The participation rate of volunteering was frequently analyzed, and the difference in participation in volunteer according to the factors was Chi-square analysis and One-way variance analysis. A polynomial regression analysis was conducted to identify the effect factors of participation in volunteering. As a results. 3.9% of older adults are volunteering and 11.5% are experienced in the past. Participation in volunteer activity differed significantly depending on age, education level, economic level, subjective health, body function, ability use information and communication devices, social networks, frequency of face-to-face contact and frequency of non face contact. In the regression analysis, utilization of communication and device, social networking, face to face contact frequency were show to be the effect factors. In order to promote elderly's participation in volunteer activities, consideration of related resources reported in prior studies, social relations, frequency of face-to-face contact and ability to use information and communication devices is considered important.
Purpose: This study was to examine the effect of a taping therapy on pain relief and the improvement of daily living for elderly having degenerative knee arthritis. Method: This study was conducted with a non-equivalent control-group pre-test and post-test design. Data were collected conveniently with 63 elderly who had having(a) pain due to degenerative knee arthritis, and (b) inconvenience in daily life(30 for an experimental group and 33 for a control group). The subjects were recruited from the elderly, participating in welfare programs held in a welfare organization and day-care facilities. The experimental group received an intervention of taping therapy offered twice a week, for 4 weeks. The data collection from the experimental group was done from the beginning of the therapy throughout two weeks later after the end of the therapy. Results: For the experimental group, pain scores came to more decreased significantly, as the periods in which taping therapy was conducted were getting longer. Physical function scores became also more decreased at significantly level, as taping therapy was more conducted. However, compared to the control group, the score change for the experimental was not significantly showed in physical function after the therapy ended. That is, there was no longer-lasting effect on physical function improvement. Conclusion: This study found that this therapy could be a useful self-management method that the elderly with degenerative knee arthritis can use easily at home. Because of insignificant result in longer-lasting effect, this taping therapy would be applied properly with the interval of 2~3days.

Methods: The intervention in this study was systematically developed through the six stages of Intervention Mapping Protocol (IMP) and was based on Mead's symbolic interaction theory and Bandura's self efficacy theory. A non equivalent control group pre and post-test design was conducted on a total of 37 elderly people (experimental group: 19, control group: 18) from D city. The oral care program was administered to the experimental group once a week for five weeks, totaling five times, and the exact program ran for 50 minutes. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 25.0 program. Results: Following the intervention, subjective oral health score, and swallowing related quality of life were significantly improved in the experimental group. Conclusion: The oral care program presented in this study was found to be effective in increasing subjective oral health status, and swallowing related quality of life for the elderly using welfare centers.
This study aimed to validate the Awareness of Age-Related Change (AARC) scale developed by Brothers et al. (2019) for the Korean elderly. This study took the elderly people in Seoul (over 65 years old) as participants to examine the aging perception of the elderly themselves. For this purpose, we conducted exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA, CFA) with two samples (sample 1: N = 185; sample 2: N = 215). EFA revealed and CFA confirmed a two-factor structure consisting of awareness of gains and awareness of losses. Specifically, the awareness of losses had two subfactors consisting of awareness of losses in health and awareness of losses in non-health, while the awareness of gains had no subfactor. Finally, we examined the relationship between AARC, attitudes toward own aging, and emotions then discussed the implication, limitations of this study, and future direction.

This study investigated factors that are associated with companion animal ownership among urban elderly persons. This study was based on data from 2014 Seoul Survey, and a total of 4,717 people aged 60 years or older were selected for the analyses. Community level data were from 2014 Seoul statistics and they included park area per person, number of elderly recreational facilities, and number of public sports facilities based on 25 districts of Seoul Metropolitan City. This study examined differences between companion animal owners and non-owners concerning individual level factors and community level factors. Factors that are associated with companion animal ownership were examined using multilevel logistic regression analysis. Among individual level variables, companion animal ownership was associated with gender, marital status, income, number of household members, and housing type. Among community level variables, park area per person was a significant factor that is associated with companion animal ownership. Study findings can be used Based on study findings, implications of the study and directions for future research are discussed.
