  • The purpose of this study was to develop a "Family Play Therapy Program" using puppets to decrease attachment problems for families with children having attachment problems and to examine its effectiveness. The participants were an experimental group of 16 individuals(8 children with attachment problems whose ages ranged from 4 to 5 and 8 mothers) and a control group of 16 individuals (8 children with attachment problems whose ages ranged from 4 to 5 and 8 mothers). The experimental group was treated through the Family Play Therapy Program, which involved the use of puppets and was held for twelve sessions twice a week. The changes in the participants were measured in order to examine the effects of the program. The researcher measured children's emotional and behavioral expression(TBP), the mothers' sense of self(Self-Differentiation Scale), personal relationships(ECR-R), and the perception of family functions(ICPS-FFS) both before and after the FPT program and compared their differences. The MIM Rating Scale and Marschak Behavior Rating Scale were administered to examine the interactions between mothers and children, and 1:1 interviews were also conducted. The data thus gathered were used for non-parametric analysis(Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon rank sum test)using SPSS WIN 17.0. The results of this study were as follows: First, the program had a positive effect on children's emotional expression. After the problem were over, negative emotional and behavioral expression in the experimental group decreased. Second, the program had a positive effect on mothers' self-differentiation and personal relationships. Third, the program had a positive effect on changes in the interaction behaviors between the mother and child. Fourth, the program had a partially positive effect on the responses from their group developmental stages, especially on the subscale of both a program for the reinforcement of mothers' emotions and family play program utilizing puppets.

  • Providing visual information about the fetus to the mother by the ultrasound examination was found to be an effective nursing intervention to promote Maternal-Fetal Attachment. In keeping with the purpose of the study, to evaluate the effect of providing visual information by ultrasound on level of Maternal-Fetal Attachment, a non-equivalent experimental group quasi-experimental design was used. The data were collected using Cranley's Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale(1981) with a research questionnaire that consisted of 16 items on general characteristics and 23 items on Maternal-Fetal Attachment from November 2, 2000 to August 11, 2001. Subjects were 126 pregnant women who were received visual information by ultrasound and 123 pregnant women who did not receive visual information by ultrasound after finishing examination. The data were analyzed by using the SPSS/PC+ window 10.0 version program. The results of this study were as follows: There was no statistical difference in general characteristics between both groups. The scores on Maternal-Fetal Attachment at second trimester show no statistical difference (t=1.123, p=0.263). The scores on Maternal-Fetal Attachment in both groups increased between the second trimester and third trimester. However, the increase was greater in the group receiving visual information by ultrasound as compared to the group which did not receive the visual information(t=-2.152, p=0.032). This result shows that providing visual information about the fetus by the ultrasound examination is effective in increasing Maternal-Fetal Attachment.

  • Purpose: The study was done to investigate behavioral problems in toddlers who were born prematurely and to analyze related factors. Methods: A cross-sectional explorative study was conducted with 72 preterm birth (PTB) children at 24 to 41 months of corrected age who were born at 28 to 37 weeks' gestation. During home visits, behavior problems were assessed using the Behavior Rating Index for Children (BRIC). Using a BRIC score of ${\geq}30$, children with suspected behavior problems were grouped in the non-regular behavior group. Results: Of the children, 38.9% belong to the non-regular behavior group. The mental development index score for the Korean-Bayley Scale of Infant Development- II was higher for the non-regular behavior group compared to the regular behavior group (t=2.26, p=.027). Logistic regression analysis showed that lower maternal attachment (<96, OR=3.4, 95% CI[1.1, 10.4]) and higher parenting stress (${\geq}97$, OR=4.8, 95% CI[1.3, 17.3]) were independently related to non-regular behavior. Conclusion: PTB Toddlers are at risk for behavior problems which are associated with low cognitive performance. Maternal-child attachment and maternal parenting stress were strongly related to behavior problems in these children. More attention is needed to understand possible behavior problems in young children with PTB, particularly focusing on maternal-child interaction and maternal mental well-being.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore further understanding of variables, besides father's alcoholism, which relates to psychosocial adjustment among ADAF(adult daughters of alcoholic fathers). This study examines the relationship between father's alcoholism, family functioning, parental attachment and the psychosocial adjustment among the ADAF. From a larger sample of 463 female college students, 160 ADAF and a matched group of non-ADAF were identified to participate in the study. This survey was conducted in Seoul and Gyungi-do area. Participants completed self-report questionnaires, "The Korean Version of Children of Alcoholics Screening Test", "Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment", "Satisfaction With Life Scale", "Self-esteem", "Beck Depression Inventory" and "Family Environment Scale". Path analyses was used to test the research question. Findings indicated that father's alcoholism had no direct effect on both the psychosocial adjustment of the ADAF and the family functioning. But father's alcoholism was significantly related to parental attachment. Family functioning was significant predictor of attachment to parents as well as psychosocial adjustment. Finally family functioning is important cause for parental attachment and psychosocial adjustment, specifically self-esteem and life satisfaction outcomes only. Therefore parental attachment was function as a mediator in the relationship between family functioning and psychosocial adjustment. In conclusion, this study showed that father's alcoholism did not predict outcome. We need to reconsider the assumption that direct link exists between adult adjustment difficulties and the presence of father's alcoholism. Implications for clinical and theoretical work with ADAF are discussed.

