  • All chemical processes are centered in the chemical reactor. Chemical reactions are often accompanied by mixing. Mixing can influence not just reaction rate but also product distribution if more than one product is possible. So, reactor agitator is more critical in industrial reactions. High vibration was occurred on reactor agitator which is critical equipment in HDPE plant. This paper describes analysis and diagnosis for agitator vibration throughout some tests. High vibration has been occurred by misalignment and resonance. Through the correction it could be stable.

  • Hidden Markov Model(HMM) has a doubly embedded stochastic process with an underlying stochastic process that can be observed through another set of stochastic processes. This structure of HMM is useful for modeling vector sequence that doesn't look like a stochastic process but has a hidden stochastic process. So, HMM approach has become popular in various areas in last decade. The increasing popularity of HMM is based on two facts : rich mathematical structure and proven accuracy on critical application. In this paper, we applied continuous HMM (CHMM) approach with AR coefficient to detect and predict the chatter of lathe bite and to diagnose the wear of oil Journal bearing using rotor shaft displacement. Our examples show that CHMM approach is very efficient method for machine health monitoring and prediction.

  • In this paper. the correlation among vibration. wear and temperature are experimentally investigated when rubbing is caused by static and dynamic forces. Each measurement reflects the characteristics of the system and is useful in detecting and diagnosing the current status of rotating machinery. For experiment, the rotor system with lubricating equipment such as trochoid pump, oil tank and wear detecting sensor is implemented to simulate the rubbing condition. Experimental results show that significant change in wear quantity can be notified when vibration signal is changed by rubbing. The results can be applied to system monitoring and fault diagnosis in rotating machinery.

  • The Nuclear Steam Supply System(NSSS) is designed to provide an integrated approach that includes areas of monitoring relevant to the integrity of the NSSS. LPMS is designed to function as an alarm system by providing sensor channel alarms for the associated subsystems. LPMS is equipped to provide analysis tools for new alarm events, historical events and for historical periodically stored channel data (e.g. waveforms) for most channels. This paper is intended to introduce the diagnosis principle and abnormal symptom of loose parts monitoring system as a monitoring tool in Nuclear Steam Supply System. And also, we are going to introduce signal analysis program in order to perform the actual diagnosis in power plants.

  • Gear system has been widely used in industrial applications and unexpected failures of gears are not only extremely damaging but also leading to economic losses. So, early detection of fault is important for diagnosis machine condition. And acoustic emission is an efficient non-destructive testing technique fur the diagnosis of machine health and is useful technique far early detection of fault because it can find low-amplitude and high-frequency signal on account of high sensibility. Therefore, in this paper, the AE signal was measured and preprocessed using envelope analysis for gearbox with misalignment between pinion and gear. And then the gear misalignment's vibration characteristic were analyzed.

  • Tongue image segmentation is critical for automation of the tongue diagnosis system. However, most image segmentation methods for tongue diagnosis systems in oriental medicine have been proposed as user-based manual types or semi-automatic types. This study proposed a new method for tongue image segmentation, which is the most important image processing stage for complete automation of the tongue diagnosis system in oriental medicine. The proposed method improved the conventional snake algorithm, by making improvement on the internal energy function so that, as the points move outward reversely, the snake energy function is minimized, by using the image characteristics of tongue images. To calculate external energy, hierarchical spatial filtering is applied to ensure resistance against noise. Also, The proposed method was tested by using sample images and actual images, and showed more robustness against the background noise than the conventional snake algorithm. And, when one selected point was moved by the improved snake algorithm, energy values at the starting, middle, and end points were analyzed, and showed robustness that does not fall in the local minima.

  • The aim of this paper is to describe an advanced method of the fault diagnosis using Control Theory with reference to a crack detection, a new way to localize the crack position under influence of the plant disturbance and white measurement noise on a rotating shaft. As the first step, the shaft is physically modelled with a finite element method as usual and the dynamic mathematical model is derived from it using the Hamilton-principle and in this way the system is modelled by various subsystems. The equations of motions with a crack are established by the adaption of the local stiffness change through breathing and gaping[1] from the crack to the equation of motion with an undamaged shaft. This is supposed to be regarded as a reference system for the given system. Based on the fictitious model of the time behaviour induced from vibration phenomena measured at the bearings, a nonlinear state observer is designed in order to detect the crack on the shaft. This is the elementary NL-observer(EOB). Using the elementary observer, an Estimator(Observer Bank) is established and arranged at the certain position on the shaft. In case, a crack is found and its position is known, the procedure, fro the estimation of the depth is going to begin.

  • In Korea there is no specific method of age adjustment in noise induced hearing loss(NIHL). We attempted the age adjustment to understand the effects of age on the diagnosis of NIHL. We used the International Standard Organization 1999 as an age adjustment method. We used the 1, 617 otologically normal person's hearing data from a health examination center, and 206 workers diagnosed as NIHL. We concluded as follows; 1. The ISO 7029 function used for age specific hearing loss is not suited to Korean people. 2. The mean of age specific hearing loss is 11.0 6.2dB and the older of age, the more decrease on hearing loss, especially in 4000Hz. 3. The difference of NIHL between before age adjustment and after age adjustment in the 3rd decade is 5.4dB, in the 4th decade is 6.7dB, in the 5th decade is 8.5dB, in the 6th decade is 10.4dB, and in the 7th decade is 12.9dB. The older, the more is the difference. 4. After age adjustment, the number of workers diagnosed as NIHL decreases to 60% of unadjusted.

  • With the trend of factory automation, nowadays, much industrial machinery tends to be put into 24-hours operation a day. However, these trends in industrial equipments also increase the possibility of various mechanical problems and bring about innumerable maintenance cost. There is a strong need of the condition monitoring and diagnosis for industrial equipment, especially rotating machinery, since they are connected not only to the reduction in the maintenance costs but also connected to the enhancement of production efficiency. Generally, to evaluate the operating conditions in the machinery in the industrial field, various physical properties are monitored. Among them, vibration and Noise signals are the mist important indicator and it is effectively used in many diagnosis systems for machinery. Much previous research is based in the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) method. The spectral analysis is assumed that the signal is stationary. However, almost random signals are non-stationary. The wavelet transform has been recognized an efficient Method. Most interesting sounds have time-varying features. Signal processing techniques for the analysis of transient sound have been not clearly given yet.
