the curved shape of the surface, countless plans or sections are required, or none of the traditional drawings can explain the geometry of it. In other words, in no case can an ordinary drawing achieve the efficient and clear communication capability which is inherent function of the drawings. As a result, the current architects are introducing their own way of drawing technique which is developed in accordance with a specific curved shape, construction method or company resources, but this is not what can be applied to other cases because it has not been ever shared or agreed in the industry. In this process, the drawing or construction of curved building has been recognized as the exclusive property of a specific expert, or the design and construction without the in-depth understanding of the technology have resulted in the appearance of poor buildings. Therefore, this study aims to present an elements and method that can convey shape information more effectively and clearly in the drawing representation of non-linear buildings and, thus, contributes to lowering the barriers to entry into the field by providing the information to be easily applied to related projects. In order to attain this goal, the drawings of recently completed projects of free form building are analyzed to reveal the method used to effectively express the shape information of the building and to derive new drawing elements that have not been applied to the existing drawings.
Metallicity distribution of globular clusters (GCs) provides an important clue for star formation history of their host galaxy. With an assumption that GCs are generally old, GC colors have been used as a proxy of GC metallicities. Bimodal GC color distributions observed in most large galaxies have, for decades, been interpreted as bimodal metallicity distributions, indicating the presence of two populations within a galaxy. However, the conventional view has been challenged by a new theory that non-linear GC color-metallicity relations (CMRs) can cause a bimodal color distribution even from a single-peaked metallicity distribution. Using the photometric and spectroscopic data of NGC 5128 GCs in combination with stellar population simulation models, we examine the effect of non-linearity in GC CMRs on the transformation of GC color distributions into metallicity distributions. Although, in some colors, offsets are present between observations and models in the CMRs, their overall shape agrees well for various colors. After the offsets are corrected, the observed spectroscopic metallicity distribution is well reproduced via modeled CMRs from various color distributions having different morphologies. On the other hand, the linearly converted metallicity distributions from GC colors show a significant discrepancy with the observed spectroscopic metallicity distribution. We discuss the implications of our results.

In financial economics studies, the autoregressive model has been a workhorse for a long time. However, the model has a fixed value on every parameter and requires the stationarity assumptions. Time-varying coefficient autoregressive model that we use in this paper offers some desirable benefits over the traditional model such as the parameters are allowed to be varied over-time and can be applies to non-stationary financial data. This paper provides the Monte Carlo simulation studies which show that the model can capture the dynamic movement of parameters very well, even though, there are some sudden changes or jumps. For the daily data from January 1, 2015 to February 12, 2020, our paper provides the empirical studies that Thailand, Taiwan and Tokyo Stock market Index can be explained very well by the time-varying coefficient autoregressive model with lag order one while South Korea's stock index can be explained by the model with lag order three. We show that the model can unveil the non-linear shape of the estimated mean. We employ GJR-GARCH in the condition variance equation and found the evidences that the negative shocks have more impact on market's volatility than the positive shock in the case of South Korea and Tokyo.

Differential pressure flow meters which have a shape of triangular separate bar(TSB) were tested for investigating the flow rate characteristics of the flow meters with varying the temperature of the gas flow. Three kinds of the triangular separate bar flow meters whose aerodynamic angles are different one another are used. The mass flow rate of the flow meters are evaluated using a non-dimensional parameter which includes the gas temperature, exhaust gas pressure and differential pressure at the flow meters, and atmospheric pressure. A burner system which is similar to gas turbine was used for raising the gas flow temperature. The burner system was operated with varying the air/fuel ratio by controlling both the fuel injection rate from the fuel nozzle and air flow rate from a blower. An empirical correlation between the mass flow rate at the TSB flow meter and the non-dimensional parameter was obtained. The empirical correlation showed linear relationship between the mass flow rate and the non-dimensional parameter H. Also, the mass flow rate characteristics at the TSB flow meter was affected by the gas temperature.

