Renewable energy resources such as wind and photovoltaic power generation systems demand a high step-up DC-DC converters to convert the low voltage to commercial grid voltage. However, the high step-up converter using a transformer has limitations of high voltage stresses of switches and diodes when the transformer winding ratio increases. Accordingly, conventional studies have been applied to series-connect multioutput converters such as forward-flyback and switched-capacitor flyback to reduce the transformer winding ratio. This paper proposes new single-ended converter topologies of an isolation type and a non-isolation type to improve power efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and output ripple. The first proposal is an isolation-type charge-pump switched-capacitor flyback converter that includes an extreme-ratio isolation switched-capacitor cell with a chargepump circuit. It reduces the transformer winding number and the output ripple, and further improves power efficiency without any cost increase. The next proposal is a non-isolation charge-pump switched-capacitor-flyback tapped-inductor boost converter, which adds a charge-pump-connected flyback circuit to the conventional switched-capacitor boost converter to improve the power efficiency and to reduce the efficiency degradation from the input variation. In this paper, the operation principle of the proposed scheme is presented with the experimental results of the 100 W DC-DC converter for verification.
Strict anaerobic procedures and anaerobic chamber were employed in order to improve the isolation of obligate anaerobes from oral pyogenic infections. Also different culture media were utilized to maximize bacterial recovery. Two blood media: nalidixic acid Tween blood agar (NATB) and plain blood agar (BA), two non-blood media: nalidixic acid Tween agar (NAT) and Gifu anaerobic medium (GAM) were used and compared for their isolation efficacy. Specimens from seven patients were collected with syringe. After collection, the needle was sealed with sterilixed silicone rubber and brought to labortory. The time spent from specimen collection to its processing in anaerobic chamber usually was 15 min. Identification of isolated bacterial strains was done with the API-20A system. Increase in isolation of anaerobic vacteria was achieved. Obligate anaerobic bacteria isolated were 3.3 strains per specimen. This figure falls within the range of 1.9-4.4 strains per specimen reported in other countries. With respect to the media utilized, blood media were superior to non-blood media. NATB medium was effective especially for the isolation of Gram-positive cocci. A total of 15 species of Gram-negative rods was isolated and 12 of them belonged to Bacteroides.
Seismic isolation is a well-known method to mitigate the earthquake effects on structures by increasing their fundamental natural periods at the expense of larger displacements in the structural system. In this paper, the seismic response of isolated and fixed base vertical, cylindrical, liquid storage tanks is investigated using a Finite Element Model (FEM), taking into account fluid-structure interaction effects. Three vertical, cylindrical tanks with different ratios of height to radius (H/R = 2.6, 1.0 and 0.3) are numerically analyzed and the results of response-history analysis, including base shear, overturning moment and free surface displacement are reported for isolated and non-isolated tanks. Isolated tanks equipped by lead rubber bearings isolators and the bearing are modeled by using a non-linear spring in FEM model. It is observed that the seismic isolation of liquid storage tanks is quite effective and the response of isolated tanks is significantly influenced by the system parameters such as their fundamental frequencies and the aspect ratio of the tanks. However, the base isolation does not significantly affect the surface wave height and even it can causes adverse effects on the free surface sloshing motion.

