  • It is a very important procedure to establish the occlusal plane in the construction of complete denture. So many methods have been utilized to establish the occlusal plane in complete denture prosthodontics. However, no single method seems to fully accepted. This study was aimed to review the literature on establishing the occlusal plane in complete denture prosthodontics, to measure the distance from the lower border of the upper lip to the upper incisal edge and to investigate the correlation between the ala-tragus line and the occlusal plane. The results ware as follows ; 1. The average distance between the lower border of the upper lip and the upper incisal edge was $1.45{\pm}1.28mm$. 2. The distance between the lower border of the upper lip and the upper incisal edge had a tendency to decrease with age. 3. A angle of the ala-tragus line to the occlusal plane measured with Fox plane was $-1.41{\pm}2.33^{\circ}$. 4. The ala-tragus line to occlusal plane was nearly parallel, cosidering curve of spee in the upper natural teeth.

  • Objective: CBCT has become popular for orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning in recent times. The 3D pharyngeal airway space needs to be analysed using a 3D diagnostic tool. The aim of this study was to analyse the pharyngeal airway of different craniofacial morphology using CBCT. Methods: The sample compromised 102 subjects divided into 3 groups (Class I, II, III) and 6 subgroups according to normal or vertical craniofacial patterns. All samples had CBCT (VCT, Vatech, Seoul, Korea) taken for orthodontic treatment. The pharyngeal airway was assessed according to the reference planes: aa plane (the most anterior point on the anterior arch of atlas), $CV_2$ plane, and $CV_3$ plane (most infero-anterior point on the body of the second & third cervical vertebra). The intergroup comparison was performed with one-way ANOVA and duncan test as a second step. Results: The results showed the pharyngeal airway and anteroposterior width of group 2 (Class II) in aa plane, $CV_2$ plane, $CV_3$ plane were significant narrower than in group 3 (Class III). There was no significant difference between vertical and normal craniofacial patterns except for the anteroposterior pharyngeal width of Group 1 (Class I) in aa plane. Conclusions: Subjects with Class II patterns have a significantly narrower pharyngeal airway than those with Class III. However there was no difference in pharyngeal airway between vertical and normal craniofacial morphology.

  • A subset S of vertices of a graph G is independent if no two vertices of S are adjacent by an edge in G. Also we say that S is maximal independent if it is contained In no larger independent set in G. A planted plane tree is a tree that is embedded in the plane and rooted at an end-vertex. A (k+1) -valent tree is a planted plane tree in which each vertex has degree one or (k+1). We classify maximal independent sets of (k+1) -valent trees into two groups, namely, type A and type B maximal independent sets and consider specific independent sets of these trees. We study relations among these three types of independent sets. Using the relations, we count the number of all maximal independent sets of (k+1) -valent trees with n vertices of degree (k+1).

  • Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) using the Model 95 Ar laserm, a video system and an image processor was applied to the in-plane displacement measurements. Unlike traditional strain gauges or moire method, ESPI method requires no special surface preparation or attachments and can be measured in-plane displacement with no contact and real time. In this experiment wpecimen was loaded in parallel with a loadcell. The specimen was the cold rolled sdteel sheet of 2mm thickness, which was attached strain gauges. The study provides an example of how ESPI have been used to measure strain displacement in this specimen. The results measured by ESPI have been used to measure strain displacement in this specimen. The results measured by ESPI have been used to measure strain displacement in this specimen. The results measured by ESPI compare with the data which was measured by strain gauge method in tensile testing.

  • In this paper, an experimental method using a reference accelerometer has been developed to measure the in-plane vibration intensity of a beam. It has the advantages of reducing accelerometer phase error comparing with the cross spectral intensity measurement technique using an accelerometer array. It needs no measurement of the input force required in the frequency response method using the only one accelerometer This method has been used to measure the in-plane vibration intensity over the beam. The result has been compared with an input power and the vibration intensity obtained with other methods. It showed that the present experimental method can be effectively used to measure the structural in-plane vibration intensity.

  • Free vibration of a semi-circular pipe conveying fluid is analyzed when the pipe is clamped at both ends. To consider the geometric non-linearity, this study adopts the Lagrange strain theory and the extensibility of the pipe. By using the extended Hamilton principle, the non-linear partial differential equations are derived, which are coupled to the in-plane and out-of\ulcornerplant: motions. To investigate the vibration characteristics of the system, the discretized equations of motion are derived from the Galerkin method. The natural frequencies are computed from the linearized equations of motion in the neighborhood of the equilibrium position. From the results. the natural frequencies for the in-plane and out-of-plane motions are vary with the flow velocity. However, no instability occurs the semi-circular pipe with both ends clamped, when taking into account the geometric non-linearity explained by the Lagrange strain theory.

  • This paper addresses a new technique of measuring the mean flow velocity not only over the cross sectional area but also along the pipe by exploiting the acoustic plane waves in the pipe. When fluid flows in the pipe and two plane waves propagate oppositely through the medium in it, the flow velocity causes a change of the wave number of the plane waves. The wave number of the positive going plane wave decreases but oppositely that of negative going one increases in comparison to no flow of the medium in the pipe. Theoretical backgrounds of this method are in details discussed and measurement results of the mean flow velocity are illustrated to reveal the feasibility and effectiveness of the suggested technique.
