This study aims to develop an improved Feldkamp-Davis-Kress (FDK) reconstruction algorithm using anisotropic total variation (ATV) minimization to enhance the image quality of low-dose cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). The algorithm first applies a filter that integrates the Shepp-Logan filter into a cosine window function on all projections for impulse noise removal. A total variation objective function with anisotropic penalty is then minimized to enhance the difference between the real structure and noise using the steepest gradient descent optimization with adaptive step sizes. The preserving parameter to adjust the separation between the noise-free and noisy areas is determined by calculating the cumulative distribution function of the gradient magnitude of the filtered image obtained by the application of the filtering operation on each projection. With these minimized ATV projections, voxel-driven backprojection is finally performed to generate the reconstructed images. The performance of the proposed algorithm was evaluated with the catphan503 phantom dataset acquired with the use of a low-dose protocol. Qualitative and quantitative analyses showed that the proposed ATV minimization provides enhanced CBCT reconstruction images compared with those generated by the conventional FDK algorithm, with a higher contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), lower root-mean-square-error, and higher correlation. The proposed algorithm not only leads to a potential imaging dose reduction in repeated CBCT scans via lower mA levels, but also elicits high CNR values by removing noisy corrupted areas and by avoiding the heavy penalization of striking features.

This paper introduces a novel modulation scheme for vehicular communication in taking advantage of existing LED lights available on a car. Our proposed 2-Phase Shift Keying (2-PSK) is a spatial modulation approach in which a pair of LED light sources in a car (either rear LEDs or front LEDs) is used as a transmitter. A typical camera (i.e. low frame rate at no greater than 30fps) that either a global shutter camera or a rolling shutter camera can be used as a receiver. The modulation scheme is a part of our Image Sensor Communication proposal submitted to IEEE 802.15.7r1 (TG7r1) recently. Also, a neural network approach is applied to improve the performance of LEDs detection and decoding under the noisy situation. Later, some analysis and experiment results are presented to indicate the performance of our system

Noise removal methods for noisy images have been studied a lot in the domain of spatial and transform filtering. Low pass filtering was initially applied in the spatial domain. Recently, discrete wavelet transform has widely used for image denoising as well as image compression due to an excellent energy compaction and a property of multiresolution. In this paper, Gabor cosine and sine transform which is considered as human visual filter is applied to image denoising areas using soft thresholding technique. GCST is compared with excellent wavelet transform which uses existing soft thresholding methods from PSNR point of view. Resultant images removed noises are also visually compared. Experimental results with adding four different standard deviation levels of Gaussian distributed noises to real images show that the proposed transform has better PSNR performance of a maximum of 1.18 dB and visible perception than wavelet transform.

This paper presents the fuzzy minutiae-based matching to improve the accuracy of the difference between template and imput fingerprint image. Minutiae-based matching method is the most well-known and widely used method for fingerprint matching. However, fingerprint pressure, dryness of the skin, skin disease, sweat, dirt, grease, and humidity in the air cause the noisy fingerprint images and the distortion is produced by users moving their fingers on the scanner surface. The input image may be rejected from the Fingerprint Recognition System, because the distorted fingerprint image is very different from the original image. Large tolerence boxes and fuzzy discriminant function is required to improve the accuracy.

Image processing is being spotlighted as an important sector with increasingly diverse applications as the society advances into a sophisticated digital information age. Especially, the image restoration as the core technology of image processing, many studies are being progressed. In this paper, in order to restore the damaged image in the Salt and Pepper noisy environment, a modified adaptive switching median filter where the size of local mask can be varied according to the noise density was proposed. And using the PSNR as the standard for objective decision making of the improvement effect, it was compared with the existing methods.

