A second order analytical solution of focused wave group interacting with a vertical wall

  • The interaction of focused wave groups with a vertical wall is investigated based on the second order potential theory. The NewWave theory, which represents the most probable surface elevation under a large crest, is adopted. The analytical solutions of the surface elevation, velocity potential and wave force exerted on the vertical wall are derived, up to the second order. Then, a parametric study is made on the interaction between nonlinear focused wave groups and a vertical wall by considering the effects of angles of incidence, wave steepness, focal positions, water depth, frequency bandwidth and the peak lifting factor. Results show that the wave force on the vertical wall for obliquely-incident wave groups is larger than that for normally-incident waves. The normalized peak crest of wave forces reduces with the increase of wave steepness. With the increase of the distance of focal positions from the vertical wall, the peak crest of surface elevation, although fluctuates, decreases gradually. Both the normalized peak crest and adjacent crest and trough of wave forces become larger for shallower water depth. For focused wave groups reflected by a vertical wall, the frequency bandwidth has little effects on the peak crest of wave elevation or forces, but the adjacent crest and trough become smaller for larger frequency bandwidth. There is no significant change of the peak crest and adjacent trough of surface elevation and wave forces for variation of the peak lifting factor. However, the adjacent crest increases with the increase of the peak lifting factor.

전지구·지역·국지연안 통합 파랑예측시스템 개발을 위한 여름철 태풍시기 풍파성장 파라미터 민감도 분석 (Sensitivity Analysis of Wind-Wave Growth Parameter during Typhoon Season in Summer for Developing an Integrated Global/Regional/Coastal Wave Prediction System)

  • In this study, an integrated wave model from global to coastal scales was developed to improve the operational wave prediction performance of the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA). In this system, the wave model was upgraded to the WaveWatch III version 6.07 with the improved parameterization of the source term. Considering the increased resolution of the wind input field and the introduction of the high-performance KMA 5th Supercomputer, the spatial resolution of global and regional wave models has been doubled compared to the operational model. The physical processes and coefficients of the wave model were optimized for the current KMA global atmospheric forecasting system, the Korean Integrated Model (KIM), which is being operated since April 2020. Based on the sensitivity experiment results, the wind-wave growth parameter (βmax) for the global wave model was determined to be 1.33 with the lowest root mean square errors (RMSE). The value of βmax showed the lowest error when applied to regional/coastal wave models for the period of the typhoon season when strong winds occur. Applying the new system to the case of August 2020, the RMSE for the 48-hour significant wave height prediction was reduced by 13.4 to 17.7% compared to the existing KMA operating model. The new integrated wave prediction system plans to replace the KMA operating model after long-term verification.

OLAFOAM에 기초한 원형유공케이슨 방파제의 반사율 및 작용파압에 관한 3차원시뮬레이션 (Three-dimensional Simulation of Wave Reflection and Pressure Acting on Circular Perforated Caisson Breakwater by OLAFOAM)

