  • KAERI has contrived 14 kinds of spacer grid shapes of its own since 1997 and applied for Korean and US patents. To date. KAERI has obtained US and Korean patents for 6 kinds of spacer grid shapes among them. Tn this study. performance test on two spacer grid shapes that are assumed to be the most effective candidates for the spacer grid of the next generation nuclear fuel in Korea was carried Qui through the mechanical/structural test and analysis. The test result has shown thai the performances of the candidates are better or not worse than that of the current spacer grid.

  • An XML is an markup language which has been focused on the next generation Web programming language. It easily represents the complex structure of a document, and it is possible to provide the access control over each component of an XML document. An implicit authorization technique means that granting an authorization to a node has effect on granting the same implicit authorization to its all descendants. Therefore, it enhances the time for the authorization grant and reduces the memory required for the authorization information. An authorization technique using an intention type and a authorization replacement solves a redundancy problem and decides whether the access is possible or the authorization conflict occurs at the first attempt.

  • LED is expected as an environmentally friendly next generation light source with its good reliability and long lifetime. In this paper, we propose the PV-Battery Driven LED Security Lighting using the LabVIEW program. The remote monitoring is a program for monitoring the voltage and current that made from PV-Battery Driven LED security lighting in remote area. The main subject of this paper is about making the more useful monitoring program to get and save the data from LED Security Lighting. We develop a prototype of the proposed system.

  • The B2-ordered NiAl has attracted much attention as one of the candidates as a next generation high temperature material, because it has a high melting temperature, a low specific gravity and an excellent high temperature oxidation resistance. However, the application of NiAl to structural materials needs the improvement of its brittleness at room temperature. The study was carried out on the relation between several properties of NiAl and some variation of Ni content within NiAl phase, which means deviations from the stoichiometric composition. The main results were as follows; (i) Good ductility was obtained at the testing temperature more than 1073 K irrespective of Ni content. (ii) Increasing Ni content offered preferable tensile properties. (iii) Every NiAl with varying Ni contents showed the superior oxidation resistance.

  • With the development of next-generation sequencing technology, ever-expanding databases of genetic information from various organisms are available to researchers. However, our ability to study the biological meaning of genetic information and to apply our genetic knowledge to produce genetically modified crops and animals is limited, largely due to the lack of molecular tools to manipulate genomes. Recently, targeted cleavage of the genome using engineered DNA scissors called zinc finger nucleases (ZFNs) has successfully supported the precise manipulation of genetic information in various cells, animals, and plants. In this review, we will discuss the development and applications of ZFN technology for genome engineering and highlight recent reports on its use in plants.

  • In micro automation technology, the concurrent realization of a high resolution and a large operating rage has been achieved by a dual actuator, usually called by piggy-back system, conventionally. But, because of its manufacturing cost, the complexity of control, and the limit of overall bandwidth, the contract-free and single servo actuators have been suggested with specific applications. In this paper, we suggest a novel non-contact surface actuator suing combination of the Lorentz force and the magnetized force, and discuss the actuating principles including an analytical approach. Differently from the existing planar system, an operating range of the suggested system can be expanded by an additional attachment of active elements. Therefore, it is estimated to be suitable for the next-generation moving system.

  • In the 21 st century, broadcasting, communication, and computer have been integrated due to the development of digital technology. Accordingly, to overcome the limit of respective communication media and to maintain them, their independent area shall not be classified. This study is to examine the future environment of digital TV broadcasting, to analyze customizing type service and interactive type TV technology, and to make asymmetric interactive digital TV publication broadcasting system, which is TV broadcasting in the next generation to treat visual image, sound, and various data all together by harmonizing broadcasting and communication like ISDB(Integrate Service Digital Broadcasting). In addition, to develop service on publication broadcasting with high quality, this study is tn propose to develop relative devices for TV/PC reception to realize a new communication type TV publication broadcasting, by analyzing technology for producing, sending, transmitting, receiving, and saving to apply to customizing type interactive system and by examining its application.

  • On February 20, 2003, the FCC, the regulator in US, adopted its UNE triennial Review decision, the most sweeping ruling affecting the telecommunications industry since 1996. The FCC adopted a policy of preserving access to the legacy network, while deregulating new, "next generation" networks utilizing fiber facilities. Baby bell like Verizon, SBC strongly insisted that the FCC should relax the unbundling rules to be enlarged the network investment of telecommunication providers. However, this FCC′s determination looks like the partial acceptance of their assertions. This paper mainly will review the existing studies about the impact of UNEs on investment incentives and then find out some implications to be applied in Korea.

  • Double random phase encryption (DRPE) is one of the well-known optical encryption techniques, and many techniques with DRPE have been developed for information security. However, most of these techniques may not solve the fundamental security problem caused by using fixed phase masks for DRPE. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a key phase mask updating scheme for DRPE to improve its security, where a spatial light modulator (SLM) is used to implement key phase mask updating. In the proposed scheme, updated key data are obtained by using previous image data and the first phase mask used in encryption. The SLM with the updated key is used as the second phase mask for encryption. We provide a detailed description of the method of encryption and decryption for a DRPE system using the proposed key updating scheme, and simulation results are also shown to verify that the proposed key updating scheme can enhance the security of the original DRPE.
