  • Two types of Ni(II)-polyethyleneimine (PEI) complexes, [Ni(PEI)]$Cl_2$ and [Ni(P-EI)$Cl_2$] were synthesized and their catalytic activities in the decomposition reaction of hydrogen peroxide were investigated. For the purpose of comparison, the corresponding monomeric complexes, $[Ni(en)_3]Cl_2$ and $[Ni(en)_2Cl_2$ were also prepared; it was observed that their activities increase in the following order; $0{\approx}[Ni(en)_3]Cl_2{\le}[Ni(en)_2Cl_2]<[Ni(PEI)]Cl_2<[Ni(PEI)Cl_2]$ On the basis of structural analysis by means of visible and infrared spectroscopy, the catalytic activiy of these Ni(II)-PEI complexes is assumed to depend on the bond strength between the ligand and the nickel ion.

Adsorption and Regeneration Characteristics of Ammonia on NiCl2 Impregnated Adsorbents (NiCl2 첨착된 흡착제 상에서 암모니아의 흡착 및 재생 특성)

  • Effects of the support and amount of NiCl2 on ammonia adsorption capacity were investigated to improve the ammonia adsorption performance. NiCl2 was impregnated onto the surface of various supports under ultrasonic irradiation. The physicochemical properties and ammonia adsorption performance of NiCl2-impregnated adsorbents were investigated. Among the various supports, it was found that the adsorption capacity of ammonia was the best when NiCl2 was impregnated on activated carbon (AC) with the highest specific surface area. As a result of changing the amount of NiCl2 impregnated on AC, the NiCl2(2.0)/AC adsorbent impregnated with 2 mmol·g-1 of NiCl2 showed the highest ammonia adsorption capacity of 5.977 mmol·g-1. In addition, the adsorption capacity was found to be maintained at an almost constant level in five repeated cycle tests under the condition that low-temperature heat could be utilized. This indicates that the adsorbent has excellent regeneration ability.

  • 다결정 실리콘 박막은 박막 트랜지스터와 실리콘 태양전지등에 응용되며, 비정질 실리콘을 재결정화 하여 얻어지는 다결정 실리콘 박막이 주로 이용되고 있다. 비정질 실리콘 박막을 금속 원소와 접촉시킨 상태에서 열처리할 경우 결정화 온도가 낮아지고 결정화에 필요한 열처리 시간이 짧아지게 된다. 금속을 실리콘 박막 표면에 가하는 방법은 진공증착법등으로 비정질 실리콘 박막 위에 금속원소 층을 형성하는 방법이 주로 이용되었다. 본 연구에서는 AlCl$_3$와 NiCl$_2$ 금속화합물 분위기에서 LPCVD 비정질 실리콘 박막을 열처리하여 결정화 거동을 관찰하였다. 금속화합물과 결정화할 비정질 실리콘 박막을 각각 다른 온도로 가열해 줄 수 있는 노를 이용하여 열처리를 시행하였다. AlCl$_3$와 NiCl$_2$ 분말을 혼합하여 소스로 이용한 경우 48$0^{\circ}C$ 5시간 열처리로 결정화가 완료되었으며, 박막 전체에 걸친 균일도와 재현성이 우수하였다. AlCl$_3$와 NiCl$_2$를 이용한 결정화 초기 상태에는 박막 전면에 걸쳐 등근 형태의 결정립이 균일한 핵 생성으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 Al과 Ni이 고상결정화에 동시에 작용하면서 나타난 것으로, Al이 가해진 비정질 실리콘으로 인해 결정화 속도가 빨라지고 결함이 작은 결정립을 얻을 수 있었으며, Ni로 인해 결정화의 균일성과 재현성을 높일 수 있었다.

Dry Etching of NiFe, NiFeCo, and Ta in Cl2/Ar Inductively Coupled Plasma (Cl2/Ar 유도 결합 플라즈마를 이용한 NiFe, NiFeCo, Ta의 건식식각)

  • Dry etching of NiFe, NiFeCo, and Ta for magnetic random access memory (MRAM) by inductively coupled plasmas (ICPs) of $Cl_2/Ar$ has been carried out. NiFe and NiFeCo showed maximum etch rates at a particular ICP source power, but the etch rate of Ta increased with the ICP source power. The etch rates of the magnetic thin films increased with the RF chuck power, but decreased with the operating pressure and the $Cl_2$ concentration. To avoid a corrosion problem by chlorine, the etched samples were rinsed with de-ionized water for 5 minutes after etching. The etch profile showed a clean and smooth surface at 50% $Cl_2$ concentration.

Property Changes of Ni-Co Film with the Change of Co Concentration in Sulfamate-chloride Bath (Sulfamate-Chloride Bath에서 Co 농도의 변화에 따른 Ni-Co 필름의 특성 변화)

  • Sulfamate-chloride baths were fabricated to study the properties of the electrodeposited Ni and NiCo thin films. The dependences of current efficiency, deposit composition of Ni and Co, residual stress, surface morphology and microstructure of electrodeposited Ni and NiCo thin films on CoCl2 concentration in sulfamate-chloride baths were investigated. The current efficiency was measured to be more than about 90%, independent of the changes of CoCl2 concentration in the baths. Residual stress of Ni and NiCo thin films was increased from about 45 to about 250 MPa with varying CoCl2 concentration from 0 to 0.210 M CoCl2 in the baths and then reached to a plateau, about 250 MPa above 0.420 M CoCl2 concentration. Nodular surface morphologies were observed at most CoCl2 concentrations in the baths except 0.210 M. NiCo thin film electrodeposited from the bath with 0.210 M CoCl2 concentration showed an acicular surface morphology. Pure Ni thin film consists of FCC(111), FCC(200), FCC(220), and FCC(311) peaks without any preferred orientation. On the other hand NiCo thin films make up of HCP(100), FCC(111), HCP(101), FCC(200), FCC(220) or HCP(110), FCC(311) or HCP(112) and FCC(222) peaks. It was revealed from the analysis of XRD result that FCC(111) peak at the NiCo thin film electrodeposited from the bath with 0.084 M CoCl2 concentration can be regarded as the preferred orientation. However the peak of the preferred orientation was changed to FCC(220) or HCP(110) above 0.084 M CoCl2 concentration in the baths. Then the intensity of FCC(220) or HCP(110) peak was gradually decreased with increasing CoCl2 concentration further. The crystalline size of pure Ni thin film was observed to be about 53 ㎛ and those of NiCo thin films were in the range of 35~45 ㎛.

