We presents a dynamic modeling of 4-wheel 2-DOF. WMR. The classic dynamic model utilizes a greatly simplified wheel motion representation and using of a simplified dynamic model confronts with a problem for accurate position control of wheeled mobile robot. In this paper, we treats the dynamic model for describes relationship between the wheel actuator force/torque and WMR motion through the use of Newton's equilibrium laws. To calculate the WMR position in real time, we introduced the Dead-Reckoning algorithms and the simulation result show that the proposed dynamic model is useful. We can be easily extend the proposed WMR model to mobile robot of similar type and this type of methodology is useful to analyze, design and control any kinds of rolling robots.
In the equilibrium theory of tides by Newton, tide on the Earth is a phenomenon driven by differential gravity contributed both by the Sun and the Moon. Due to the direct link of the generic tidal effect to the oceanic tides, college students in the earth science education department are exposed to this theory through oceanography lectures as well as astronomy lectures. Common oceanography textbooks adopt a non-inertial reference frame fixed to the Earth in which the fictitious, centrifugal force appears. This has a potential risk to provide misconceptions among students in various aspects including the followings: 1) this is how Newton originally derived the equilibrium theory of tides, and 2) the tide is a phenomenon appearing only in rotating systems. We show that in astronomy, a much simpler description, which employs the inertial frame, is generally used to explain tides and thus causes less confusion. We argue that the description used in astronomy is preferable both in the viewpoints of simplicity and ease of interpretation. Moreover, on a historical basis, an inertial frame was adopted by Newton in Principia to explain tides. Thus, the description used in astronomy is consistent with Newton's original approach. We also present various astrophysical tides which do not comply with the concept of centrifugal force in general. We therefore argue that the description used in oceanography should be compensated by that in astronomy, due to its complexity, historical inconsistency and limited applicability.
In this paper are presented kinematic and dynamic modeling and path-tracking of four-wheeled mobile robots with 2 d.o.f haying the limited drive-torques. Controllability of wheeled-mobile robots is revealed by the kinematic model. Instantaneously coincident coordinate system, force/torque propagation and Newton's equilibrium law are used to drive the dynamic model. When drive-torques generated by inverse dynamics exceed the limitation, we make wheeled-mobile robots follow the reference path by modifying the planned reference trajectory with time-scaling. The controller is introduced to compensate for error owing to modeling uncertainty and measurement noise. And simulation results prove that method proposed by this paper is efficient.

A numerical methodology is presented in this paper for the geometrically non-linear analysis of slender uni-dimensional structural elements under unilateral contact constraints. The finite element method together with an updated Lagrangian formulation is used to study the structural system. The unilateral constraints are imposed by tensionless supports or foundations. At each load step, in order to obtain the contact regions, the equilibrium equations are linearized and the contact problem is treated directly as a minimisation problem with inequality constraints, resulting in a linear complementarity problem (LCP). After the resulting LCP is solved by Lemke's pivoting algorithm, the contact regions are identified and the Newton-Raphson method is used together with path following methods to obtain the new contact forces and equilibrium configurations. The proposed methodology is illustrated by two examples and the results are compared with numerical and experimental results found in literature.
In a shipyard, block lifting is an important process in the production of ships and offshore structures. Block lifting is a sensitive process because lifting blocks have to be erected with exact positions and orientations. If we use a numerical method for the process, it is important to find tensions of wires and positions of equalizers to maintain the initial equilibrium position of the block. At this time, equations of motion of the block should be solved to calculate the initial equilibrium position of the block. Because the solving technique changes according to the number of equalizers, a suitable equation for the corresponding problem is required. In this study, three types of equations are proposed to find the initial equilibrium position of the block according to the number of equalizers. The Newton-Raphson's method is used to solve nonlinear simultaneous equations and the optimization method is used to determine the appropriate solution to the undetermined problem. To evaluate the applicability of the proposed methods, the dynamic simulations are performed using the tensions calculated from the proposed methods, and the results are discussed. The results show that the proposed methods can be effectively used to determine initial equilibrium position of the block for the block lifting.
In this paper the geometrically nonlinear continuum plate finite element model, hitherto not reported in the literature, is developed using the total Lagrange formulation. With the layerwise displacement field of Reddy, nonlinear Green-Lagrange small strain large displacements relations (in the von Karman sense) and linear elastic orthotropic material properties for each lamina, the 3D elasticity equations are reduced to 2D problem and the nonlinear equilibrium integral form is obtained. By performing the linearization on nonlinear integral form and then the discretization on linearized integral form, tangent stiffness matrix is obtained with less manipulation and in more consistent form, compared to the one obtained using laminated element approach. Symmetric tangent stiffness matrixes, together with internal force vector are then utilized in Newton Raphson's method for the numerical solution of nonlinear incremental finite element equilibrium equations. Despite of its complex layer dependent numerical nature, the present model has no shear locking problems, compared to ESL (Equivalent Single Layer) models, or aspect ratio problems, as the 3D finite element may have when analyzing thin plate behavior. The originally coded MATLAB computer program for the finite element solution is used to verify the accuracy of the numerical model, by calculating nonlinear response of plates with different mechanical properties, which are isotropic, orthotropic and anisotropic (cross ply and angle ply), different plate thickness, different boundary conditions and different load direction (unloading/loading). The obtained results are compared with available results from the literature and the linear solutions from the author's previous papers.
Mathematical modeling of combustion characteristics in HVOF thermal spray processes was carried out on the basis of equilibrium chemistry. The main objective of this work was the development of a computation code which allows to determine chemical composition of combustion products, adiabatic flame temperature, thermodynamic and transport properties. The free energy minimization method was employed with the descent Newton-Raphson technique for numerical solution of systems of nonlinear thermochemical equations. Adiabatic flame temperature was calculated by using a Newton#s iterative method incorporating the computation module of chemical composition. The performance of this code was verified by comparing computational results with data obtained by ChemKin code and in the literature. Comparisons between the calculated and measured flame temperatures showed a deviation less than 2%. It was observed that adiabatic flame temperature augments with increase in combustion pressure; the influence was significant in the region of low pressure but becomes weaker and weaker with increase in pressure. Relationships of adiabatic flame temperature, dissociation ratio and combustion pressure were also analyzed.
New program for springback analysis has been developed to predict the deformation of springback more accurately. Static implicit FEM is used to find out the static equilibrium after springback. The shell element with 6 dogrees of freedom and 4 nodes is carefully implemented to improve the accuracy and the compatibility between forming analysis and springback analysis. Co-rotational approach and Newton-Raphson nonlinear iteration are used to resolve the nonlinearity of large deformation. The benchmark results show that the developed program gives good predictions in comparison with experimental and other commercial S/W's results. As practical examples, U draw bending and S-rail problems are carried out by the developed program.