Numerous spatial and transform-domain-based conventional denoising algorithms struggle to keep critical and minute structural features of the image, especially at high noise levels. Although neural network approaches are effective, they are not always reliable since they demand a large quantity of training data, are computationally complicated, and take a long time to construct the model. A new framework of enhanced hybrid filtering is developed for denoising color images tainted by additive white Gaussian Noise with the goal of reducing algorithmic complexity and improving performance. In the first stage of the proposed approach, the noisy image is refined using a high-dimensional non-local means filter based on Principal Component Analysis, followed by the extraction of the method noise. The wavelet transform and SURE Shrink techniques are used to further culture this method noise. The final denoised image is created by combining the results of these two steps. Experiments were carried out on a set of standard color images corrupted by Gaussian noise with multiple standard deviations. Comparative analysis of empirical outcome indicates that the proposed method outperforms leading-edge denoising strategies in terms of consistency and performance while maintaining the visual quality. This algorithm ensures homogeneous noise reduction, which is almost independent of noise variations. The power of both the spatial and transform domains is harnessed in this multi realm consolidation technique. Rather than processing individual colors, it works directly on the multispectral image. Uses minimal resources and produces superior quality output in the optimal execution time.

autoencoder deep learning model has excellent ability to restore abnormal data to normal data, so it is not appropriate for anomaly detection. In addition, the Inpainting method, which is a method of restoring hidden data after masking (masking) a part of the data, has a problem in that the restoring ability is poor for noisy images. In this paper, we use a method of modifying and improving the MLP-Mixer model to mask the image at a certain ratio and to reconstruct the image by delivering compressed information of the masked image to the model. After constructing a model learned with normal data from the MVTec AD dataset, a reconstruction error was obtained by inputting normal and abnormal images, respectively, and anomaly detection was performed through this. As a result of the performance evaluation, it was found that the proposed method has superior anomaly detection performance compared to the existing method.

Due to the lack of improper image acquisition process, noise induction is an inevitable step. As a result, objective image quality assessment (IQA) plays an important role in estimating the visual quality of noisy image. Plenty of IQA methods have been proposed including traditional signal processing based methods as well as current deep learning based methods where the later one shows promising performance due to their complex representation ability. The deep learning based methods consists of several convolution layers and down sampling layers for feature extraction and fully connected layers for regression. Usually, the down sampling is performed by using max-pooling layer after each convolutional block. We reveal that this max-pooling causes information loss despite of knowing their importance. Consequently, we propose a better IQA method that replaces the max-pooling layers with strided convolutions to down sample the feature space and since the strided convolution layers have learnable parameters, they preserve optimal features and discard redundant information, thereby improve the prediction accuracy. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Brain tumors are one of the most threatening malignancies for humans. Misdiagnosis of brain tumors can result in false medical intervention, which ultimately reduces a patient's chance of survival. Manual identification and segmentation of brain tumors from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans can be difficult and error-prone because of the great range of tumor tissues that exist in various individuals and the similarity of normal tissues. To overcome this limitation, the Amended Convolutional Neural Network (ACNN) model has been introduced, a unique combination of three techniques that have not been previously explored for brain tumor detection. The three techniques integrated into the ACNN model are image tissue preprocessing using the Kalman Bucy Smoothing Filter to remove noisy pixels from the input, image tissue segmentation using the Isotonic Regressive Image Tissue Segmentation Process, and feature extraction using the Marr Wavelet Transformation. The extracted features are compared with the testing features using a sigmoid activation function in the output layer. The experimental findings show that the suggested model outperforms existing techniques concerning accuracy, precision, sensitivity, dice score, Jaccard index, specificity, Positive Predictive Value, Hausdorff distance, recall, and F1 score. The proposed ACNN model achieved a maximum accuracy of 98.8%, which is higher than other existing models, according to the experimental results.

The proposed algorithm consists of two stages: the learning and synthesis stages. At the learning stage, we first collect various high-resolution (HR)-low-resolution (LR) text image pairs, and quantize the LR images, and extract HR-LR block pairs. Based on quantized LR blocks, the LR-HR block pairs are clustered into a pre-determined number of classes. For each class, an optimal 2D-FIR filter is computed, and it is stored into a dictionary with the corresponding LR block for indexing. At the synthesis stage, each quantized LR block in an input LR image is compared with every LR block in the dictionary, and the FIR filter of the best-matched LR block is selected. Finally, a HR block is synthesized with the chosen filter, and a final HR image is produced. Also, in order to cope with noisy environment, we generate multiple dictionaries according to noise level at the learning stage. So, the dictionary corresponding to the noise level of the input image is chosen, and a final HR image is produced using the selected dictionary. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the previous works for noisy images as well as noise-free images.