  • 본 연구에서는 어항 등과 같은 소규모 항에서 적용 가능한 격자블록결속에 의한 신형식의 원형유공케이슨을 제안하고, 이러한 방파제의 수리특성을 수치적으로 검토하였다. 본 연구에서 적용한 수치해석 코드는 최근들어 다양한 분야에서 공학적 문제해결을 위해 그 사용예가 급증하고 있는 공중사용허가서(오픈소스 기반) 라이선스 기반의 OpenFOAM(Open Field Operation and Manipulation)에 조파모듈, 투과층 해석모듈, 및 반사파 제어기능 등을 추가한 OLAFOAM을 적용하였다. 본 연구는 먼저, 1) 규칙파 하 3차원슬리트케이슨 방파제에서 파의 파압변동에 대해 기존의 실험 결과와 비교 검토하고, 2) 불규칙파를 조파하여 목표한 파의 재현과 주파수스펙트럼을 비교 검토하여 OLAFOAM의 타당성을 검증하였다. 이로부터 슬리트케이슨과 유사한 원형유공케이슨이 설치된 일정수심의 3차원수치파동수조에 불규칙파를 조파하여 유수실 폭과 유의파고 및 유의주기의 변화에 따른 원형유공케이슨 방파제에서 월파량, 반사율, 파압분포 및 그들의 상호연관성을 면밀히 검토 분석하였다. 이로부터 파압분포는 불투과연직벽체에 대한 Goda 식의 결과보다 매우 작은 결과를 나타내었으며, 반사율은 기존의 슬리트케이슨에서 반사율의 변동범위 내에 존재하는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • For the past decade many effort has been delivered to understand noise generation mechanism for the small size engine cooling fan. As a result of that effort, the low noise fan such as the Wave fan was developed. Now the Wave fan becomes the well known low noise engine cooling fan. But in case of the new car development, the system in the new car will be different from previous one. So we need system optimization for every new model. In case of special application, a low speed fan should be developed to match system requirement. In that case, we meet severe engineering requirement by conducting fan system optimization instead of the simple fan scaling. In this paper, I will show you the system optimize process.

Efficient and Exact Extraction of the Object Wave in Off-axis Digital Holography

  • In this paper, a new method for spatial filtering in digital holography is proposed and verified by simulations compared to conventional methods. The new method is based on the simultaneous acquisition of two digital holograms, which can be separated by distinct spatial modulation, in a single image. Two holograms are generated by two reference waves, which have different spatial modulation orientations. Then, the overlapping region between the DC term and the object wave in the first hologram can be replaced with a less-overlapping region of the object wave in the second hologram because the whole image contains two holograms where the same objective wave has been recorded. In the simulation results, it is confirmed that the reconstructed image by the new method has better quality than for the original method.

  • To have high flatness quality of hot rolled strip in the hot strip finishing mill train, a new inter-stand tension profile measuring device of segmented looper roll type(coined as Flatness Sensing Inter-stand Looper, FlatSIL) and a new flatness control system have been developed in this study. The device measures the strip tension profile across the strip width and informs the strip wave pattern to new flatness control system where work roll bending mode to relieve the strip wave is determined. The existing automatic shape control system which uses laser type shape-meter installed at the outlet of the last finishing mill stand strip tension between down coiler and last finishig mill since the latent wave concealed by the strip tension between down coiler and last finishing mill stand cannot be measured by the laser distance-meter. Thus the existing shape control system is not able to control the flatness through the full strip length. The new flatness control system, however, works for full strip length during strip rolling as far as the tension profile measuring device and work roll bender are on. With the new flatness control system, work roll bender is automatically controller to minimize the latent wave of the running strip and the flatness quality as well as strip travelling stability has been noticeably improved from strip head through body to tail.

항만공진주기와 선박동요량을 고려한 항만가동율 산정 (Evaluation of Effective Working Days in a Harbor Considering Harbor Resonance and Moored Ship Motion)

  • 본 연구는 선박의 크기, 계류조건, 파랑의 주기, 파향 등에 의한 계류선박의 동요량을 해석하고 선박의 하역한계파고 산정 및 항만가동율을 평가하는 방법을 제시한 것이다. 본 방법은 포항신항 제8부두의 파랑관측자료를 이용하여 타당성을 검증하였다. 하역중단 시 파랑관측 자료는 파고 0.10~0.75 m, 주기 7~13 s 이었으며, 이때 계류된 선박은 800~35,000톤 이었다. 그리고 본 방법으로부터 산정된 제 8부두의 하역한계파고는 선박 5,000, 10,000, 30,000톤에 대하여 파고 0.19~0.50 m, 주기 8~12 s로 산정되었다. 본 방법의 결과는 연구대상 선박의 크기가 현지 선박의 크기와 정확히 일치하지는 않아서 파고는 관측치와 다소 차이를 보이지만 주기변화에 따라 하역한계파고를 잘 재현하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 파향이 75도 인 경우의 본 방법에 의한 하역한계파고는 현행 항만설계 기준에 제시된 한계파고 보다 장단주기 파를 고려하면 16~62% 감소하였고, 단주기 파랑만 고려하면 0~46%감소하였다. 특히 현행 항만설계기준의 하역한계하고는 10,000톤 이하의 선박에 대해서는 과대 평가되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 한편, 선박의 동요량을 고려하여 산정된 포항신항 제 8부두의 가동율은 설계기준 파고에 의한 가동율 에 비하여 6.5% 감소하였다.

