Hypsizygus marmoreus is a mushroom with abundant flavor and medicinal properties. However, its application is limited by problems such as long cultivation period, low biological efficiency, and microbiological contamination; therefore, there is a substantial need for development of new cultivars of this species. In this study, 55 strains of H. marmoreus were subjected to inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) analysis to identify markers for the selection of mother strains for breeding from the collected germplasm. ISSR 13 and 15 were confirmed as polymorphic markers. The three strains (KMCC03106, KMCC03107, and KMCC03108) with white cap color were found to be genetically closely related upon UPGMA analysis of both ISSR 13 and 15. Based on the PCR analysis results for ISSR 15, the collected germplasm were differentiated into three groups according to the strain collection year. Thus, ISSR 15 could be a marker for determining the phylogeny of cap color and genetic variations according to the strain collection year. These results suggest that ISSR markers can be effective tools for the selection of mother strains for breeding of H. marmoreus.
3-Chloro-2-[4-chloro-2-fluoro-5-(5-methyl-3-phenyl-4,5-dihydroisoxazol-5-ylmethoxy)-phenyl]-4,5,6,7-tetrahy dro-2H-indazole(EK-5439) demonstrated rice selectivity and herbicidal activity on annual weeds, such as Echinochloa oryzicola, Monochoria vaginalis, Lindernia pyxidaria, Rotala indica, Aneilema keisak, Cyperus difformis, and Ludwigia prostrata at doses of 16-63 g a.i./ha. However, the application window was limited from pre-emergence to 5 days after transplanting. The control efficacy of EK-5439 on barnyardgrass was 4 times higher than that of oxadiazon. EK-5439 was excellently safe to the 16 different transplanted rice cultivars treated 2 days after transplanting. These compounds have the mechanism of action on the chlorophyll biosynthesis like protoporphyrinogen IX oxidase inhibitors.
Korean lawn grass, which belongs to Zoysia genus in Gramineae family, is one of the major turfgrass which is widely adapted to its native niches in the temperate region of the north east Asia through tropical regions including Philippine, Thailand and Australia. The Turfgrass Information Center' database provides 5,340 descriptive records including 638 referred papers and 1,370 technical reports concerning 'Zoysia'. The database focused on researches on golf courses and lawn care industries. The researches provide informations on seed technology and use of plant protectant for pest management in turf management industries. The purpose of this study is to analyze and classify the research contents of zoysiagrasses which have been published in Korean journals. The total number of research papers published in Korean journals were 274 including 102, 38, and 134 in the 'Botanical', 'Environmental' and 'Cultural' researches, respectively. Publication in foreign journals by Korean investigators were not counted in this research. Research fields concerning golf course maintenance and plant protectant are believed to be necessary when compared to international trends. Moreover, advanced research efforts for the development of new cultivars with various environmental and disease resistance should be accomplished.
This study was conducted to establish the tissue culture system for Korean domestic Miscanthus sinensis, which is used in various purposes such as forage, and bio-energy resources. With the mature seed of Miscanthus, optimum concentrations of plant growth regulators were identified for an efficient callus induction and regeneration. Among the treatments of 1~10 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 2,4-D, IBA, or NAA, callus induction rate was highest (85.3%) on MS medium containing 5 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 2,4-D. Under the condition, the callus were efficiently induced and proliferated with comparably lower frequencies of callus browning. In shoot regeneration, the treatment of NAA combined with BAP seemed to contribute more efficient conditions to shoot regeneration than those of NAA with Kinetin or 2-iP. Especially, regeneration efficiency and number of regenerated plants were 83.7% and 5.5 in 3 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NAA with 5 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ BAP, respectively, which were higher frequencies than those in NAA with Kinetin or 2-iP. In results, 5 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 2,4-D and 3 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NAA combined with 5 $mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ BAP were efficient for embryogenic callus induction and regeneration of Miscanthus. This system would be useful for mass-propagation and developing new cultivars via tissue culture of Miscanthus sinensis.

