  • Neural networks are known as kinds of intelligent strategies since they have learning capability. There are various their applications from intelligent control fields; however, their applications have limits from the point that the stability of the intelligent control systems is not usually guaranteed. In this paper we propose a neuro-adaptive controller for robot manipulators using the radial basis function network(RBFN) that is a kind of a neural network. Adaptation laws for parameters of the RBFN are developed based on the Lyapunov stability theory to guarantee the stability of the overall control scheme. Filtered tracking errors between the actual outputs and desired outputs are discussed in the sense of the uniformly ultimately boundedness(UUB). Additionally, it is also shown that the parameters of the RBFN are bounded. Experimental results for a SCARA-type robot manipulator show that the proposed neuro-adaptive controller is adaptable to the environment changes and is more robust than the conventional PID controller and the neuro-controller based on the multilayer perceptron.

  • A new type of controller for DC-DC converters is presented. The proposed neuro-fuzzy controller combines fuzzy logic with neural networks to adjust parameters of the fuzzy controller to the most appropriate. Neither the exact mathematical models of the DC-DC converters nor the tuning process of the parameters of the fuzzy controller are needed in the proposed scheme. Simulation results are presented to show the above process and transient, steady state responses, and load regulation of the given system.

  • The shape and width of fuzzy membership function has an effect on performance of fuzzy controller. In this paper, neuro-fuzzy controller is proposed to improve the control performance of fuzzy controller. It has membership function, that is adapt to plant constant by using trained neural network. This neural network has been trained with back propagation algorithm. To show the effectiveness of proposed neuro-fuzzy controller with adaptive membership function, it is applied to plant (dead time + 1st order) with various plant constant.

  • This paper presents a fuzzy rule extraction method using EM(Expectation-Maximization) algorithm and a design method of adaptive neuro-fuzzy control. EM algorithm is used to estimate a maximum likelihood of a GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model) and cluster centers. The estimated clusters is used to automatically construct the fuzzy rules and membership functions for ANFIS(Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System). Finally, we applied the proposed method to the water temperature control system and obtained better results with respect to the number of rules and SAE(Sum of Absolute Error) than previous techniques such as conventional fuzzy controller.

  • A novel combinatorial type-2 adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (T2-ANFIS) and robust proportional integral derivative (PID) control framework for intelligent vibration mitigation of uncertain structural system is introduced. The fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs), are designed independently of the mathematical model of the system. The type-1 FLCs, have a limited ability to reduce the effect of uncertainty, due to their fuzzy sets with a crisp degree of membership. In real applications, the consequent part of the fuzzy rules is uncertain. The type-2 FLCs, are robust to the fuzzy rules and the process parameters due to the fuzzy degree of membership functions and footprint of uncertainty (FOU). The adaptivity of the proposed method is provided with the optimum tuning of the parameters using the neural network training algorithms. In our approach, the PID control force is obtained using the generalized type-2 neuro-fuzzy in such a way that the stability and robustness of the controller are guaranteed. The robust performance and stability of the presented framework are demonstrated in a numerical study for an eleven-story seismically-excited building structure combined with an active tuned mass damper (ATMD). The results indicate that the introduced type-2 neuro-fuzzy PID control scheme is effective to attenuate plant states in the presence of the structured and unstructured uncertainties, compared to the conventional, type-1 FLC, type-2 FLC, and type-1 neuro-fuzzy PID controllers.

  • A sodium chloride crystallizer shows oscillatory and nonlinear characteristics under its nucleating and growing process. Because these characteristics vary with operational condition, we can't control the product crystal size exactly with a PID controller or a sequence controller. Then, we make a model with threefold neural networks for the laboratory equipment that is a jet mixing crystallizer. We try to control the product crystal size with its neuro-model, and we reach the conclusion that our neuro-model is applicable to the practical crystallizer.

  • In adaptive neuro-control, neural networks are used to approximate the unknown plant nonlinearities. Until now, most of the papers in the field of controller design fur nonlinear system using neural networks considers the affine system with fixed number of neurons. This paper considers nonaffne nonlinear systems and dynamic variation of the number of neurons. Control laws and adaptive laws for weights are established so that the whole system is stable in the sense of Lyapunov.

  • In this paper, we proposed a fuzzy-neuro controller to control the speed of wound rotor induction motor with slip energy recovery. The speed is limited at some range of sub-synchronous speed of the rotating magnetic field. Control speed by adjusting resistance value in the rotor circuit that occurs the efficiency of power are reduced, because of the slip energy is lost when it passes through the rotor resistance. The control system is designed to maintain efficiency of motor. Recently, the emergence of artificial neural networks has made it conductive to integrate fuzzy controllers and neural models for the development of fuzzy control systems, Fuzzy-neuro controller has been designed by integrating two neural network models with a basic fuzzy logic controller. Using the back propagation algorithm, the first neural network is trained as a plant emulator and the second neural network is used as a compensator for the basic fuzzy controller to improve its performance on-line. The function of the neural network plant emulator is to provide the correct error signal at the output of the neural fuzzy compensator without the need for any mathematical modeling of the plant. The difficulty of fine-tuning the scale factors and formulating the correct control rules in a basic fuzzy controller may be reduced using the proposed scheme. The scheme is applied to the control speed of a wound rotor induction motor process. The control system is designed to maintain efficiency of motor and compensate power factor of system. That is: the proposed controller gives the controlled system by keeping the speed constant and the good transient response without overshoot can be obtained.

  • This paper presents a neuro fuzzy system(NFS) for implementing fuzzy inference system with a monotonic membership function. The modeling and control of a discrete nonlinear system using a NFS is described. The membership function parameters of a identifier and controller are adjusted by back-propagation algorithm. These identifier and controller is constructed to proposed NFS. A on-line identification and control are accomplished by this NFS. A controller is gived information of the system, that is variation of the system output according to that of the control input by a identifier. A controller makes control input in order to control discrete-time nonlinear system. A Simulation is presented to demonstrate the efficiency of a suggested method.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop the Plastic Cortex Stimulator(PCS) for stroke patients using ZigBee technology. The PCS consists of an implantable neuro-stimulator and a user controller, The neuro-stimulator has the stimulus circuit which is the H-bridge circuit to generate a bipolar pulse. The bipolar pulse is known to be effective for stroke recovery. The user controller sends several wave-shape parameters (amplitude, pulse width, cycle, etc.) to the neuro-stimulator for variable stimulation using ZigBee technology. The CC2420 and atmega128L was used to implement ZigBee protocol stack. The wireless control of PCS based on ZigBee can help the tele-rehabilitation of the stroke patients. The most effective pulse shape parameters are being investigated through animal experiments. The bio-compatibility and user-friendly interface are supposed to be handled in further study.
