  • In digital era image processing has been utilized in a variety of media such as TV, camera and smart phone. Typically salt and pepper noise are generated by various causes during the analysis, identification, and processing of image data. Principal filters such as SMF, CWMF, and AMF have been used to remove these noise. But the existing filters fall short of edge preservation and noise elimination in high noise densities. Thus, a processing algorithm, on which the size of deformable mask varies depending on the noise density, is proposed to remove salt and pepper noise effectively in this study. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated compared with the existing methods using PSNR.

  • Image processing is playing an important part in automation and artificial intelligence systems, such as object tracking, object recognition and classification, and the importance of IoT technology and automation is emphasizing as interest in automation increases. However, in a system that requires detailed data such as an image boundary, a precise noise removal algorithm is required. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a filtering algorithm based on the pixel value distribution pattern to minimize the information loss in the filtering process. The proposed algorithm finds the distribution pattern of neighboring pixel values with respect to the pixel values of the input image. Then, a weight mask is calculated based on the distribution pattern, and the final output is calculated by applying it to the filtering mask. The proposed algorithm has superior noise removal characteristics compared to the existing method and restored the image while minimizing blurring.

  • The conventional method for filtering force plate data, low-pass filtering, does not always give accurate results when applied to force data from a custom-made, instrumented treadmill. Therefore, this study compares low-pass filtered data to the same data passed through a wavelet filter. We collected data with the treadmill running. However these include motor noise with ground reaction force at two force plates. We found that he proposed wavelet method eliminated motor noise to result in more accurate force plate data than the conventional low-pass filter, particularly at high speed motor operation. In this study we suggested the convolution wavelet (CNW) which was compared to that of a low-pass filter. The CNW showed better performance as compared to band-pass filtering particularly for low signal-to-noise ratios, and a lower computational load.

  • Noise reduction and a simplification of a precision measurement system has been performed by changing analog output mode of a load cell into digital output mode. Usually, analog output signal of a few $\mu V$ from a load cell are amplified by amp and acquired by A/D converter. If the distance from a load cell to a DAS(Data Acquisition System) increases, more noise signals are mixed. So, a microprocessor has been integrated into a load cell so that the amplification and A/D conversion of output signals could be done in close proximity to the lode cell for the reduction in mixing of noise. Obtained data from the load cell like this manner are transferred to a computer with digital values(of TTL level). To simplify the configuration of a multi-channel DAS, RS-485 communication system has used for data transfer.

  • Speech enhancement aims to improve speech quality by removing background noise from noisy speech. Independent vector analysis is a type of frequency-domain independent component analysis method that is known to be free from the frequency bin permutation problem in the process of blind source separation from multi-channel inputs. This paper proposed a new method of microphone array based speech enhancement that combines independent vector analysis and beamforming techniques. Independent vector analysis is used to separate speech and noise components from multi-channel noisy speech, and delay-sum beamforming is used to determine the enhanced speech among the separated signals. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, experiments for computer simulated multi-channel noisy speech with various signal-to-noise ratios were carried out, and both PESQ and output signal-to-noise ratio were obtained as objective speech quality measures. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method is superior to the conventional microphone array based noise removal approach like GSC beamforming in the speech enhancement.

  • In this paper an efficient morphologica algorithm for reducing gaussian and impulse noise in gray-scale image is presented. Based on the edge information the input image is partitioned into a flat region and an edge region, then different algorithms are selectively applied to each region. in case of impulse noise, MGR (morphologica grayscale reconstruction) algorithm with directional SE (structuring element) is applied to the flat region. For theedge region opening-closing (closing-opening) is used instead of dialation (erosion), so that the remaining noise around large objects can be removed. In case of gaussian noise, 5*5 OCCO(opening closing closing opening) and 3*3 DMF(directional morphological filter ) are used for the flat region and the edgeregion, respectively. In order to remove discontinuity at the edge boundary, the algorithm uses 3*3 OCCO around the edge region to reconstruct the final image. Experimetnal results have shown that the proposed algorithm achieves a high performance in terms of noise removal, detail preservation, and NMSE.

  • In this paper, we studied on an efficient detection and removal of the periodic scanner interference noise in LANDSAT images. Firstly, noise models and their characteristics are discussed. And we proposed a new scheme of noise detection in Fourier domain. Then, an dfficient noise filter can be designed based on the detected noise components. To verifythe effectiveness of our scheme, some experiments guided by our proposed scheme are performed using a real LANDSAT image.

  • As the demand for high-quality rendering for mixed reality, videogame, and simulation has increased, global illumination has been actively researched. Monte Carlo path tracing can realize global illumination and produce photorealistic scenes that include critical effects such as color bleeding, caustics, multiple light, and shadows. If the sampling rate is insufficient, however, the rendered results have a large amount of noise. The most successful approach to eliminating or reducing Monte Carlo noise uses a feature-based filter. It exploits the scene characteristics such as a position within a world coordinate and a shading normal. In general, the techniques are based on the denoised pixel or sample and are computationally expensive. However, the main challenge for all of them is to find the appropriate weights for every feature while preserving the details of the scene. In this paper, we compare the recent algorithms for removing Monte Carlo noise in terms of their performance and quality. We also describe their advantages and disadvantages. As far as we know, this study is the first in the world to compare the artificial intelligence-based denoising methods for Monte Carlo rendering.

  • Recently, filtering methods for attenuating noise while preserving image details are in progress actively. And SM(standard median) fille. showed a great performance for noise removal in impulse noise environment but, it caused edge cancellation error So, variable methods that modified SM(standard median)filter have been proposed, and CWM(center weighted median) filter is representative. Also, there are several methods to improve the efficiency based on min/max operation in term of preserving detail and filtering speed. In this paper, we managed a pixel corrupted by impulsive noise using min/max value of the surrounding band enclosing a pixel, and compared the efficiency with exiting methods in the simulation.

  • In this paper, we present an efficient image reconstruction method which is suited to remove various noise generated from measurement using X-ray attenuation. To be specific, we present a wavelet method to efficiently remove ring artifacts, which are caused by inevitable mechanical error in X-ray emitters and detectors. and streak artifacts, which are caused by general observation errors and Fourier transform-based reconstruction process. To remove ring artifacts related noise from projections, we suggest to estimate the noise intensity by using the fact that the noise related to ring artifacts has a strong correlation in the angle direction, and remove them by using wavelet shrinkage. We also suggest to use wavelet-vaguelette decomposition for general-purpose noise removal and image reconstruction. Through simulation studies. we show that the proposed method provides a better result in ring artifact removal and image reconstruction over the traditional Fourier transform-based methods.