The seismic performance evaluation and retrofit process are very important in old existing bridges. If the result is not appropriate. then a retrofit process are required. Among various retrofit methods, the seismic isolation is a very useful method. because it can be applied by replacing old bridge bearings. In this study, the effectiveness of seismic isolation is rationally verified. For this purpose, two seismic isolations used widely are selected and non-linear static and dynamic analyses are performed. The responses of existing bridges are compared with those of retrofited bridges by seismic isolation bridge for earthquake of target level. and seismic performances are evaluated.
This paper presents the investigation of the stochastic responses of seismically isolated bridges subjected to spatially varying earthquake ground motions including incoherence, wave-passage and site-response effects. The incoherence effect is examined by considering Harichandran and Vanmarcke coherency model. The effect of the wave-passage is dealt with various wave velocities in the response analysis. Homogeneous firm, medium and soft soil conditions are selected for considering the site-response effect where the bridge supports are constructed. The ground motion is described by filtered white noise and applied to each support points. For seismic isolation of the bridge, single and double concave friction pendulum bearings are used. Due to presence of friction on the concave surfaces of the isolation systems, the equation of motion of is non-linear. The non-linear equation of motion is solved by using equivalent linearization technique of non-linear stochastic analyses. Solutions obtained from the stochastic analyses of non-isolated and isolated bridges to spatially varying earthquake ground motions compared with each other for the special cases of the ground motion model. It is concluded that friction pendulum systems having single and double concave surfaces have important effects on the stochastic responses of bridges to spatially varying earthquake ground motions.
Due to the aging, advancement, and complexity of chemical facilities, non-routine work such as facility inspection, repair, or maintenance work is increasing. Of the 1,483 accidents that occurred over the past 10 years at chemical product manufacturing sites subject to PSM, accidents that occurred during non-routine work accounted for 56% (932 Cases) of the total. It can be seen that more accidents occur during non-routine work than during routine work. In particular, in order to improve the economy and efficiency of factory operation, there are cases where some facilities are stopped without stopping the entire factory and then inspection, repair, or maintenance work is performed while isolated from the operating facilities. Therefore, first, a safe isolation method must be selected by establishing an isolation standard (Baseline Isolation Standard) based on the chemicals handled, operating conditions, and risk level of the equipment in the chemical plant. Second, since current domestic laws and standards do not suggest the need for specific quarantine standards, it is necessary to institutionalize the preparation of quarantine standards. Technical and institutional improvements are needed to prevent fires, explosions, and poisoning accidents caused by leaks of chemical substances.
The purpose of this study was in a pandemic situation caused by COVID-19 to explore the online distance experiments and interaction of engineering freshmen, and to identify practical difficulties, resulting in to derive implications. Seven freshmen from engineering college participated in the interview, of which data were analyzed based on phenomenological analysis methods. The types of non-face-to-face experiments experienced by students were complete non-face-to-face experiment, mixed face-to-face experiment, and fusion face-to-face experiment. Students were completely isolated in time and space in complete non-face-to-face experiment. In biweekly mixed face-to-face experiment, isolation was halved. In fusion face-to-face experiment, isolation was removed. Non-face-to-face interactions can be characterized by restrictions on simultaneous activities, on rapport formation, and on observation opportunities. Based on these results, three implications were derived: First, it is necessary to allow students to manage time and space constraints on their own in non-face-to-face experiments. Second, support is needed to solve the difficulty of forming rapport, which is a characteristic of non-face-to-face interaction. Third, an opportunity to observe the interaction between other students and professors should be provided.

The new seismic isolation system (StLRB) is developed, which can separate non-seismic displacements which come from the thermal expansion etc. in LRB design. The StLRB has 3 components, sliding system (PTFE + stainless plate), LRB (lead rubber bearing) and STU (shock transmit units). In this project, the StLRB is designed to apply to the bridge structure by analyzing the characteristics of each component and also the dynamic behavior of the structure was analyzed by non-linear analysis. The verification test was performed to show the two stages separated by STU units. Test results show the effectiveness of both the separation and the seismic isolation performance.
Chicken bone is not adequately utilized despite its high nutritional value and protein content. Although not a common raw material, chicken bone can be used in many different ways besides manufacturing of collagen products. In this study, a multi-step procedure was optimized to isolate chicken bone collagen for higher yield and quality for manufacture of collagen products. The chemical composition of chicken bone was 2.9% nitrogen corresponding to about 15.6% protein, 9.5% fat, 14.7% mineral and 57.5% moisture. The lowest amount of protein loss was aimed along with the separation of the highest amount of visible impurities, non-collagen proteins, minerals and fats. Treatments under optimum conditions removed 57.1% of fats and 87.5% of minerals with respect to their initial concentrations. Meanwhile, 18.6% of protein and 14.9% of hydroxyproline were lost, suggesting that a selective separation of non-collagen components and isolation of collagen were achieved. A significant part of impurities were selectively removed and over 80% of the original collagen was preserved during the treatments.

In the shallow trench isolation(STI)-chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) process, the key issues are the optimized thickness control, within-wafer-non-uniformity, and the possible defects such as pad oxide damage and nitride residue. The defect like nitride residue and silicon (or pad oxide) damage after STI-CMP process were discussed to accomplish its optimum process condition. To understand its optimum process condition, overall STI related processes including reverse moat etch, trench etch, STI fill and STI-CMP were discussed. Consequently, we could conclude that law trench depth and high CMP thickness can cause nitride residue, and high trench depth and over-polishing can cause silicon damage.