In days to calyx-flex stage test, flower development affected by light intensity, light duration and the prevailing temperature. As, 'Jacaranda' variety shorter in under 46 days of flower bud formation and 13 days of calyx-flex stage than the other variety with 'Queen Elizabeth' control variety. About cut flower only 'Grand Vicki Brown' (as within 46 days of flower formation, 13 days of calyx stage and 'Jacaranda', both with shorter plants than the other varieties produced cut flower classified as short and medium-stemmed cut flowers. 'Jacaranda', 'Vicki Brown', 'Golden Times', 'Champagne', 'Osiana', and 'Queen Elizabeth (control variety)' flowered earlier from 46.7 to 50.8 days from pruning. Flower development was likewise faster in all the above mentioned cultivars; while 'Tineke' had significantly delayed flower development reaching calyx-flex stage from 0.5 cm bud size after 51.0 days. The top ten high yielding varieties were 'American Orange', with a net income of P3,081,676.00; 'Yellow Island' with P1,572,874.00; 'Frosty Pink' with P1,085,183.00; 'Champagne' with P980,620.00; 'Coral Pink' with P959,669.00; 'Lara Pink' with P918,444.00; 'Lara Orange' with P714,252.00; 'Grand Gala' with P705,787.00; 'Golden Times' with P806,489.00; and 'Lady X' with P778,060.00 net returns.
The periods of germination and seedling emergence, epidermal cell size and the activities of peroxidase and amylase of 6 rice cultivars were examined to clarify the response to 3 temperature conditions, constant temperatures of 27$^{\circ}C$ and 17$^{\circ}C$ and alternating temperature of 24/1$0^{\circ}C$, in the dark condition. The periods of germination and seedling emergence were increased and the germination was delayed greater than the seedling emergence under 17$^{\circ}C$ and 24/l$0^{\circ}C$, compared with 27$^{\circ}C$. Lengths of epidermal cell of coleoptile and first leaf were reduced, but the widths were increased in the 17$^{\circ}C$ and 24/1$0^{\circ}C$, compared with 27$^{\circ}C$. The activities of peroxidase in the emerging shoots and amylase in the germinating seeds were reduced in 17$^{\circ}C$ and 24/1$0^{\circ}C$. There were significant correlations between peroxidase activities and the widths of epidemal cell of first leaf and between amylase activities and periods of germination. Varietal differences of all observations were remarkable in 17$^{\circ}C$ and 24 /1$0^{\circ}C$.

Rice is the world's three major crops that is the staple food of Asian. Japonica type rice is consumed in Korea. Rice cultivation area decreases steadily. That is affected by decrease of the farm income with the inventory of 1.7 million tons, which is 2 to 3 times more than the optimal amount due to the decrease in the consumption of rice per person and cultivate high yield varieties. In recent years, as income level has improved, interest in health has been high and consumption for health food has been steadily increasing. For health food, rice is added by adding grains such as millet, sorghum, oats, beans and colored rice rather than white rice. In 1997, RDA(Rural Development Administration) developed black rice 'Heuknambyeo', and then 20 varieties were bred until 2017. In CBARES(Chungbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services), we have developed new rice varieties 'Cheongpungheukchal' in 2010, 'Cheongpungheukhyangchal' in 2014, 'Cheongpungheukchal' is high in farming preference because of high yield. Black rice has high content of GABA and water-soluble phenol, DPPH radical scavenging activity, and consumers are interested in the function in the body. Therefore, functional and antioxidant activities(anthocyanin, total polyphenol, ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ inhibition) and antioxidant activities(ABTs, DPPH) were analyzed by comparing white and black rice. Testing varieties are 'Chucheongbyeo', best quality cultivars 'Daebo' and 'Samgwang' as white rice which are cultivated much in Chungbuk area, and black rice are 10 varieties including 'Cheongpungheukchal', 'Cheongpungheukhyangchal', 'Josaengheukchal' and so on. It has transplanted on 25th May, at CBARES research paddy by 100% fertilizer recommendation rate. Harvesting time was 50 days after heading by varieties, and has researched growth properties, yield and yield components, functional and antioxidant activities. Anthocyanin content was not measured because there was no pigmented in white rice, the highest value of anthocyanin content was 'Shintoheukmi' and in the range of 125.6~249.6mg/100g by black rice varieties. Total polyphenol content was high 'Cheongpungheukchal' and 'Shintoheukmi' and in the range of 96.68~244.34 mg/100g in black rice, white rice lower than blackish rice at 19.84~22.51mg/100g. ${\alpha}-glucosidase$ inhibition was high 'Cheongpungheukchal', 'Cheongpungheukhyangchal' and 'Shintoheukmi' in the rage of 75.87~98.85% by black rice varieties, especially 'Samgwang' was 80.75% and the other white rice was higher than 58~68%.

