  • In Pusan port, the studies, which analysis container cargo volumes by using forecasting methods and research about container logistics system, etc., have been continuously performed. But, in Pusan port, this study on an evaluation of traffic congestion has been scarcely performed until now. Especially, when changing and extending a berth, and constructing a new port, it is very important to examine this field. And it should be considered.   • Yangsan ICD (Inland Container Depot) has played an important role for Busan Port and Korea's port & logistics industries, increasing international logistics competitiveness and containers' transportation competitiveness in Busan region dealing with 1330 thousand TEU in 2005, since its opening in March 2000. However, it is necessary to seek new measures to revitalize Yangsan ICD, since its cargo volume decreased rapidly owing to the opening of Busan New Port and hinterland in 2006. This study constructed an evaluation model using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and conducted a survey targeting local businesses and persons concerned in Yangsan ICD to seek measures for revitalization. The results suggest that Yangsan ICD needs to switch functions to logistics centers (terminal facilities, logistics warehouse) for revitalization considering its advantage of facility location. Moreover, by extending the utilization period and securing building-to-land ratio, existing and new businesses' stable activity should be guaranteed. Furthermore, utilizing facilities such as the railway station in ICD, an active railway revitalization policy may increase cargo volume. Yangsan ICD should perform its role as an inland logistics depot through the revitalization of railway freight transportation in the national logistics system focusing on road freight transportation.

The Characteristics of Port for Log Import (원목 수입의 주요 항구별 특성)

  • Republic of Korea (ROK) log import companies have clustered around In-cheon, Jeon-buk and Busan. This reason related to port for log import. This study analyzed the quantity of Whole imported log transported by port. As the result of analysis, In-cheon port accounted for 56.9% log import, which is the maximum log import port in ROK. Next Bu-san port 20.9%, Gun-san port 17.9%. However, these port have declined the quantity of imported log transported since 2000. Gun-san port and Dong-hae port increased narrow range. The reason of why In-cheon and Bu-san port declined log import and Gun-san and Dong-hae port increased is that a sudden rise in the price of log in 2003, and import of using a container ship increased. In the addition, log import from Far eastern Russia, Germany and America increased through a container ship, however, declined log import through a bulk ship. Most of imported log at In-cheon port are from New zealand and Russia, imported logs at Bu-san port are almost from US and New zealand.

  • The ongoing development of Distriparks, the increase in workers inside the warehouses, and the growth in traffic volume have shifted the attention of the many D.C. operators on how to utilize their warehouse spaces more profitably and economically. A total of 550 cars and trucks are illegally parked at the distribution centers everyday. To meet these challenges, port authorities are looking closely at how they can establish effective countermeasures to solve this problem and satisfy customers of the Distripark. In order to answer these questions, this article sought to identity and analyze the current status of the illegal parking issues and main causes of that phenomena. In addition to summarizing an actual outcomes of the illegal parking problems, the research also examines the legal and practical countermeasures of this issues. Finally this research tries to find future solutions for ports in the Distripark development process, with particular reference to the legal and managerial aspects.

The New Service Quality Assessment System for Gwangyang Container Port (광양항 컨테이너 부두의 서비스품질 평가체계)

  • The service quality survey for the customers of Gwangyang container port has been done since 2005. It has been difficult to compare annual levels or rival ports because the calculation of weights among service dimensions that is the most important procedure of the assessment systems did not be founded. In particular, the calculation results by the Analytical Hierarchy Process that specializes in estimating the weights were very unstable and not comparable because they were fluctuated annually more than 90% for the specific item. The objective of this study is to support the establishment for new assessment system of service quality with cost- and time-effective tools at Gwangyang port. The confirmatory factor analysis methodology applied to 2007-2009 survey data from the customers of Gwangyang port can estimate ex-post weights to measure annually the stable service quality. The proposed methodology allows us to build the assessment system of more scientific and accurate service quality while reducing the survey items. By this study, a port company can measure accurately the quality of service and improve its competitiveness through being compared to previous periods and leading companies.

