  • Non-reference P frame coding is used to enhance coding efficiency in low-delay encoding configuration of Internet Video Coding (IVC), which is being standardized as a royalty-free video codec in MPEG. The existing method of non-reference P frame coding which was adopted in the reference Test Model of IVC (ITM) 4.0 adaptively applies a non-reference P frame with a fixed coding structure based on the magnitude of motion vectors (MVs), however, which unexpectedly degrades the coding efficiency for some sequences. In this paper, the existing non-reference P frame coding is improved by changing non-reference P frame coding structure and applying a new adaptive method using the ratio of the amount of generated bits of non-reference frames to that of reference frames as well as MVs. Experimental results show that the proposed non-reference P frame coding gives 6.6% BD-rate bit saving in average over ITM 7.0.

  • The paper proposes reference model error feedback control scheme for motion control system with hard non-linear components as like saturation and dead-zone in plant input part. Additionally, the plant has the system uncertainty effected by plant model parameter deviation and disturbance. The control algorithm uses the reference model to apply additional feedback loop with the error between reference model output and actual output effected by disturbance and non-linear components. And the stability evaluation based on Popov stability and controller design method are formulated to be performed. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is examined by simulations. The results are proven by reasonable performances following reference model responses with good disturbance rejection performance without over-tuning of controller.

  • The Korean government plans to introduce the building energy performance standard which regulates the annual energy consumption of buildings. This paper aimed to set up the reference building from database based on the building design trends for non-residential buildings. We surveyed the design data of 435 non-residential buildings which were granted building permission from 2007 to 2011. And we conducted estimation on the heating & cooling load and the energy consumption of the reference building using ECO2 program. From results, the reference building of non-residential buildings was office building which had a total 7 floors and $20,838m^2$ gross floor area. And it suggests the design reference data of building envelope, HAVC, heat source equipment and lighting system for the reference building. The total annual energy use of the reference building was $151.9kWh/m^2yr$.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate Aldo Rossi's work as representation or non-representation, for some hold that the works of Aldo Rossi are representative and others say that they are non-representative. According to the three kinds of novelties appearing after Stephen Pepper's concept, "the breaking of reference" happens, and Aldo Rossi's concept, "the sense of deposition" Rossi's work is uncovered as non-representation. In order to clarify Rossi's work as non-representation, we are going to borrow Pepper's terms, intrusive novelty, emergent novelty, and naive novelty. The breaking of reference accompanies intrusive novelty to bring a sense of representation, emergent novelty to intuit a sense of non-representation, and naive novelty to a sense of newness of disorder. We hope to verify a hypothesis that Aldo Rossi's architectural thought and the architecture come from 'emergent novelty' on the basis of his two books, A Scientific Autobiography and Architecture of the City. Also this paper discusses qualitative aspects rather than visual aspects. The main concepts of emergent novelty are applied to Aldo Rossi's works and his thought. Finally this paper verifies 'the hypothesis' through revealing what Aldo Rossi means by the quality of suspension, the sense of deposition, and idea of the unfinished(repetition). Rossi's work is not textural reference of representation appearing after blocking, but qualitative reference of non-representation.

  • This paper investigates the effects of non-normality on the performance of univariate and multivariate cumulative sum(CUSUM) control charts for monitoring the process mean. In-control and out-of-control average run lengths of the charts are examined for the univariate/multivariate lognormal and t distributions. The effects of the reference value and the correlation coefficient under the non-normal distributions are also studied. Simulation results show that the CUSUM charts with small reference values are robust to non-normality but those with moderate or large reference values are sensitive to non-normal data especially to process data from skewed distributions. The performance of the chart to detect mean shift of a process is not invariant to the direction of the shift for skewed distributions.