  • Several new nickel(II) complexes, [Ni(L)X$_2$ and [Ni(L)$_2$]Cl$_2$ (L = L$_1$, L$_2$ ; X = Cl$^-$, Br$^-$, I$^-$) have been synthesized by reacting NiX$_2$ or NiX$_2$, 6H$_2$O with aminophosphines(L) wherein L is 1,2-bis{(diphenylphosphino)amino}propane(L$_1$) or 1,2-bis{(diphenylphosphino)amino}ethane(L$_2$). These complexes are characterized by the optical spectroscopic methods (UV/Vis, CD, IR, $^1$H-NMR, and $^{31}$P-NMR) together with conductometer and elemental analysis. The complex with I$^-$ is tetrahedral, where the complexes with Cl$^-$ or Br$^-$ are square planar. The complexes, [Ni(L)X$_2$](X = Cl$^-$, Br$^-$) become tetrahedral, as they react with methyl iodide. The Ni(L)X$_2$ complexes underwent solvolysis with a various organic solvents such is EtOH, DMSO, THF and DMF.

Pyro-Electrochemical Reduction of a Mixture of Rare Earth Oxides and NiO in LiCl molten Salt (LiCl 용융염에서 NiO를 혼합한 희토류 산화물의 파이로 전해환원 특성)

  • An electrochemical reduction of a mixture of NiO and rare earth oxides has been conducted to increase the reduction degree of rare earth oxides. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurement was carried out to determine the electrochemical reduction behavior of the mixed oxide in molten LiCl medium. Constant voltage electrolysis was performed with various supplied charges to understand the mechanism of electrochemical reduction of the mixed oxide as a working electrode. After completion of the electrochemical reduction, crystal structure of the reaction intermediates was characterized by using an X-ray diffraction method. The results clearly demonstrate that the rare earth oxide was converted to RE-Ni intermetallics via co-reduction with NiO.

  • Environmental concerns over the use of fossil fuels and their resource constraints have spurred increasing interest of renewable energy, and the needs for energy storage from the renewable resources is getting rapidly increase. Na/$NiCl_2$ cell could be use electric vehicles as well as energy storage, because it has a high energy-efficiency, environmental-friendly, low cost. However, there remain several issues on improvement of materials, component, cell design, and process, to use in broad applications and to penetrate to market. This paper offers a comprehensive review on R&D status of the structure, chemistry, key materials, and cell design & manufacture for Na/$NiCl_2$ cells.

Solvent Extraction of Copper from $CuCl_2-NiCl_2-CoCl_2$ Solutions by Alamine336 and LIX84 ($CuCl_2-NiCl_2-CoCl_2$용액으로부터 Alamine336과 LIX84에 의한 구리의 용매추출)

  • Solvent extraction experiments have been performed to separate copper from $CuCl_2$-$NiCl_2$-$CoCl_2$$ solutions using Alamine336 and LIX84. The complex formation tendency between metal ions and chloride ion had a great effect on the distribution coefficients of Cu, Co and Ni ions and separation factor of Cu to Co and Ni. In the experimental ranges of chloride ion concentration from 0.5 to 4.0 M, LIX84 was superior to Alamine336 in separating copper from cobalt. When the volume percentage of LIX84 and Alamine336 was varied from 5 to 40%, LIX84 was more effective than Alamine336 in separating Cu from Co and Ni in solutions in which the chloride ion concentration was 1.0 M.

A Study on the Evaluation of Teratogenecity of Chemical by Korean Brown Frog Embryo, Rana dybowskii (산개구리 배아를 활용한 화학물질의 기형성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • The Frog Embryo Teratogenesis Assay-Xenopus(FETAX) protocol was recently adopted as a valuable tool fur evaluating chemical toxicity and the effect of environmental contaminants in frogs. In this study, the teratogenecity of NiCl$_2$, Carbofuran, Diazinon were determined in the Korean frog, Rana dybowskii using the FETAX protocol. The mortality rate and the percentage of malformed larvae were investigated by probit analysis, The teratogenic concentrations(EC$_{50}$) of NiCl$_2$, Carbofuran and Diazinon were 0.4 and 1.6 and 1.9 mg/1. The embryolethal concentrations(LC$_{50}$) of NiCl$_2$, Carbofuran and Diazinon were 17.6 and 41.5 and 20.2mg/1. The teratogenic indices (TI=LC$_{50}$/EC$_{50}$) were 43.8 for NiCl$_2$, 26.0 for Carbofuran and 10.6 for Diazinon. NiCl$_2$, Carbofuran and Diazinon were shown to be potent teratogens for Rana dybowskii embryo, causing concentration related increase of edema, tail and abdomen. The study results reveal that NiCl$_2$, Carbofuran and Diazinon suppress the development of embryos at relatively low concentrations. Therefore, the Rana dybowskii embryo teratogenesis assay system was proven to be a useful tool to evaluate the toxicity of environmental pollutants.lutants.