Care of people with severe disabilities requires care throughout their life cycle compared to non-disabled families. For this reason, carers of severely handicapped families are highly likely to have negative feelings throughout the family as well as daily stress. Disabled families also have a high rate of experiencing difficulties between non-disabled children or married couples in life centered on the disabled. In particular, the rapid aging in Korea affects the lives of the elderly disabilities along with the aging of the caregivers. The study explored alternatives to realistic support through the past and present experiences of caregivers with disabilities through qualitative research methods, and derived hopes and expectations for the future as follows.First, after confirming the disability for infants and toddlers with disabilities, information about the support system or system is provided from the rating agency. Second, providing "customized care support" suitable for the type of disability or individual characteristics at the social, political, institutional, and economic levels. Third, the provision of programs for non-disabled children and the provision of healing programs only for families with disabilities or those with disabilities. Fourth, the provision of spaces and programs that provide rest and rest for adults with disabilities. Fifth, the application of a long-term care system for the elderly reflecting the aging age of the disabled and institutionalization of community care for the disabled. The research is meaningful in that it presents discussion points for improving the quality of life of adults and the elderly with disabilities.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine factors associated with the self-rated health status of the elderly and whether these factors were different from younger adults. Methods: An interview survey was conducted on non-institutionalized adults in Wonju City, Korea. Determinants of self-rated health status were identified and compared between individuals aged 19 to 64 years and those aged 65 years and over, using an ordered logistic regression conducted separately on these two groups. Participants were 1,685 younger adults and 188 elderly people. Self-rated health status was measured along a continuous scale from 0 to 100 (0 for the worst and 100 for the best they could imagine) and then binned into 11 categories. Results: Self-rated health status of the elderly in Wonju was associated with household income, education, bereavement, adequate sleep, daily and social life being affected by poor health status, mobility, and anxiety and depression. Household income, adequate sleep, and participation in social activities were significant only in the elderly, while some factors associated with the self-rated health status of younger adults, such as rural dwelling, regular exercise, living alone, and skipping breakfast were not significant in the elderly. Conclusion: In order to improve the health of the elderly in Wonju City, it would be necessary to develop programs addressing those specific needs of the elderly and to integrate them effectively in the Healthy City projects.
Background: This paper describes the relationship and effect of health examination on personal medical cost by identifying the difference of the cost for medical care in physician visit between the population without and with health examination. Methods: After classifying into three cohorts in which, independent variables were designed according to the Andersen's behavioral model, the association of personal medical cost for medical care and prescription drugs which is dependent variable was analyzed by t-test and Mann-Whitney test for description and gamma regression model for inference. Results: In personal average medical cost, the population with health examination paid significantly more than without health examination, 11.6% more in cohort 2008, 26.6% more in cohort 2009, and 48.0% more in combined cohort. The odds ratio on medical expenditure of outpatients with health examination was 1.067, 1.126, 1.398 significantly in cohort 2008, 2009, and combined cohort respectively, comparing to the group without health examination. In independent variables, that is female, the elderly, never married, non-working, non-metropolitan, the higher family income, the smaller family size, people with disability, the people with chronic disease, and people with health examination have significantly being paid more tendency showing positive association with medical cost. Conclusion: This result showed that medical expenditure in physician visit has been increased after taking a health examination. Therefore reasonable limitation of getting preventive medical service is suggested to avoid medical shopping around and reduce being repeated health examination by unifying control to find out easily the clinical results from various medical facilities.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of the ICPP on cognitive function, level of depression, and quality of life of older adults. Methods: This study follows a pretest-posttest, non-equivalent control group, quasi-experimental design. The subjects of this study were elderly people aged 65 years or older registered at comprehensive social welfare centers. A total of 42 participants took part: 21 in the control group and 21 in the experimental group. Data collection was conducted between September 18, 2017 and November 2, 2017. The ICPP was conducted for the experimental group for 6 weeks as a group program (3-4 times a week, for a total of 20 sessions). The control group underwent a simple exercise program for 6 weeks (once a week, for a total of 6 sessions). Results: The experimental group showed significant improvement in their cognitive function, level of depression, and quality of life. Conclusion: These results suggest that the ICPP helps improve cognitive function, alleviates depression, and increases quality of life, and is expected to be an effective nursing intervention for older adults.
Purpose: This study aimed to describe a non-face-to-face dementia prevention and physical activity program in small rural villages during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The study used a case report provided by a primary healthcare post in Gyeonggi-do in 2020. Results: The program was "From head to toe, stay healthy", which was largely divided into dementia prevention ("Dementia Zero Zone") and physical activity ("The less fat, The healthier body"). Five elderly people aged 75 and over participated for preventing dementia, and 13 residents joined the health promoting programs over 80 times in total. This program was designed one-to-one customized and person-centered program, including counseling, education, and health services. The program participants responded that the amount of physical activities was increased even under strict social distancing and they felt less isolated and less depressed. Moreover, the number of screening for dementia was increased with this program. Conclusion: This case has shown the applicability of a new approach to sustain health promotion programs in the context of limited interaction with rural nurses. Under the challenging environment that requires adaptation to information and communication technologies (ICTs), it will be necessary to solve not only technical problems but also digital literacy issues of rural residents.