안양 삼덕 지하주차공원 설계 (Design of Samduck Underground Parking Lot and Park in Anyang)

  • Anyang city performed a design competition for the existing paper mill site and this design is the work that was submitted to that competition. The design instructions for the competition were about an organic site which had harmony of aboveground park and underground parking lot, establishment of park planning which is fit for the features of nearby areas, and security of proper parking space. This design criteria set the design concept to a new wave of Anyang by reflecting the design instructions of prize contest and features of the site and developed it as three waves. First, the eco wave, one of three waves, means that it compose the ecological healthy park and urban environment together with restoration and preservation of Suamcheon (stream), and futhermore the waves that the natural resource are maintained in a delicate ecological balance as the water resource of Anyang city are connected to the axis of mountain resource. Secondly, the emotion wave indicates that the wave toward culture and art emotional park that stimulates and fills up the emotion to makes impoverishing modems minds fertile. Thirdly, the health wave means the waves toward a park to keep the sound of minds and bodies of Anyang citizens, and healthy and sound life as well as the waves toward a park to contribute the healthy leap and development of Anyang. These three waves will enrich the park keeping the dynamic relationship mutually and will be a new culture and art code of Anyang city.

  • Shear wane velocity is important property for grasping the dynamic characteristics of material. It is has been used in various fields such as non-destructive testings of structures, seismic analysis of geotechnical structures and maintenance of concrete structure, and etc. Usually, shear wave velocities of rock cores and concrete cylinders are determined by free-free resonance tests, Shear wave measurement in free-free resonance tests is not straightforward, as compared with rod wave and flexural wane measurements. In This study, a new technique using resonance features of flexural and shear waves were proposed in which the nodal points for the fundamental mode of flexural waves were employed to generate and measure the shear waves with the flexural waves minimized. The real measurements for aluminum cylinders proved validity and reliability of the proposed algorithm. In addition to the proposed algorithm, the effects of material properties on elastic-wave velocities in resonance measurements were also studied. In summary, a new framework of the resonance measurements for shear-wave velocity determination was established, based on the results of this thesis.

  • 복잡한 수심을 가진 연안해역에서 조석, 바람과 파에 의해 발생된 흐름의 영향까지를 고려한 파랑모델의 도입은 대부분의 해안공학 설계나 방재 문제에 매우 중요한 요소이다. 근해역에서 수심변화에 의한 굴절 및 천수효과, 흐름에 의해 유발되는 굴절효과, 파형경사에 따른 쇄파, 회절, 바람에 의한 파의 성장, 파랑 상호간의 간섭 및 에너지 재분포 등을 다를 수 있다는 점에서 정상상태 스펙트럼 모델의 현장 적용은 지금까지 여러 모델이 다루지 못한 부분을 해소하게 될 것이다. 본 연구에서는 부만 신항만 건설이 이루어지고 있는 가덕인접의 및은 수역에 대해 파랑의 변환과정을 보다 합리적으로 해석하기 위해 스펙트럼 모델을 적용하고 기존의 모델 결과와 비교 분석하는 것을 골자로 하고 있다. 이러한 시도가 가까운 장래에 항만설계 및 방재시스템 분야에서 보다 안전하고 널리 스펙트럼 모델을 적용하게 하는 계기가 되도록 의도하였다.
