The paper investigates the problem of designing the multiple-antenna relay in a two-way relay network by taking into account the imperfect channel state information (CSI). The objective is to design the multiple-antenna relay based upon the CSI estimates, where the estimation errors are included to attain the robust design under the worst-case philosophy. In particular, the worst-case transmit power at the multiple-antenna relay is minimized while guaranteeing the worst-case quality of service requirements that the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at both sources are above a prescribed threshold value. Since the worst-case received SNR expression is too complex for subsequent derivation and processing, its lower bound is explored instead by minimizing the numerator and maximizing the denominator of the worst-case SNR. The aforementioned problem is mathematically formulated and shown to be nonconvex. This motivates the pursuit of semidefinite relaxation coupled with a randomization technique to obtain computationally efficient high-quality approximate solutions. This paper has shown that the original optimization problem can be reformulated and then relaxed to a convex problem that can be solved by utilizing suitable randomization loop. Numerical results compare the proposed multiple-antenna relay with the existing nonrobust method, and therefore validate its robustness against the channel uncertainty. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed design and the associated influencing factors are discussed by means of extensive Monte Carlo simulations.

In this paper, we present a joint relay-and-antenna selection and power allocation strategy for multiple-input multi-output (MIMO) amplify-and-forward (AF) two-way relay networks (TWRNs). In our approach, we select the best transmit and receive antennas at the two sources, a best relay and a best transmit and receive antenna at the selected relay based on maximizing the minimum of the end-to-end received signal-to-noise-ratios (SNRs) under a total transmit power constraints. We obtained the closed-form solution for the optimal power allocation firstly. Then with the optimal allocation solution we found, we can reduce the joint relay-and-antenna selection to a simpler problem. Besides, the overall outage probability is investigated and a tight closed-form approximation is derived, which provides a method to evaluate the outage performance easily and fast. Simulation results are presented to verify the analysis.

In this paper, the downlink performance of multi-cell distributed antenna systems (DAS) with a single user in each cell is investigated. Assuming the channel state information is available at the transmitter, four transmission modes are formulated as combinations of remote antenna units (RAUs) selection and cooperative transmission, namely, non-cooperative transmission without RAU selection (NCT), cooperative transmission without RAU selection (CT), non-cooperative transmission with RAU selection (NCT_RAUS), and cooperative transmission with RAU selection (CT_RAUS). By using probability theory, the cumulative distribution function (CDF) of a user's signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) and the system ergodic capacity under the above four modes are determined, and their closed-form expressions are obtained. Furthermore, the system energy efficiency (EE) is studied by introducing a realistic power consumption model of DAS. An expression for determining EE is formulated, and the closed-form tradeoff relationship between spectral efficiency (SE) and EE is derived as well. Simulation results demonstrate their consistency with the theoretical analysis and reveal the factors constraining system EE, which provide a scientific basis for future design and optimization of DAS.

Adaptive arrays have been proposed as an effective means of mitigating Multiple Access Interference (MAI) and improving the performance of existing and future wireless communication systems. In this paper, we apply the analytical method proposed to analyse the theoretical Mean Bit Error Rate (BER) of an uncoded IS-95 based CDMA system with an array antenna at the BS in a Ricean fading environment. We present a modified expression for the Signal to Interference plus Noise (SINR) ratio as a function of the number of users, number of antennas and noise levels. We also verify the analytical results by means of simulations by considering different user and channel scenarios.

A new antenna shuffling scheme for double space time transmit diversity is proposed. The proposed method obtains the shuffling pattern directly from the estimated channel by maximizing minimum post-processing signal to noise ratio(SNR), while the conventional method minimizes channel correlation. Since the minimum post-processing SNR is directly related with error performance, the proposed method shows better bit error rate performance than the conventional method. Monte Carlo simulations showed that the proposed scheme has more 3 dB SNR gain than the conventional scheme for 10/sup -3/ bit error rate in spatially correlated fadingcaused by a single cluster model.

This paper proposed a control algorithm to compensate the delay time to improve the signal to noise, and the proposed control algorithm estimate the target information to apply the continuous wave radar equation. The proposed control algorithm improves the output signal of each array element bv multiplying the weight of the receive signal to the signal to noise ratio. Radar radiate a signal in spatial and the target information is estimated by the echoed signal from the target. But the signal in the wireless communication environment occurs the delay time due to the multipath which appear human and natural structures. It is difficult to accurately estimate the desired information because of the degradation for the system performance due to the interference signal and the signal distortion. The target information can be improved by compensating the delay signal to apply the weight to the received signal by using the uniform linear array antenna. As a simulation result, we show that the performance of the proposed control algorithm and the non-compensated delay time are compared. The proposed control algorithm proved that the target distance estimation information is improved.

A new transmit antenna selection and shuffling($AS^2$) method for spatially correlated double space time transmit diversity(DSTTD) systems is proposed. The proposed method allows dumb antennas and the superposition of multiple signals at the same transmit antenna, whereas the conventional methods consider the antenna shuffling(AS) only. According to the simulation result, the proposed method provides a 1.8 dB signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) gain over the conventional methods for spatially correlated transmit antennas. Although the number of candidates for $AS^2$ is much higher than that of AS, it is found that the number of candidates for $AS^2$ can be reduced to 36 by using the characteristics and properties of preprocessing matrices, and among them, only 6 candidates are almost always chosen. Next, we empirically compare the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of the proposed method with the conventional spatial multiplexing(SM) technique with antenna selection. Simulation results show that the proposed method outperforms the SM technique.

A 2-axis gimbal-type X-band antenna has been widely used to effectively transmit the high resolution image data from the observation satellite to the desired ground station. However, a discontinuous stepper motor activation for rotating the pointing mechanism in azimuth and elevation directions induces undesirable micro-vibration disturbances which can result in the image quality degradation of a high-resolution observation satellite. To enhance the image quality of the observation satellite, attenuating the micro-vibration induced by an activation of the stepper motor for rotational movements of the antenna is important task. In this study, we proposed a low-rotational-stiffness blade gear applied to the output shaft of the stepper motor to obtain the micro-vibration isolation performance. The design of the blade gear was performed through the structure analysis such that this gear is satisfied with the margin of safety rule under the derived torque budget. In addition, the micro-vibration isolation performance of the blade gear was verified through the micro-vibration measurement test using the dedicated micro-vibration measurement device proposed in this study.

A new smart antenna receiver which incorporates the spatial fourier Transform and the maximal ratio combining(MRC) is proposed. By adapting the spatial fourier transform, the proposed method could separate the received signal into several spatial frequency components which correspond to the arrival angles of signal components, which means the beam focusing. By using the MRC, the proposed method could achieve the maximum signal to noise ratio for the signal of interest. The proposed algorithm is integrated to the CDMA reverse link receiver and simulations are performed to confirm the performance. As a result, the beam focusing effect is confirmed and the performance gain with the proposed algorithm is comparable to ordinary smart antenna receivers. The simulations are performed over the additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) environments and the results are obtained for the beam focusing capability according to the angle of arrival of a signal and the bit error performance improvement according to the number of combining branches in the MRC.
