  • Recently ADN was disclosed to replace AP or AN as a solid oxidizer. 3-N,N-Dinitraminopropanitrile, a key intermediate in the preparation of ADN, was synthesized from bis(2-cyanoethyl)amine by the sequence: nitration of bis(2-cyanoethyl)amine followed by decyanoethylation by base and the second nitration with NO2BF4. 3-N-Nitro-bis(2-cyanoethyl)amine could also be obtained by the oxidation of the corresponding N-nitroso compound.

  • Quantitative analyses were made of pepsinogen 1 (Pg 1) decreased pyloric glands after treating male Wistar rats with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) and NaCl and then with various test chemicals. Animals received MNNG in drinking water (100ng/ml) and 10% NaCl in diet for 8 weeks (group1), followed by basal diet containing 0.01% capsaicin, 0.5% allyl sulfide, 0.5% indole-3-carbinol and 0.05% germanium until 20 weeks (groups 2-5).

  • 7-Alkyl-1-carboxyphenazine derivatives, bearing butyl or octyl group, were synthesize by the reaction of anthranilic acid with 3-nitroalkylbenzene, prepared from aniline and alcohols as starting materials through alkylation of 3-nitro-4-aminoalkylbenzene. And the products were also identified by elementary analysis, IR and NMR spectra. Surface tension of these derivatives in aqueous solution was determined. And also Antibiotic activity of these derivatives was tested, using Gram positive and negative bacillus and fungi. It showed that the antibiotic activity of these alkyl-substituted 1-carboxyphenazine derivatives was stronger than that of the 1-carboxyphenazine.

Development of Bifidobacterium bifidum Strains Resistant to Rifampicin (리팜피신에 내성인 Bifidobacterium bifidum 균주개발)

  • Bifidobacterium bifidum, one strain of medical preparations being on the market for human intestinal disorder, is very sensitive to rifampicin. If this preparation is taken with rifampicin, its therapeutic effect can't be expected. To develope rifampicin resistant mutants, B. bifidum was treated with N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine(MNNG). All of thirty strains grown on the plates containing 10 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml rifampicin were over 1, 000 times more resistant to rifampicin than parental strain and they were identified as B. bifidum by fructose-6-phosphoate phosphoketolase test. Three strains out of thirty, which produced almost same amount of organic acid as parental strain, were selected for further studies. They showed identical growth inhibition activity aganist E. coli compared with that of parental strain. And rifampicin was not inactivated.

  • Mutations of p53 tumor suppressor gene have been associated with exposure to carcinogens. Cultured human breast epithelial cells (MCF10A) were treated with Benzo(a)pyrene(BaP) or N-Methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine(MNNG). MCF10A cells were grown in DMEM/F12 medium and trated for 6, 12, 24, 48 and 96h with Bap (1, 10 and 100 $\mu$M) dissolved in dimethylsulfoxide(DMSO). (omitted)

  • Strain of treptomyces minoensis DMCJ-144 was tried to be improved so that it produces much more the $\alpha$-amylase inhibitor. Streptomyces minoensis DMCJ-144 was treated with 1 mg/mι (pH 9.0) of N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine at $30^{\circ}C$ for 60 min and irradiated with UV light distanced 30 cm for 20 min. After mutagenesis, surviving colonies were cultured on the CM contaning acriflavine ($10{\mu}g/ml$) three times in order to enhance the mutability. And then through multi-level screening, colonies that ${\alpha}$-amylase inhibitor productibility. was Improved were selected by modified-blue value method. After third acriflavine treatment, $\alpha$-amylase inhibitory activities of selected colonies were found to be much better as compared with that of parent strain. One mutant strain showed 5.4 time inhibitory activity than the parent strain.

  • Effects of a nitriding treatment on the tensile and high cycle fatigue properties were investigated by conducting ion-nitriding and gas nitro-caburizing treatments on the spheroidized SCr430B medium-carbon steel and performing tensile and tension-tension high cycle fatigue tests. The nitrided samples showed much lower strength and ductility compared to those in the initial as-spheroidized state and premature fracture occurred at the hardened layers. The micro-voids in the compound layer caused fatigue crack initiation. Thus, the removal of the compound layer with micro-voids remarkably improved the fatigue resistance to even beyond that of the as-spheroidized sample.

  • Ferritic Nitro Carburizing (FNC) cast iron brake discs is known to improve corrosion resistance and brake creep groan noise as well as prevent corrosion-induced pulsation. But, it is necessary to treat honing machining on braking surface to avoid grinding noise during braking.
