  • Recently, mega-float offshore structure is studied as one of the effective utilization of the ocean space. And mega-float structure are now being considered for various applications such as floating airports, offshore cities and so on. This mega-float structure is relatively flexible compared with real floating structures like large ships. when we estimate dynamic responses of these structures in waves, the elastic deformation is important, because vertical dimension is small compared with horizontal. The analysis of the dynamic response as it receives regular wave is studied. The finite element method is used in the analysis of structural section of this model. And the analysis is carried out using the boundary element method in the fluid division. In order to know the characteristics of the dynamic response of the mega-float structures, effects of wavelength, water depth, and wave direction on dynamic response of the floating structure are studied by use of numerical calculation.

  • This research demonstrates the shock response analysis of a head disk assembly subjected to a half-sine shock pulse in the axial direction. In case of disk analysis, the numerical method presented by Barasch and Chen is used. Galerkin method is used with mode shape by numerical method. Head-suspension system is modeled as the cantilever in order to get simulation results. Simulation results of HDA are calculated by Runge-Kutta method. Finally, shock responses of head and disk are analyzed according to the change of the rotating speed of the disk.

  • Servo performance of a disk drive is greatly affected by the mechanical resonance frequencies of the head gimbal assembly(HGA). It is important (actor to allow broader bandwidth for servo system in improving overall drive performance. In this paper, an optimal design for ODD suspension is attempted to increase resonance frequencies. It was decided that the first resonant frequency in tracking direction was higher than 5㎑. • Basic equations and its solution procedure are derived for the analysis of an annular pump seal in which the rotor has a large static displacement from the centered position. The Bulk-flow is assumed for a control volume set in the seal clearance and the flow is assumed to be completely turbulent in axial and circumferential direction. Moody's wall-friction-factor formula is used for the calculation of wall shear stresses in the control volume. For the reaction force developed by the seal, linearized zeroth-order and first-order perturbation equations are developed for small motion about an eccentric position. Flow variables are expanded by using Fourier series for the solution procedure. Integration of the resultant first-order pressure distribution along and around the seal defines the 12 elements of rotordynamic coefficients of the eccentric annular pump seal. The results of leakage and rotordynamic coefficients are presented and compared with the Marquette's experimental results and the San Andres' theoretical analysis.

  • To provide faster service and to relief the road traffic jam, the increase of service speed of conventional railway has been intensively considered. In this study, we measured and analyzed the vibration ride comfort of Saemaeul Train to evaluate the feasibility of 5km/h speed-up in curves and l0km/h speed-up on straight tracks. Four main lines, such as Honam, Kyungboo, ]anghang, Kyungjeon were chosen as representative lines for speed-up feasibility study. The increase of mean ride comfort index in case of speed-up is 0.5-2㏈. The mean ride comfort index of vertical direction in case of speed-up is 107 ∼110 ㏈ for Honam line, 104 ∼112 ㏈ for Kyungboo line, 108∼112 ㏈ for Janghang line and 105∼108 ㏈ for Kyungjeon line. Through this study, we found that the Saemaul Express has slight margin to increase the service speed from the view point of vibration ride comfort.

  • The theoretical method is developed to Investigate the nitration characteristics of the combined cylindrical shells with an annular plate joined to the shell at any arbitrary axial position. The structural coupling between shell and plate is simulated using two types of artificial springs a translational spring is introduced for translational coupling and a rotational spring is used for rotational coupling. The springs are continuously distributed along circumferential direction. Using the Rayleigh-Ritz method the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the combined shell with an annular plate examine. The effect of Inner-to-outer radius ratio, axial position of annular plate and length-to-radius ratio of shell on vibration characteristics of combined cylindrical shells is studied. The theoretical results are verified by comparison with FEM results.

  • Microphone array beamforming method has been recognized as an important aeroacoustic research field and become a standard technique in localizing sound sources. This method also used in flight acoustic measurement, and especially, it is very useful when measure sounds inside the wind tunnel. In measuring sound which is inside the wind tunnel by traditional beamforming method, there are some errors caused by airstream. The speed and the propagation path of the sound changes as it travel through the airstream. This makes the error which the position of sound is changed a little bit to the down stream direction. In this paper, validation test has made about the correction equation for this wind effects of previous researches. And beamforming including shear layer correction was performed about a sound source in the anechoic open-jet wind tunnel.

  • An 1-bit DPCM image coding method is presented. Our method is specially designed to reduce the slope overload which seems to be the major performance degradation factor in 1-bit DPCM. In the present algorithm, based on the classification of neighborhoods by its flatness, slope strength and direction, predictor and quantizer operate adaptively through switching action. Compared with some other methods by computer simulation, proposed method shows improved performance in image quality as well as in signal to noise ratio. This gain mainly comes from the reduced slope overload and seems large to compensate the increased complexity in prediction. As a post processing, Lee filter is used to reduce the granular noise subjectively annoying in flat region.

  • A theoretical method is presented to investigate the thermoelastic and dynamic response of functionally graded material (FGM) rectangular plates made up of metal and ceramic. The temperature is assumed to be constant in the plane of the plate and to vary in the thickness direction only. Material properties are assumed to be temperature-dependant, and vary continuously through the thickness according to a power law distribution in terms of the volume fraction of the constituents. The third order shear deformation theory (TSDT) to account for rotary inertia and transverse shear strains is adopted to formulate the theoretical model. The modal analysis technique is used to develop the analytic solutions of the dynamic problem. The effect of material compositions and temperature fields is examined. The present theoretical results are verified by comparing with those from finite element analysis by ANSYS.

  • Two-phase BLDC(brushless DC) motor has larger torque ripple than three-phase BLDC motor because of its unique skeleton-type structure. An electronic switching mechanism to change the current-direction of the BLDC motor can be a source of vibration as well as unbalanced rotor weight. A proper switching timing which makes less vibrations was considered by changing the position of sensing element around the center of rotation. Also, the current of the motor was measured for the calculation of the motor efficiency. From the vibration test results and with the consideration of the motor efficiency, an optimal switching position of the Hall sensor was found.
