  • This study proposes a artificial neural network method to predict the time to buy and sell the stocks listed on the Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI). Four types (NN1, NN2, NN3, NN4) of independent networks were developed to predict KOSPIs up/down direction after four weeks. These networks have a difference only in the length of learning period. NN5 - arithmetic average of four networks outputs - shows an higher accuracy than other network types and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR), and buying and selling simulation using systems outputs produces higher reture than buy-and-hold strategy.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient network communication scheme tailored to the network virtual reality(NVR) system. We first present the architecture and implementation of CVRAT (collaborative virtual reality authoring tool). The design goal of CVRAT is to provide consistent and scalable shared virtual environments. To achieve this goal, we classify the network messages according to their reliability and latency requirements. These conflicting requirements lead us to conceive a heterogeneous communication scheme which provides the unicast and three different multicast transport services; unreliable multicast, receiver-driven reliable multicast, fast reliable multicast. Each protocol has trade-offs in reliability, latency and bandwidth usage. The characteristics are analyzed by several experiments. Finally, applying this communication method to multi-participant battle-field tank simulation, we show the efficacy of proposed heterogeneous transport mechanism.

  • In this paper, we discuss an optimization approach for time-synchronizations in networked simulators. This method is a sub-technology that is required to combine heterogeneous simulators into a single simulation. In previous time-synchronization studies, they had built a network system among networked simulators. The network system collects network packets and adds time-stamps to the networked packets based on the time that occurs in events of simulation objects in the individual simulators. Then, it sorts them in chronological order. Finally, the network system applies time-synchronization to each simulator participating in interworking sequentially. However, the previous approaches have a limitation in that other participating simulators should wait for while processing an event in a simulator in a time stamp order. In this paper, we attempt to solve the problem by optimizing time-synchronizations in networked simulation environments. In order to prove the practicality of our approach, we have conducted an experiment. Finally, we discuss the contributions of this paper.

  • Nowadays, a rapid development in wind power technologies is occurring compared with other renewable energies. This advance in technology has facilitated a new generation of wind turbines with larger capacity and higher efficiency. As the height of the turbines and the distance between turbines increases, the monitoring and control of this new generation wind turbines presents new challenges. This paper presents the architectural design, simulation, and evaluation of hybrid communication networks for a large-scale wind turbine (WT). The communication network of WT is designed based on logical node (LN) concepts of the IEC 61400-25 standard. The proposed hybrid network architectures are modeled and evaluated by OPNET. We also investigate network performance using three different technologies: Ethernet-based, WiFi-based, and ZigBee-based. Our network model is validated by analyzing the simulation results. This work contributes to the design of a reliable communication network for monitoring and controlling a wind power farms (WPF).

  • This paper models knowledge diffusion on an inter-organizational network. Based on literatures related to knowledge diffusion, the model considers critical factors that affect diffusion behavior including nodal property, relational property, and environmental property. We examine the relationships among network structure, knowledge search, and diffusion performance. Through a massive simulation runs based on the agent-based model, we find that the average path length of a network decreases a firm's cumulative knowledge stock, whereas the clustering coefficient of a firm has no significant relationship with the firm's knowledge. We also find that there is an interaction effect of network structure and the range of knowledge search on knowledge diffusion. Specifically, in a network of a larger average path length (APL) the marginal effect of search conduct is significantly greater than in that of a smaller APL.

  • In this paper, a operation network system equipped with onboard wireless communication systems and ground-based mission control systems is proposed for swarm flight of small UAVs. This operating system can be divided into two networks, UAV communication network and ground control system. The UAV communication network is intend to exchange the informations of navigation, mission and flight status with minimum time delay. The ground control system consisted of mission control systems and UDP network. Proposed operation network system can make a swarm flight of various UAVs, execute complex missions decentralizing mission to several UAVs and cooperte several missions. Finally, PILS environments are developed based on the total operating system.

  • P2P(peer to Peer) network is a distributed network architecture composed of participants that make a portion of their resources directly available to other network participants, without the need for a central server. Currently, convergence network industry using wired and mobile are grows rapidly. So P2P protocols will be used between mobile and wired network. But current P2P protocols are focused on the wired networks only and there are no simulators for performance analysis of mobile P2P. In this paper, we design a P2P simulation system for performance analysis of P2P protocols in mobile, wired and convergence networks. It is constructed by a well-known mobile network simulator and wired based P2P protocol simulator. Finally we have implemented a smart TV test-bed using our P2P test-bed for convergence networks.

  • The recent notion of Network Centric Warfare (NCW) emphasizes the ability to distribute right information at the right time to maximize the combat effectiveness. Accordingly, in the modern combat system the importance of non-physical element, such as communication system is increasing. However, an NCW-support communication network system is expensive. Therefore, it is essential to develop a proper combat system evaluation method to establish an efficient NCW-support combat system. Traditionally, combat system effectiveness is measured in terms of physical elements such as men and fire power. Obviously, such method is hardly applicable to a modern combat system To overcome this difficulty, we propose an evaluation model based on CA (Cellular Automata) simulation. A set of preliminary combat simulations show that CA simulation may be promising in evaluating non-physical element of a modem combat system.

  • In this paper, we have developed a performance analysis tool for communication networks called COMNAS. COMNAS analyses the performance of wide area networks such as Korea Educational Network and Korea Research Environment Open Network which include local area networks such as Ethernet and Token Ring. COMNAS consists of model constructor, simulation implementor, output analyzer and user interface. Attributes of communication networks for modeling either have default values or are entered by user as object units, and implementation of simulation is automatically proceeded by user interface. Ouput results obtained by COMNAS are the status of node, link and entire network such as mean message transmission delay, throughput, utilization, and so on, and they can be selectively obtained upon the request of the user.