To increase rice production, manipulating plant architecture, especially developing new high-yielding cultivars with erect leaves, is crucial in rice breeding programs. Leaf inclination angle determines the light extinction coefficient (k) of the canopy. Erect leaves increase light penetration into the canopy and enable dense plantings with a high leaf area index, thus increasing biomass production and grain yield. Because of erect leaves, the high-yielding indica rice cultivar 'Takanari' has smaller k during ripening than 'Koshihikari', a japonica cultivar with good eating quality. In our previous study, using chromosome segment substitution lines (CSSLs) derived from a cross between 'Takanari' and 'Koshihikari', we detected seven quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for leaf inclination angle on chromosomes 1 (two QTLs), 2, 3, 4, 7, and 12. In this study, we developed a near-isogenic line (NIL-3) carrying a 'Takanari' allele for increased leaf inclination angle on chromosome 3 in the 'Koshihikari' genetic background. We compared k, dry matter production, and grain yield of NIL-3 with those of 'Koshihikari' in the field from 2013 to 2016. NIL-3 had higher inclination angles of the flag, second, and third leaves at full heading and 3 (- 4) weeks after full heading and smaller k of the canopy at the ripening stage. Biomass at full heading and leaf area index at full heading and at harvest did not significantly differ between NIL-3 and 'Koshihikari'. However, biomass at harvest was significantly greater in NIL-3 than in 'Koshihikari' due to a higher net assimilation rate at the ripening stage. The photosynthetic rates of the flag and third leaves did not differ between NIL-3 and Koshihikari at ripening. Grain yield was higher in NIL-3 than 'Koshihikari'. Higher panicle number per square meter in NIL-3 contributed to the higher grain yield of NIL-3. We conclude that the QTL on chromosome 3 increases dry matter and grain production in rice by increasing leaf inclination angle.

To develop rice cultivars with increased biomass and grain yield, superior lodging resistance is an essential trait. The new breeding approach can be adopted for the improvement of stem lodging resistance by enhancing culm strength. The resistance to breaking type lodging is attributed to bending moment of basal culm (M), which is composed of the section modulus (SM) and bending stress (BS). The resistance to the bending type lodging is attributed to flexural rigidity (FR) of stem, which is composed of the secondary moment of inertia (SMI) and Young's modulus (YM). Starch and cell wall components such as cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin also play a significant role in physical strength of culm, and thus affect lodging. Leaf Star has a superior lodging resistance due to its thick and stiff culm because of its high M and FR compared with Koshihikari. Furthermore, Leaf Star contains high densities of hemicellulose, cellulose and low lignin density in culm compared with Koshihikari. In this study, we performed QTL analysis for these traits associated with culm strength, using 94 recombinant inbred lines (RILs, $F_8$), derived from a cross between Leaf Star and Koshihikari. The SM in the RILs showed a continuous distribution. QTLs for SM were detected on chrs.2, 3 and 10. Leaf Star alleles increased SM on chrs. 2 and 3, but Koshihikari allele increased on chr.10. These QTLs overlapped with those QTLs identified using backcrossed inbred line derived from a cross between Chugoku 117 and Koshihikari, the parents of Leaf Star. The FR in Leaf Star was higher than that in Koshihikari due to the larger SMI and YM. 3 QTLs for SMI were detected on chrs.2, 3 and 10. Leaf Star alleles increased SMI on chrs.2 and 3, and Koshihikari alleles increased on chr.10. One QTL on chr.3 and two QTLs on chr.5 for hollocelulose content were detected with Leaf Star alleles contribution. Moreover, two QTLs were detected for hemicellulose density on chrs.3 and 5. Leaf Star allele increased hemicellulose density on chr.5, and Koshihikari allele increased on chr.3. Furthermore, two QTLs for cellulose density were detected on chr.5, and one QTL on chr.2. For starch content, one QTL on chr.3 and two QTLs on chr.5 with Leaf Star alleles contribution were detected. TULK-6 carrying a chromosome segment of Leaf Star on chr.5 in the Koshihikari genetic background showed higher densities of starch and hemicellulose than those in Koshihikari. These results suggest that the detected QTLs for culm strength could be utilized for the improvement of lodging resistance in rice by marker-assisted selection.

A total of eleven Chinese cabbage accessions were used for microspore culture and were grown to take basal data. Based on the collected data, breeding materials were chosen to develop new improved Chinese cabbage cultivars. The range of microspore-derived embryoid taken from flower buds was 1.6 to 35.4 embryoids. The embryoids from IT26110 and IT26153 among the Chinese cabbages were more than 34 per flower bud. The viability rate after cold treatment was low from 0.2 to 11.7%. The range of fertility rate was 7.7 to 58.8% in general but the IT26118, IT26122, IT26128, IT26130, and IT26164 were more than 50%. The result of their seed production ability by selfing was 11.9 seeds per siliqua in IT26128 while the others were less than 10 seeds. In the microspore culture using parents of different hereditary, the number of embryoids, the number of plants, the rate of fertility and their pure seed production ability appeared to be very different in doubled haploid lines obtained from fertile plants of Chinese cabbage.
