  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the self-image of adolescents with cancer. Method: This study was a descriptive study. The participants in the study were 75 adolescents recruited from four medical centers in Seoul and all were receiving cancer therapy Korean Offer Self-Image Questionnaire was used and data were analyzed using the SPSS program. Result & Conclusions: The self-image of adolescents with cancer exists within the average range, but all groups of adolescents with cancer had a more positive self-image than Korean reference groups. The reason why adolescents with cancer showed a relatively positive self-image despite their painful experiences, is because they developed new value systems and view point through their experiences and teaming to cope with their situation. This research revealed that relapse affects the self-image of adolescents and therefore it is important to note that adolescents with relapses need more intensive interventions to maintain their positive self-image. In order to help with their coping process, further research on the factors that affect self-image in adolescents with cancer is also needed.

  • Intravenous (IV) injection is widely used to supply Ringer solution directly into a vein in hospital. Generally, a passive injection method has been used, which causes the inconsistent flow rate of fluid and inappropriate control of injection time by a patient. It leads to an unnecessary nurse's overwork and decrement of IV injection's effect. To solve these problems, flow control infusion pumps have been developed. But because of relatively heavy weight and high price, its usage has been limited. In the present study, a new automatic IV injection system is developed. It is installed with a small pressing mechanism driven by a small electric motor to regulate the flow rate by pressing tube. Proportional integral derivative (PID) feedback control algorithm is applied to control the electric motor. The system is smaller in size and uses lower power than the existing commercial product. The newly developed system is also installed with networking capability, which enables monitoring the status of several automatic IV injection system at the same time.

  • Purpose: The purposes of this study were to develop a nursing assessment tool for senior center nurses, and to test its feasibility and content validity. Methods: The study utilized a psychometric test design. Preliminary items were developed based on geriatric health needs and Gordon's 11 domains of functioning health. Initially, the tool was evaluated for content validity and feasibility. Then, it was administered among 195 older adults in a senior center by a gerontological nurse practitioner. Data were analyzed to describe the nursing problems of the senior center older adults. Results: The final version of the nursing assessment tool consisted of 27 items. The internal consistency, measured with the Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, was .74. The result of the assessment showed that senior center older adults had high nursing needs in the area of management of chronic diseases (hypertension, diabetes, and lipids), dental care, community relations, safety, elder abuse, health behaviors (such as drinking), mental health (depression, suicide, and cognitive function), and health consultations. Conclusion: The new tool was feasible for use with senior center participants, and it was evaluated as having high content validity by senior center nurses.

  • This study aims to provide space organization of the Postpartum Care Center and basic data for architectural planning in the reasonable size. Nurturing method of infants at independent Postpartum Care Center combines rooming-in and non rooming-in and space organization is planned accordingly. Types of the existing floor plans are classified as a type centered on maternity protection room, a type of the separate space for multipurpose, a near type to the infants' room. New types of plane are presented as follows a core type concentrate upon nurse room, the infants' room and the same environmental and balanced corridors between the both. When an average capacity of 20 at Postpartum Care Center is planned, proper suitable floor space of Postpartum Care Center is above $753.9m^2$ and $37.69m^2$ per postpartum woman is required. It is indicated that an average floor space per postpartum woman of the reviewed facilities is smaller than one of the Postpartum Care Center in a plan and plane distributed by function too lack in nursing space. Expansion of space for the Postpartum Care Center is generally required, also the enlargement of nursing space is necessary to be harmonized with the management of a medical facilities and those mutual cooperation.

  • An evaluation in school education systems should identify what students achieve and what they do not. Since 2010, if the health education curriculum is provided as a selective course in middle and high school settings, the national health education standards are required because these affect on students' applications of a higher stage of education. It would be better that each school follows their autonomy to evaluate each student's achievement on the health education. In addition, the national health education standards should be set to assess the effectiveness of seven categories in health education. It is hard to achieve good results through 17 hours of the health education per a semester. Therefore, the health education would be better to provide more than 50 hours per a semester, and the 3th graders instead of 5th graders are suitable for taking the health education because they are more flexible to change their lifestyle toward healthier life. There are two categories in the health education, such as "Mental Health" and "Society and Health" which are expanded from originally seven categories of the health education. Moreover, professional training programs for school nurses should be provided because these two categories are relatively a new domain for them. Finally, all elementary middle and high schools have a school nurse to decrease inequal opportunities of the health education between urban and rural area. When these suggestions are all set in school systems, our students' health behaviors will be improved as well as the effectiveness of the health education.

  • A uniform is generated in the course of confirming a singular mode of dress that is adopted by a community for a specific purpose. In particular, women's uniform has a close relations to their position in the community they belong to. And women's uniform has closely been associated with finding ways into their communities over the centuries, and is part of women's development process. Women's history of using organized uniforms has not been longer than men's. Their realm of activities began to be enlarged due to the World War, and women's uniform has gradually settled down and moved toward diversity. The origin of many uniforms worn by today's women can be traced back to the end of the last century, and this fact indicates that women started to find their ways into many new fields at that time. There has been a lot of changes until current women's uniforms come out. It's intended in this study to contribute to designing more creative and productive women's uniform, by taking a careful look at typical early uniforms for service personnels, nannies, nurses and soldiers that are an indication of their work and working environment.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to understand the meaning and nature of the early experiences of retired nurses. Methods: This qualitative study adopted Colaizzi's phenomenological method. Study participants were 10 nurses who had retired within the previous two years. Data were collected through in-depth individual interviews with the participants from September to December 2017, which were conducted until recurring themes emerged. Results: Early experiences of retired nurses in 14 sub-themes and 5 themes from the total of 256 initial codes. The five themes were 'vaguely initiated retirement preparation,' 'decreased income and increased spending,' 'mixture of longing and unfamiliarity,' 'the comforts left regret,' and 'go to another start another beginning.' Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, we suggest pre-retirement education that considers economic, interpersonal, and psychological changes to help nurses adapt to their new lives after retirement. We propose the development of education programs based on an understanding of lifestyle changes experienced by retired nurses, and further study to measure the effectiveness of these programs.