  • The managing strategies of each enterprise has been fundamentally changed due to the emergence of digital economics by using the internet. Therefore it is indispensable for each enterprise to be changed their business strategies. With a view to meeting the change of new economic paradigm, they are efforting to build a infrastructure for information and communication, induce foreign capital, reconsider their conditions of location, draw the law concerned and reinforce education for experts etc. In consideration of these change, the Pusan port & the KwangYang port have to introduce e-Business for the purpose of increasing the level of their competition. We - our government, the companies - concerned with port management should recognize and use efficiently our core competence and potentiality of our port management. To achieve it, firstly port industries are to handle not only international logistic system but also communication, finance and sightseeing. Secondly, the developed off-line system have to be harmonizing with the on-line. Therefore, this paper are focused to suggest the theoretic background by analyzing the strategic points of e-port which are divided in 6C - Contents, Community, Connection, Commerce, Communication and Customization.

The Development Strategies of the Port of Busan in the Midst of Rapidly Growing Chinese Economy (중국 경제의 급부상에 따른 부산항의 발전전략)

  • The China entered World Trade Oganization(WTO) last year, thus opening its border to more - and freer - trade. With its foreign trade rapidly expanding and with economic growth continuing at a substantial -rate, China will be the largest container traffic generating country in the world. In the light of this potential trade bonanza, regional ports in North-East Asia strive to gain a competitive-edge. The Port of Busan, the world's third largest container port, wants to capture a significant share of the china's container cargoes. In this circumstance, development strategies of the Port of Busan are suggested as follows. First, to cope with increasing volumes, the New Busan Port on Gaduk island should be constructed without failure. Second, it is necessary to add modernized high-performance gantry cranes and to train crane operators' skill. Third, it needs to apply Dwell Time- Sliding Scale System for transshipment cargoes. Fourth, it needs to develop the EDI network in terminal areas or adjacent hub ports to exchange trustworthy and satisfactory informations Fifth, port authority -needs to enlarge designated Free Trade Zone to facilitate the free flow of cargoes. Sixth, the restoration of rail links between North and South Korea is abundantly clear. Thus it needs to enlarge railroad facilities in advance. Seventh, it needs to establish the Port Authority of Busan immediately. Finally, it needs to strengthen port sales and to open events like 'Marine Week 2001' regularly to attract potential canters or big shippers.

  • In this study, it is purpose that value-added-logistics strategy plan for cooperation and coexistence in northeast asia.. Because of the change of domestic industrial structure, Japan's super hub port plan, Yangshan Deepwater port open of china and domestic port logistics industries are faced with competition among northeast asia countries. Decreasing export volume of changed domestic industrial structure and two countries: japan, china, make a new port policy and build new ports will affect domestic port logistics industries because these industries depend on container throughput at Busan port. Now, we cannot get a lot of profit from container throughput more than before and in the future China has more ports most ships direct calling in china's port to handle china's cargo volume to get more profit at that time our plans to become a hub port in northeast need revision. Finally, we need a new strategy which is value-added-logistics strategy. But it considers cooperation and coexistence among northeast countries. So this paper suggests that value-added-logistics strategy plan for cooperation and coexistence to live in affluence together in the future.

  • In recent years, the hub and spoke strategy has been strengthened in accordance with the enlargement of ships. As the needs of the port users change, the ports are also becoming larger and modernized. Under these circumstances, changes in existing port operations are expected. One example is the movement to promote economic and operational effectiveness through the joint operation of small and medium-sized operators. This study analyzed the effect of the association of small and medium-sized operators on Busan New Port in terms of economy. Additionally, the issue of cost allocation within the association of operators was presented through the game theory. As a result, in the case of operating jointly rather than divided into five operating companies as of the present, it has been shown to have a cost reduction effect in terms of operating companies. Considering the use of the Proportional method, the Shapley Value, and the Nucleus method in allocating the costs among the operators participating in the coalition, the Shapley Value method was the most suitable method in this study.
