  • Manufacturers have recently faced such problems like limitation of product differentiation, product commoditization and increased service request level from customers, Some manufacturers have responded the problems by introducing new business model, 'product and service integrated offering', which integrate product and its services as a bundled package, This article introduces innovative 7 cases of 'product and service integrated offering', and provides case analyses : types, methods, purposes, and risks of integration, The result of analysis, 4 strategic directions for product and service integration offering, could help manufacturers to adopt and build their model successfully, Further research topics are field survey with meaningful sample size including Business-to-Consumer and finding new causal relationships among variables like characteristics of industry, product, Integration, interaction between provider and customer, A development of design methodology on how to plan and develope a sound product service integration is the second next step for the research.

The Effect of Product Experience Through Virtual Reality on Product Evaluation

  • With the development of new technologies, virtual reality (VR) is emerging as a new consumer marketing platform. Yet, only a few studies have investigated VR in the consumption context. The current research explores how experiencing a product through VR influences consumer attitude and purchase intention for the product. Although assessing products in real life is believed to be more diagnostic than that through VR, the present research revealed that experiencing a product through VR could lead to a more positive attitude toward and higher purchase intention for the product. We also demonstrated that "enjoyment" has a mediating effect while evaluating the product through VR. To compare product experience through VR to that in real life, we employed the HTC Vive VR system to implement a VR environment. In the VR condition, participants evaluated plastic building blocks using a VR headset and a motion controller; and in the real life (reality) condition, they evaluted plastic building blocks printed using a 3D printer to make them look exactly the same as the blocks used in the VR condition. Finally, implications and suggestions are discussed.

  • The paper addresses an issue of industry-joint engineering education paradigm with the purpose of setting a new standard for engineering education by development and support of competitive curriculum for the interdisciplinary team-based product development, a specialized and innovative engineering education program. In the department of MSDE (Mechanical and System Design Engineering), students are educated via three major courses for targeting engineering design, Creative Engineering Design (freshman), Design Process (Senior), and Creative Product Development (Junior). All these courses are based on personal tool exercises for design software and hardware and team-project group activities of the students with other team members. This paper will briefly discuss the main focuses of these courses and case studies of the teaching results targeting the development of telecommunication device.

  • The Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) Rapid Product Development (RPD) Project is an international partnership formed to build a pre-competitive research and development program that will address the integration of new technologies in manufacturing and provide an infrastructure for industry to cooperate much more closely in the product development cycle. In this explanatory paper, a research trend of the RPD project is briefly presented, together with its background and state-of-the-art, focusing on objectives and target results of its sub-projects which include rapid development of functional parts and tools, validation and reverse engineering, and information logistic system.

  • The corporate R&D(Research and Development) has a primary role of new product development and its potential is the most crucial factor to estimate corporate future value. However, its systemic inadequacies and inefficiencies, the shorten product life-cycle to satisfy customer needs, the global operations by outsourcing strategy, and the reduction of product cost, are starting to expose to R&D business processes. The three-phased execution strategy for R&D innovation is introduced to establish master plan for new R&D model. From information technology point of view, PLM(Product Life-cycle Management) is one of the business total solutions in product development area. It is not a system, but the strategic business approach that collaboratively manage the product from beginning stage to end of life in all business areas PLM functions and capabilities are usually used as references to re-design new R&D process. BPA(Business Process Assessment) and 5DP(Design Parameters) in PI6sigma developed by Samsung SDS Consulting division are introduced to establish R&D master plan and re-design process respectively. This research provides a case study for R&D process innovation. How process assessment and PMM(Process Maturity Model) can be applied in business processes, and also it explains process re-design by 5DP method.

기능 모델의 효과적인 활용을 통한 역공학 프로세스의 개선에 관한 연구 (On Improving the Reverse Engineering Process by Effectively Utilizing the Functional Models)

  • The necessity of the new system development arises in both defence and commercial systems industry either when a breakthrough in technology needs to be realized in the form of a brand-new system or when the existing product already in operation needs to be upgraded to satisfy the increasing stakeholder's requirements. In the latter case, it is not rare that specific system technical specifications on the existing products are not available. The purpose of this study is to investigate how to handle the difficulty when an upgraded system is required to be developed based on the existing product whose detailed technical specifications cannot be obtained. A step-by-step process is described based on the reverse engineering of the existing product. As a result, a logical system model is obtained for the product. The process developed is further enhanced and evaluated by the computer-aided system engineering tool. The resulting logical system model should be helpful in the next phase of the new product development.

  • 제조업체의 성공은 고객의 요구를 파악하는 능력과 이들 요구를 만족시키면서, 얼마나 최소비용을 투자하여 제품화를 신속히 개발하는가에 달려있다. 기업의 목표를 달성하기 위해서 제조 판매 및 마케팅 그리고 제품 디자인 및 개발기간과 같은 여러 요소들이 복합적으로 적절히 조화를 이루어야만 한다. 이 논문에서는 여러 요소 중 신제품 개발기간에 초점을 맞추어 현재 각 기업에서 많이 사용되고 있는 6 시그마 기법을 적용하여 새로운 제품의 개발기간을 단축시키기 위한 방법론을 제시한다.

  • From designers' viewpoint, today, the major environmental change can be found in the digital environment. Especially, more than the development of physical product which can be characterized as the backup of old function and realization of new function in the field of product design, as the digital product development of program style that exists without substance is deepened, the development of the digital design media has been accelerating. However, it is the recent matter that the link with educational system about the added value which could be embodied by digitech, and the interdisciplinary research about producing goods become regular. The construction of the industrial design development process based on the digital environment must be the major research object. Therefore, the goal of my research is to present the concept of the product design process model required in the digital environment.

  • Company strategy that considers market trend becomes a more important key to success in the new product development. Well-being as a present social trend has created a huge new product market. but with increasing number of camouflaged well-being products that are not fulfilled consumer needs. The purpose of this study is to understand the concept of well-being products from a consumer point of view an to find five consumer values based on the consumer value model of Sheth, Newman, and Gross(1991) through conducting content analysis from semi-structured individual In-depth Interviews. This study has a significance in identifying the detailed consumer value attributes and influence factors by collecting practical and reach qualitative data in the lack of systematic research of domestic well-being market and its products from a consumer point of view. The result of this study will be a foundation of future quantitative researches and provide a guideline to companys' well-being marketing strategy.

선진국 제조기업의 신제품 성공요인에 관한 비교 연구: 다수준 접근 방식 (A comparison of new product success factors across advanced countries: A multi-level approach)

  • In this paper, we investigate the influence of factors on the firm, industry, and country levels on the new product development performance (NPD) of manufacturing firms in advanced economies. The resource-based view, industrial organization theory and institutional theory have established that firm-, industry- and country-level factors are all relevant for the NPD of firms. However, little is known about the relative importance of factors at the three different levels across countries, as prior studies on firms' NPD have focused on specific countries and levels of analysis. Our analysis of survey data from 1,437 manufacturing firms in nine advanced OECD countries shows that while firm-level factors are generally better predictors of firms' innovativeness than either industry- or country-level factors, the results strongly differ across countries, indicating that the relative importance of antecedents of innovativeness is country-specific rather than universal.