  • Objective : This study was to find out the level of sensory process type, adult attachment and interpersonal problems on university students and then to investigate the correlation. Methods : For this study, 169 students who don't know about the evaluation tool in university students of K area in Korea were participated. To execute evaluation, Adolescents/Adults Sensory Profile (AASP) was used for the sensory process type, Short Form of the Korean Inventory of Interpersonal Problems Circumplex Scale (KIIP-SC) was used for interpersonal problems, and Experiences in Close Relationships Scale-Revised (ECR-R) was used for the adult attachment. The correlation between sensory process type and interpersonal problems, adult attachment was analyzed by using pearson correlation analysis. Results : Sensory process type of university students appeared that sensory seeking was lower than general people, and the rest of items showed similar results with general people. For interpersonal problems, there was a lot of difficulty in self-sacrificing and overly accommodating, whereas there was a little difficulty in vindictive and domineering / controlling. For adult attachment, attachment avoiding was more stable than attachment anxiety. Also, low registration and sensory sensitivity all showed positive correlation with interpersonal problems and adult attachment. Among interpersonal problems, self-sacrificing and intrusive showed positive correlation with sensory seeking whereas cold, socially inhibited, nonassertive, and overly accommodating showed positive correlation with sensory avoiding. Thus, sensory seeking and sensory avoiding showed different results (p<.05). Conclusion : In occupational therapy clinic, not only the disabled but non-disabled people that experience issue of interpersonal problems and attachment could be helped with managing high quality social activity if they execute intervention according to sensory process type.

  • In this study, we tested the reliability and validity of the Korean Version of nonattachment scale(K-NAS) that Sahdra et al., had developed to measure for nonattachment. In result, the internal consistency coefficient(Cronbach's alpha) of the K-NAS was (.94) high, correlation coefficients of item-total were to .32 from .69. The result of factor analysis showed that single factor accounted for 37.77 % of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis and additional exploratory factor analysis demonstrated that the 1 factor model was satisfactory. K-NAS was positively related to experiences scale, self-compassion, psychological well-being and mindfulness, and negatively related to depression. These findings suggest that the Korean Version of Nonattachment Scale(K-NAS) was reliable and valid scale to measure for nonattachment. Finally, The implication of this study and direction for future study were discussed.

  • Purpose: Various studies to solve the problem of increased energy consumption in the buildings are being carried out recently. Especially, the economic feasibility and insulation performance of the air-cap have been verified so that various studies regarding the reduction of building energy consumption have been carried out. However, previous studies regarding the air-cap were only carried out based on the verification of its insulation performance according to the size and attachment position of the air-cap. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest a detachable air-cap module for improving the performance of the windows, evaluate the performance based on cooling, heating and light environments and verify its effectiveness through a real-scale testbed. Method: In this study, the energy saving performance in the circumstance where there is no attachment of an air-cap (Case 1), the circumstance where there is the attachment of air-cap on the glass surface of window (Case 2) and the circumstance where there is the attachment of an air-cap on the window frame (Case 3) were compared in order to verify the performance of the detachable air-cap module (Case 4), and the electricity consumption of cooling, heating and lighting equipment to maintain the appropriate indoor temperature and Illuminance for each case was calculated and utilized as indicators for the performance evaluation. Result: The result of this study is as follows. 1) In this study, the detachable air-cap module which was easily detachable through the principle of the magnet was suggested. 2) When Case 4 is applied, the electricity consumption of cooling and heating equipment can be reduced by 27.5%, 13.2% and 3.4% in comparison with Case 1, Case 2 and Case 3 respectively. 3) When the air-cap is applied to the window, the lighting energy consumption increases by 4 % in comparison to the non application of the air-cap, and this factor or aspect should be considered when applying the air-cap. 4) According to the performance evaluation result in consideration of cooling, heating and light environments, Case 4 demonstrates an energy saving ratio of 22.6%, 10.6% and 2.7% in comparison to Case 1, Case 2 and Case 3 respectively, indicating that it is effective for improving the performance of windows.

  • The cuticle of spider's exoskeleton is a hydrophobic and non-adhesive material, but the jumping spiders have the distinctive attachment apparatus for adhesion on smooth dry surface without sticky fluids. We have examined the whole tarsal appendages of the jumping spider, Plexippus setipes with using scanning electron microscope to reveal the fine structural characteristics of the dry adhesion system. All eight legs have the scopulae with a pair of claws on the tip of feet. Each scopula is composed of two groups of setae that are capable of dry adhesion on smooth surface, and the hook structure of the claw is advanced to move on the rough surface. The setae toward the bottom of the tarsal segment are densely covered by numerous setules on the underside which broadened from middle to distal portion. It has been revealed by this research that the contact area of the setule is always a triangular shape, and these cuticular surfaces are connected by the elongated stalks from the underlying setae. It is likely that the nano-scale structures including a triangular depression and a longitudinal groove on each setule could functionate when the spider detach its feet from the substrate.
