A Study on the Evaluation Unit of a Military Aircraft Noise (군용항공기 소음평가 단위에 관한 연구)

  • Korean 'Law of Aviation' and 'Test Method of Measuring Noise and Vibration' designate to use WECPNL metric based on $L_{max}$ measurement for the accessment of aircraft noise in Korea. However, time duration of noise event can not be considered in $L_{max}$ metric in principle, compensation on the duration has been utilized. A study was done recently to evaluate appropriate duration compensation for the accessment of military aircraft noise under current metric of WECPNL and $L_{max}$. This study was carried out to evaluate what metric is the most appropriate to express aircraft noise including time duration of single noise event, computing and comparing noise exposure with 1 second noise measurement data of military aircraft in $L_{max}$, $L_{Aeq,\;T}$ and SEL. This study shows SEL is the most appropriate noise metric for the evaluation of noise exposure with time duration such as aircraft noise without compensation. It is suggested to use SEL noise metric instead of $L_{max}$ noise metric with duration compensation for the aircraft noise accessment either military aircraft or civilian aircraft.

  • Vibration of rotating machinery is a factor that is something to do with abnormal machinery. Former days, Perception of vibration at rotating machinery had used Shaft rider type. Shaft rider type was adhered to surface of shaft and detected vibration of rotating machinery. Recently, Perception of vibration at rotating machinery uses to non-contact sensor. Working principle of non-contact sensor is used of eddy current. Vibration at rotating machinery appears to deviation of eddy current. In this paper, We investigate abnormal vibration due to non-contact sensor.

  • This paper reviews recent international standards related to human-related vibration and compares them to KS standards. This comparison and analysis reveals that the current direction and activity in ISO is in progress and presents logical ways of updating Korean standards in the future. Finally, the current activity of upgrading Korean standards in the Korean TC 108/SC 4 is introduced.

A Study on the Evaluation Metric of a Civil Aircraft Noise (민간항공기 소음평가 단위에 관한 연구)

  • The duration time of aircraft noise event is also an important factor for the evaluation of civil aircraft noise, which is considered as a notable characteristic of military aircraft noise. SEL is proved as a suitable noise metric for the measuring military aircraft noise of various flight pattern considering the duration time of noise event. This study reviews whether SEL is a suitable for measuring civil aircraft noise and study shows SEL is fairly compensating the duration time of civil aircraft noise event for the evaluation of aircraft noise. Noise metric for the evaluation aircraft noise based on SEL is more appropriate than based on $L_{MAX}$ for compensating duration time of noise event either military aircraft or civil aircraft. In this reason, current formula of WECPNL based on energy average of measured $L_{MAX}$ for the evaluation of aircraft noise impact in 'Test Method of Noise and Vibration of Korea' is recommended to be amended to formula of WECPNL based on energy average of measured SEL considering compensation of noise event duration time, if WECPNL is not based on measured EPNL, a metric compensating duration time.

  • As in many of the vehicle NVH issues, blower motor noise has been improved over the years through intensive R&D and production process improvement. Durability of motors, however, still has room for improvement according to customer surveys such as VDS. To investigate the noise issues of blower motors in view of durability, current production motors along with major competitor motors are tested. The noise after accelerated durability test shows that production motors are competitive in noise level with similar noise performance compared to initial measurement. The test result also provided guidelines to the durability development process.

  • SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) is one of the most important performance for the electro-optical camera system. This paper shows not only the SNR analyses for the MSC system, which is the payload in the KOMPSAT2 satellite, but also the trials for its improvement in the electronics circuit design. The MSC deals with one panchromatic band and four multi-spectral bands. The SNR analyses are performed based on the MSC design for the each band and assuming that the defined radiance reached directly to the sensor entrance pupil. In the SNR calculation, shot noise, dark current noise, analog electronics noise and ADC quantization noise are considered as noise sources. In these noise sources, especially, the electronics noise depends on the camera electronics design. This paper shows the camera electronics design to increase SNR and its test results as well as the SNR analyses.

Laser Phase Noise to Electronic Phase Noise Conversion in Optical Links Comprising Optical Resonators

  • This article investigates the mechanism of electronic signal phase noise degradation induced by laser phase noise in optical links comprising optical resonators. Through theoretical derivation, we find that the phase noise of the output electronic signal has the same spectral shape of optical intensity noise as the output of the optical resonator. We propose that the optical resonator transfers laser phase noise to light intensity fluctuation and then the intensity fluctuation is converted to electric phase noise through AM-PM conversion mechanism in the photodiode. An optical link comprising a Fabry-Perot resonator was constructed to verify the proposed mechanism. The experimental results agree with our theoretical prediction verifying that the supposition is correct.

A Spectral-spatial Cooperative Noise-evaluation Method for Hyperspectral Imaging

  • Hyperspectral images feature a relatively narrow band and are easily disturbed by noise. Accurate estimation of the types and parameters of noise in hyperspectral images can provide prior knowledge for subsequent image processing. Existing hyperspectral-noise estimation methods often pay more attention to the use of spectral information while ignoring the spatial information of hyperspectral images. To evaluate the noise in hyperspectral images more accurately, we have proposed a spectral-spatial cooperative noise-evaluation method. First, the feature of spatial information was extracted by Gabor-filter and K-means algorithms. Then, texture edges were extracted by the Otsu threshold algorithm, and homogeneous image blocks were automatically separated. After that, signal and noise values for each pixel in homogeneous blocks were split with a multiple-linear-regression model. By experiments with both simulated and real hyperspectral images, the proposed method was demonstrated to be effective and accurate, and the composition of the hyperspectral image was verified.

  • In this paper, a low noise amplifier having high gain and low noise by using input and inter stage matching circuits has been designed. A current-reused two-stage common-source topology is adopted, which can obtain high gain and low power consumption. Deterioration of noise characteristics according to the source inductive degeneration matching is compensated by adopting additional matching circuits. Moreover trade-offs among noise, gain, linearity, impedance matching, and power dissipation have been considered. In this design, 0.18-mm CMOS process is employed for the simulation. The simulated results show that the designed low noise amplifier can provide high power gain and low noise characteristics.

  • This paper presents a experimental evidence of the generation of the earth potential and communication line noise from the electric railway. There is a critical measurement err in case of measuring the electrical power induced noise voltage and degree of cable balance in the field of earth potential generated. As a results, it has been found that the conventional cable has more noise immunity than shielded cable near the railway where the earth current flows through the sheath layer.
