FPSO Topside의 소음특성 파악 및 저감대책 (A Noise Characteristics and Countermeasures of FPSO Topside)

  • Recently, the demand for the Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading facility (FPSO) which has some economic and technical advantages, has increased in offshore oil production areas. FPSO vessel dose not have self-propulsion system, but has additional facilities for oil production and positioning system. Main noise sources such as gas turbines, compressors, and pumps, are located on top of the hull (Topside area). In general, the noise regulation for the offshore structure is severer than that of the cargo ship and acceptable noise limit of cabin is specified as 45 dB(A). This paper describes the noise characteristics and the countermeasures for FPSO Topside area through investigation of noise analysis and site measurement results. Proper countermeasures, considering the characteristics of sources and receiver spaces, were applied from the noise prediction and various measurement results. Finally, this ship was successfully delivered with excellent noise properties.

  • In general, the essential requirement for cruisers or car ferries is the reduction in noise to ensure high quality and comfort. Recently, the Ro-Ro Passengers Ferry (ROPAX) was built in Hyundai Heavy Industries. In order to minimize the noise levels, careful attention have to De paid by the special committee of experts from the initial design stage to the sea trial. Proper countermeasures, considering the characteristics of sources and receiver spaces, were applied from the noise prediction and various experiment results. Finally, this ship was successfully delivered with excellent noise properties. This paper describes the procedure of noise analysis, the countermeasures of noise control, and the measurement results of the sea trial. Onboard noise analysis had been carried out by statistical energy analysis program and outdoor noise prediction program based on ISO9614. The prediction results are in good agreements with the measurement results. The technology to minimize the noise levels for cruisers or car ferries has been established throughout the construction of this ship.

  • Power transformers, air-intakes, stacks in a combined thermal power plant are the main noise sources. Power transformer noise among them has being get a target of public complaint due to 480Hz component of its pure tone. The source is mainly magnetostrictive vibration of the transformer core. The first countermeasures was installing sound barrier on the front of transformer. However, 500Hz, center of the frequency is not reduced. This paper includes the measurements of noise level at the near resident apartment, the identification of noise transfer and the countermeasures for noise sources. Cavity resonance type of noise reduction devices was installed on enclosuring wall of transformers. As a result, the noise level from transformer is reduced about 3dB.

  • A design process for the structure-borne noise in a passenger vehicle is presented. The proposed process is improved from the previous one. The major difference between the current and last ones is that most of the countermeasures should be developed before fixing a tool for structural parts. This is requested for QCDP(Quality, Cost, Delivery and Productivity) by the design engineers. The proposed one consists of 4 steps: Problem definition, Cause analysis, Development of counter-measure and Validation. Based on the general rule: divide and conquer, the complex problem can be simplified into a few critical sub-systems through the first step: Problem definition. Secondly, the critical causes can be identified for the critical sub-systems through the second step: Cause analysis. Thirdly, effective countermeasures are investigated and produced through the third step: Countermeasure development. The proposed countermeasures are finally validated in the forth step: Validation.

휴대용 카세트 소음의 인간공학적 평가 및 안전대책 (Ergonomic Evaluation and Safety Countermeasures of Personal Cassette Player Noise)

  • Recently, noise from personal cassette players (PCP) poses growing concerns together with occupational noise-induced hearing loss. Eighteen male and female volunteer subjects participated to determine preferred noise levels for PCP usage before, during, and after 2-hour subway riding according to sources (types) of PCP listening (language/news, soft music, and hard music). Audiometric tests were conducted before and after the 2-hour exposure of PCP noise under subway riding. Statistical analyses showed some significant hearing losses with the greatest loss of more than 6 dB at 4000 Hz for both ears, indicating that serious noise-induced hearing loss would potentially occurred due to prolonged use of PCPs. Practical safety countermeasures against PCP noise are further discussed.

The 36,8000 DWT class FPSO was built in Hyundai Heavy Industries and will be installed in Offshore Angola. She dose not have self-propulsion system, but has additional facilities for oil production and positioning system. Main noise sources are contributing to the cabin noise of the accommodation are classified into three classes such as the machinery in the engine room and the deckhouse, HVAC system, and the topside equipments. In general, the noise regulation for the offshore structure is severer than that of the cargo ship and acceptable noise limit of cabin is specified as 45 dB(A). This paper describes the procedure of noise analysis, the countermeasures of noise control, and the measurement results of the quay trial. Differential Power Analysis on Countermeasures Using Binary Signed Digit Representations

  • Side channel attacks are a very serious menace to embedded devices with cryptographic applications. To counteract such attacks many randomization techniques have been proposed. One efficient technique in elliptic curve cryptosystems randomizes addition chains with binary signed digit (BSD) representations of the secret key. However, when such countermeasures have been used alone, most of them have been broken by various simple power analysis attacks. In this paper, we consider combinations which can enhance the security of countermeasures using BSD representations by adding additional countermeasures. First, we propose several ways the improved countermeasures based on BSD representations can be attacked. In an actual statistical power analysis attack, the number of samples plays an important role. Therefore, we estimate the number of samples needed in the proposed attack.

  • When high speed train runs on heavy curvature section of conventional line, squeal noise emitted from the railroad and wheel. This noise is very unpleasant to the near habitant. In this study, the characteristics and the countermeasures of the squeal noise of high speed train running on the conventional line was investigated.

  • Main vibration problems of a transaxle type forklift truck are caused by the resonance of engine excitation force and natural mode shade of major components such as engine-mount system, mast, and main frame. But, it is well known that the reduction of vibration is very difficult because of the limitation of structural modifications. In this paper, the vibration characteristics of engine-mast system including engine mount were firstly identified by the experimental and simplified numerical methods. And also, the free and forced vibration characteristics of a whole forklift truck were surveyed with modal test and ODS(operation deflection shape) measurement. Based on these results, the reliable finite element model was developed. Finally, various countermeasures were considered and applied to a real forklift truck and then its effects were confirmed.
