Thirty-four species of the subfamily Plusiinae were recognized from the lepidopteran expeditions to Mt. Changbai during 2000-2004. Among them, six species (Abrostola ussuriensis Dufay, Polychrysia aurata (Staudinger), P. splendida (Butler), Lamprotes mikadina (Butler), Autographa amurica (Staudinger), and A. v-minus (Oberthur)) are reported for the first time from China. Three previously reported species Antoculeora ornatissima (Walker), Autographa nigrisigna (Walker), and Syngrapha hochenwarthi (Hochenwarth) were not found in this study, Photographic images of adults of the newly known species from China and their male or female genitalia are given, with a check list of the 37 known species of the subfamily in Mt Changbai.
Forty six individuals out of 200 Acronicta rumicis larva were parasitized (23 %) in 2000, 14 individuals out of 60 (23.33 %) in 2001, and 14 individuals out of 62 (22.58 %) in 2002. The mean parasitism rate was $22.97{\pm}0.38%$. The parasitism rate was 36.36 % in May and 52.78 % in October, 2000, 75 % and 50% in May and October 2001, 71.4% and 47.37% in May and October 2002 and it was much higher than other months. Parasitism was occurred from May to October 2000, but it was not in June and August 2001 and June 2002. There was no difference in the monthly mean parasitism rate, but the rate was the highest in May and October. The parasitoid of the larva of A. rumicis was the highest by 77.02% of parasitic wasps, and 13.51% of parasitic flies. It was found that multiparasitism was 4.05 % and hyperparasitism was 5.41 %. In case of parasitic wasps whose parasitism rate is the highest, the rate of Braconidae and Ichneumonidae was 70.18 % and 29.82 % respectively. That is, the former has much higher parasitism rate. The parasitism rate of the larva of A. rumicis was found that Microplitis sp. is $5.28{\pm}0.63%$, Glyptapanteles liparidis $8.62{\pm}3.70%$, and Diadegma sp. $4.02{\pm}1.28%$ respectively.
Based on our insect collecting trip to the Is. Jin-do, Jeollanam-do Province from June 29 to July 1, 2005, a total of 573 lepidopterous species belonging to 37 families are reported, with adding 122 species new to the locality During our survey, the most dominant species was Cryptolechia malacobyrsa Meyrick (Oecophoridae), followed by Sandrabatis crassiella Ragonot (Pyralidae) and Yponomeuta tokyonellus Matsumura(Yponomeutidae), and the family Noctuidae (165 spp.) was the most diverse taxon in species number. We here also discuss the species representing the climatic feature in the island and compare the species diversity with those of other two major islands in Korea, Is. Geoje-do and Is. Jeju-do. Among the species recognized in this study, two species, Epilepia dentata (Matsumura and Shibata) and Meganola costalis (Staudinger) are recorded in Korea for the first time, in spite of the presence of previous notes on the species which is invalid. The adults and genitalia of the two species are illustrated and described briefly.

We confirmed the convenient bioassay method for the black cutworm, Agrotis ipsilon in semi-field conditions. And we surveyed the susceptibility to commercial pesticides of A. ipsilon, which feeds Chinese cabbage through this bioassay process. As a result of the test, six soil mixing insecticides and eight soil drenching insecticides showed more than 90% insecticidal activity.

A diverse kind of environment-friendly agricultural materials(EFAM) for the control of insect pests is on the market. These EFAMs are a part of essential sources for the accomplishment of successful, sustainable, and environment-friendly agriculture. Thus, accurate information of these EFAMs is one that required for the success of environment-friendly agriculture, but, in reality, still appropriate information is absolutely in shortage. In this study, we, therefore, tested the efficacy of commercial EFAMs against two lepidopteran insect larvae, the diamondback moth Plutella xylostella(Lepidoptera: plutellidae) and the tobacco cutworm Spodoptera litura(Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). After the two insect pests were successfully stabilized in indoor environment the larvicidal activity was tested at $24{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, relative humidity(RH) of $60{\pm}5%$, and a photoperiod of 16L:8D, and mortality was determined 48 hrs after EFAMs are treated. The EFAMs that showed more than 90% of larvicidal activity were each six among 16 against both P. xylostella and S. litura and only three of them showed consistent larvicidal activity against both species, signifying species specificity of EFAMs and importance of selection of proper EFAMs depending on target insect pest.