  • In order to enhance receive sensitivity in noisy environment, the previous initial synchronization method of GPS receiver for reference stations adopts not only the coherent integration method but also the non-coherent integration method. However, the previous GPS initial synchronization method causes the non-coherent integration loss, which is a dominant factor among the signal acquisition losses in noisy environment. And the non-coherent integration loss increases with the strength of noise signal. In this pa-per, a GPS initial synchronization method is proposed to enhance receive sensitivity of GPS receiver for reference stations in noisy environment. This paper presents that the proposed GPS initial synchronization method suppresses the non-coherent integration loss. Furthermore, with regard to the mean acquisition time, it is shown that the number of the search cells of the proposed GPS initial synchronization method is much fewer than that of the previous GPS initial synchronization method.

  • This study was designed to identify the information sources of reference used by male college students. Theoretical framework is based upon social comparison theory, reference group theory, and Kotler's model of personal and non-personal sources of reference. The subjects were 287 male college students. The questionnaire were distributed to the school area and the commercial area such as Shinchon, Myung-Dong, and Apkujung-Dong in Seoul. Means, standard deviation, frequency, T-test, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan's multiple range test were applied for the analyses of data. The result of hyporthesis 1 showed that male college student utilize personal and non-personal sources of reference indiscriminately. The result of hypothesis 2 showed that male college students consult the socially high-proximal group such as a girl friend(a lover) and mother most actively. The result of hypothesis 3 found that male college students use position media most actively, especially in-store displays, followed by print media and broadcast media.

  • To investigate relevance of the definition of the reference stress to estimate J and $C^{*}$ for surface crack problems, this paper compares FE J and $C^{*}$ results for surface cracked pipes with those estimated according to the reference stress approach using various definitions of the reference stress. Pipes with part circumferential inner surface crack and finite internal axial crack are considered, subject to internal pressure and global bending. The crack depth and aspect ratio are systematically varied. The reference stress is defined in four different ways using (i) the local limit load, (ii) the global limit load, (iii) the global limit load determined from the FE limit analysis, and (iv) the optimized reference load. It is found that the reference stress based on the local limit load gives overall excessively conservative estimates of J and $^{*}$. Use of the global limit load clearly reduces the conservatism, compared to that of the local limit load, although it can provide sometimes non-conservative estimates of J and $^{*}$. The use of the FE global limit load gives overall non-conservative estimates of J and $^{*}$. The reference stress based on the optimised reference load gives overall accurate estimates of J and $^{*}$, compared to other definitions of the reference stress. Based on the present finding, general guidance on the choice of the reference stress for surface crack problems is given.

  • In this Paper. a non-linear approach to a design of model reference adaptive control is presented. The approach is demonstrated by a case study of a simple single-pole and no zero, linear, discrete-time plant. The essence of the idea is to generate a full non-linear model of the plant dynamics and the parameter adaptation dynamics as a gradient descent algorithm with respect to a Riemannian metric. It is shown how a Riemannian metric can be chosen so that the modelled plant dynamics do in fact match the true plant dynamics. The performance of the proposed scheme is compared to a traditional model reference adaptive control scheme using the classical sensitivity derivatives (Euclidean gradients) for the descent algorithm.

  • Counterfeiting is a fast growing market worldwide. The purposes of this study were to examine adolescents' attitudes toward counterfeits, their ethical beliefs, and reference group influence on purchasing counterfeits. Two hundred thirteen high school students in Seoul and subside, South Korea, voluntarily participated in the study. As the results, approximately 30% of the adolescents had purchased counterfeits. Also, the adolescent buyers of counterfeits tended to purchase counterfeit goods as more alternative of genuine products than non-buyers, and did have more positive feeling toward counterfeits than non-buyers of counterfeits. In addition, adolescent buyers of counterfeits had lower consumer ethics than non-buyers. Finally, adolescents who have purchased counterfeits were more influenced by their peer group than those who have not. The findings would benefit marketers and educators in understanding of adolescents' purchasing counterfeit products, and contribute to develop strategies regarding counterfeits. Based on these results, some strategies for marketers and educators would be suggested.