Weak form integral equations are developed to investigate the flapwise bending vibration of the rotating beams. Rayleigh and Eringen nonlocal elasticity theories are used to investigate the rotatory inertia and Size-dependency effects on the flapwise bending vibration of the rotating cantilever beams, respectively. Through repetitive integrations, the governing partial differential equations are converted into weak form integral equations. The novelty of the presented approach is the approximation of the mode shape function by a power series which converts the equations into solvable one. Substitution of the power series into weak form integral equations results in a system of linear algebraic equations. The natural frequencies are determined by calculation of the non-trivial solution for resulting system of equations. Accuracy of the proposed method is verified through several numerical examples, in which the influence of the geometry properties, rotatory inertia, rotational speed, taper ratio and size-dependency are investigated on the natural frequencies of the rotating beam. Application of the weak form integral equations has made the solution simpler and shorter in the mathematical process. Presented relations can be used to obtain a close-form solution for quick calculation of the first five natural frequencies of the beams with flapwise vibration and non-local effects. The analysis results are compared with those obtained from other available published references.

In this paper, a geometric nonlinear analysis procedure of the beam-column element including multi-noded cable element in extension of companion paper (Kim et al., 2005) is presented. First, a stiffness matrix was derived about the beam-column element that considers the second effect of the initial force supposing the curved shape at each time-step, with Hermitian polynomials as the shape function. Second, the multi-noded cable element was also subjected to the tangent stiffness matrix. To verify the geometric nonlinearity of this newly developed multi-noded cable-truss element, the Innovative Prestressed Support (IPS) system using this theory was analysed by geometric nonlinear method and the results were compared with those produced by linear analysis.

In this study, the compressive behavior of a 1/12.5 scale model of a wind tower support structure connection was experimentally analyzed. A high-performance cementitious grout with a compressive strength of 140 MPa was used to fill the connection, and experiments were conducted with shear key spacing, the shape, and connection length as variables. When the number of shear keys in the connection is the same, the smaller the spacing of the shear keys than the length of the connection, the higher the shear strength, and for the same spacing and connection length, the higher the height of the shear keys, the higher the strength. In addition, it was found that the strength showed a linear behaviour until the connection slip reached 1.0 mm, and it reached the maximum strength at 7.0 mm connection slip showing a non-linear behaviour as the load increased. It was found that the failure mode changed from interfacial shear failure to grout failure as the strength increased according to the shape and spacing of the shear key, and brittle failure did not occur due to steel fibers.

This paper presents contact behavior of an Polyperfluoroalkoxyethylene(PTFE) ring seals by a non-linear finite element method using the thermomechanical analysis. PTFE elastomer was assumed as odgen model for numerical analysis in FEM commercial code because elastomer has nonlinear behaviour character. The shape effects are investigated for sealing performance of ring seal in boundary conditions which as gas pressure, groove temperature and various O-ring seal models. Also contact stress and equivalent total strain are investicated. An O-ring seals was modeled four shape which are circle, two sunflower and X. The highest contact stress occurs at sunflower-ring seal with groove deapth of 0.35mm. the equivalent total strain of sunflower-ring seal is lower than that of the others under low gas pressure condition but under gas pressure condition over 4Mpa, that of sunflower-ring seal is higher. The calculated FEM results shows that the Sunflower-ring seal with groove depth of 0.35mm has excellent performance compared with other seal models.
This paper presents the optimal permanent magnet shape on the rotor of an interior permanent magnet motor to reduce the core losses and improve the performance. As permanent magnet has conductivity inherently, it causes huge amount of eddy current losses by the slot harmonics with concentrated winding. This loss is roughly 100 times larger than that of distributed winding in high speed operation and it cannot be ignored, especially on traction motors. Each eddy current loss on permanent magnet has been investigated in detail by using FEM(Finite Element Method) instead of EMCNM(Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network Method) in order to consider saturation and non-linear magnetic property. Simulation-based DOE(Design Of Experiment) is also applied to avoid large number of analyses according to each design parameter and consider expected interactions among parameters. Consequently, the optimal design to reduce the core loss on the permanent magnet while maintaining or improving motor performance is proposed by an optimization algorithm using regression equation derived and lastly, the core loss reduction on the proposed shape of the permanent magnet is verified by FEM.
