The Effects of Heat-treatment on Magnetic Properties for Gas-atomized MPP Dust Cores (가스분무법으로 제조한 MPP 분말코어의 자기적 특성에 미치는 열처리 효과)

  • The effects of heat-treatment with magnetic or non-magnetic field on magnetic properties of gas-atomized MPP dust cores subjected to various cooling processes after annealing were investigated. Upon magnetic-field annealing, ac permeability and core loss decreased with the increase of cooling rate, which were attributed to the generation of inhomogeneous internal stress and anomalous eddy current loss, respectively. It was not observed the formation of ordered phase and the related change in magnetic properties at the cooling stage for MPP dust cores. In MPP alloys, magnetic anisotropy was easily induced through the directional order, and permeability and core loss were changed under the conditions of low cooling rate and magnetic annealing.

  • The Physical and magnetic properties such as microstructure, permeability and power loss of Ni-Zn ferrite with composition of $Ni_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$, were investigated as the function of $Bi_2O_3$ and CaO contents. The power loss increased in proportion to the amount of $Bi_2O_3$ up to 0.3 wt% but it decreased over than 0.3 wt% addition. The highest permeability of 134 was obtained to the specimen added 1.0 wt% $Bi_2O_3$ since $Bi_2O_3$ contents were strongly dominant to grain growth and size than that of CaO. $Bi_2O_3$ liquid phase created during sintering process promoted sintering and grain growth so that grain size and permeability increased compared to that of the specimens which were sintered with free-additive and CaO. Also, lots of pores existed in the specimen which was added $Bi_2O_3$ wt% with the biggest grain size.

  • The electromagnetic properties of Ni$\_$0.8/Zn$\_$0.2/Fe$_2$O$_4$ having stable characteristics in high frequency range were investigated as functions of Bi$_2$O$_3$, CaO contents. Power loss increased in proportion to the amount of Bi$_2$O$_3$ up to 0.3 wt% and decreased over 0.3 wt%. Also, permeability increased with Bi$_2$O$_3$ contents. The lowest power loss and highest resonance frequency were obtained to the specimens added Bi$_2$O$_3$ of 0.7wt% and CaO of 0.3 wt% due to creation of resistivity layers in the grain boundaries originated by the solid solution of Bi$_2$O$_3$ and CaO.

Magnetoresistance and Strain in Permalloy Films

  • We measure the magnetoresistance (MR) of sputtered Permalloy ($Ni_{83}Fe_{17}$) films with external strains produced by piezoelectric tranducer actuators. We observe that the MR raito was increased by 2.3 times by a compressive strain of $3.5{\times}10^{-4}$ compared to that of the as-deposited film. Tensile strains and compressive strains reduced the MR ratio. These observations suggest that it is possible to tune the MR properties through the use of the external strains. We expect to apply the results for the multi-head magnetic recorders with selectively activated recording heads.

Magnetic Properties of NiZnCu Ferrite for Multilayer Chip Inductors (칩인덕터용 NiZnCu Ferrite의 자기적 특성 연구)

  • $Ni_{0.4}Zn_{0.4}Cu_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite was fabricated by solid stat reaction method and sol-gel method. Because of the drawbacks of each method, we combined these two methods together. We proposed and experimentally verified that nanocrystalline ferrite additive was effective on improving the densification behavior and magnetic properties of NiZnCu ferrites for multilayer chip inductors. The initial permeability of the toroidal core Sample with 20 wt% nanocrystalline ferrite increased from 78.1 to 178.2 as annealing temperature is increased from $880^{\circ}C$ to $920^{\circ}C$. The density, shrinkage and saturation magnetization were increased with increasing annealing temperature, which was attributed to the decrease of additive grain size and increase of sintering density.