Amur silver grass, Miscanthus sacchariflorus is one of the promising biofuel weeds. A damage of noctuid pest, Leucapamea askoldis was firstly observed from Amur silver grass in Hwasun silver grass plantation during the survey of insect pests of Amur silver grass in Iksan, Hwasun, and Sancheong plantation areas in Korea. The host of L. askoldis was not known yet in Korea. The L. askoldis damage was observed as larval feeding on newly grown shoots and roots of M. sacchariflorus close to soil surface from early May in 2013. Investigated larval density was $1.6{\pm}1.1per\;m^2$ on April 4 and damage rate of shoots was $0.8{\pm}0.4%$ on May 4, 2013. The larvae bore into shoots of M. sacchariflorus and feed on the inside of plant. The damaged shoots are easily pulled out and distinguished by the boring hole on the shoots. L. askoldis was potential insect pest in M. sacchariflorus plantation areas.
Studies were conducted to control Spodoptera exigua in Allium fistulosum field using synthetic sex pheromone trap. Heavily, medium and lightly damagd fields at early transplanting time showed no differences in control effects after 8 weeks of establishment of pheromone traps in Allium fistulosum fields. Number of damaged leaves in each treated field was 0.2-3 individuals per 60 hills comparing with 33.2 individuals at non-treated field. Also, the numbers uf male adults attracted to pheromone traps were 1.8-5.0 individuals at the big inning of installation but increased to 25.8, 49.9, 74.9, and 77.4 individuals after 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks, respectively. There was a negative correlation between amount of male adults attracted to pheromone traps and number of damaged leaves (r=-0.9572*). Number of adults attracted to various colored light trap for 30 days were 6 in red, 11 in white and none in blue comparing with 1,041 individuals in pheromone trap.
This study investigated seasonal occurrence and daily flight activity using synthetic sex pherom mone and injury characteristics of 야et armyworm, Spodoptera exigua in Chonnam area of K Korea in 1990. Male adults were attracted to phermone trap from mid-June to late November w with the peaks at mid-late August, mid-late September and early-mid November in vinyl i house and also were attracted from mid October to late November in field. Primary peak of occurrence in vinyl house was 20 days sooner than field. It seems to have 6 generations a year in C Chonnam region based on the estimation of larval biomass. Daily male flight was active from m midnight to before sunrise with the peak at 4-6 A.M .. In injury characteristics at various host plants, damage was great in early growing stage at below 10 cm of plant height in Allium fistulsum. Chrysanthemum morifolium was damaged at mostly upper part of leaves reaching to m the extent up to 70%. In case of Gypsophila paniculata, plants injured at early growing stage do n not grow and flower normally.

Without pesticide applications, mass-trapping by sex pheromone was successful to control Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) in a large scale tomato glasshouse (10,000 $m^2$) at a low cost of 60 won/$m^2$. Pheromone traps were placed both inside and outside of the glasshouse. Inside the glasshouse traps were installed in a regular space, one trap per 500 $m^2$, to catch the moths that were present in the glasshouse, and traps were also set outside of the glasshouse, at intervals of ca. 20 m, to prevent the moths from invading the glasshouse. In the experiment, more than 400 S. litura were captured per trap.
Development and reproduction of the rice armyworm, Pseudaletia separara, were investigated on different diets (corn leaf, rice leaf, Chinese cabbage leaf, cabbage leaf, sweetpotato leaf, soybean leaf and silkworm artificial diet). Egg and pupal periods were not different among the diets. But larval periods showed significant difference among diets. Developmental period from egg to adult was shortest as 32.5 d on corn leaf and longest as 46.6 d on soybean leaf. At 16 days after hatching, larval weights on rice and silkworm artificial diet were heavier than those on other diets. The larvae reared on cabbage leaf and sweetpotato leaf failed to pupate. Survival rates from larva to adult were highest (70.6%) on com leaf lowest (39.8%) on soybean leaf. The longevity of female adults was not affected by the larval diets. Female adults showed higher fecundity when the larvae were fed with corn leaf, rice leaf and silkworm artificial diet than other diets. Net reproduction rate (R$_{0}$) was highest as 1218.5 on silkworm artificial diet. The intrinsic rate of natural increase (R$_{0}$) ranged from 0.115 to 0.175, and was maximum on com leaf.
