  • Asphalt concrete (AC), is a mixture of bitumen and aggregates, which is very sensitive in the design of flexible pavement. In this study, the Marshall stability of the glass and carbon fiber bituminous concrete was predicted by using Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), and M5P Tree machine learning algorithms. To predict the Marshall stability, nine inputs parameters i.e., Bitumen, Glass and Carbon fibers mixed in 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, 0:100 percentage (designated as 100GF:0CF, 75GF:25CF, 50GF:50 CF, 25GF:75CF, 0GF:100CF), Bitumen grade (VG), Fiber length (FL), and Fiber diameter (FD) were utilized from the experimental and literary data. Seven statistical indices i.e., coefficient of correlation (CC), mean absolute error (MAE), root mean squared error (RMSE), relative absolute error (RAE), root relative squared error (RRSE), Scattering index (SI), and BIAS were applied to assess the effectiveness of the developed models. According to the performance evaluation results, Artificial neural network (ANN) was outperforming among other models with CC values as 0.9147 and 0.8648, MAE values as 1.3757 and 1.978, RMSE values as 1.843 and 2.6951, RAE values as 39.88 and 49.31, RRSE values as 40.62 and 50.50, SI values as 0.1379 and 0.2027 and BIAS value as -0.1 290 and -0.2357 in training and testing stage respectively. The Taylor diagram (testing stage) also confirmed that the ANN-based model outperforms the other models. Results of sensitivity analysis showed that the fiber length is the most influential in all nine input parameters whereas the fiber combination of 25GF:75CF was the most effective among all the fiber mixes in Marshall stability.

  • Recent trains have broadband train communication networks to improve train operation safety and to provide passengers with multimedia services. Compared to glass optical fiber, plastic optical fiber (POF) has a large diameter; it also provides the good durability and maintainability necessary to railway applications. This paper suggests an All-IP broadband train communication network that connects all devices in the train through a POF interface. Performance tests according to Korean railroad standards shows that this POF interface is usable in the range of vibration and temperature conditions encountered in trains. A dedicated Layer-2 switch with the POF interface is developed for the construction of the All-IP train communication network. A prototype 1Gbps train communication network was set up in a trial-run of train on a metro line using the developed Layer-2 switch and POF. On-track tests indicated the feasibility of the POF train communication network. POF has an additional advantage of economic feasibility, and it is expected to start a trend toward broadband train communication networks using POF.

  • In this study, we used GO (graphene oxide) in order to enhance the adhesion between Ag NWs (nanowires) and substrates. By using a mixture solution of GO and Ag NW, a vacuum filtration process was used to fabricate a 50nm diameter thin film. Next, by using a light annealing process, the mechanical and electrical stability of Ag NW network was improved without any other treatment. The physical properties of the Ag NW - GO hybrid transparent conductive thin film was characterized in terms of a bending test, resistance and transmittance test, and nanoscale imaging using field-emission scanning electron microscopy.

  • Virtual colonoscopy is one of the Powerful tool for non-invasive colon examination and many in-vitro and in-vivo studies have shown its accuracy in Polyp or adenoma detection. But most of virtual colonoscopy requires high quality workstation and software and its cost is high to setup whole system. We developed PC-based 3D model creation and navigation program which has diverse functions. It can be easily installed to PC and connected to network system. The performance. when used as a virtual colonoscopy. is evaluated by calculating sensitivity of detection for the simulated polyp which is artificially made inside the Pig's colon and checked its clinical feasibility, Its total sensitivity is 76%. Grouping according to Polyps diameter, the sensitivity for detection of polyps 10 ㎜ or larger was 100%(40 of 40); 5.0-9.9 ㎜, 90.0(90 of 100): and smaller then 5 ㎜. 36.7%(22 of 60).

  • The central strategy in tissue engineering involves a biomaterial scaffold as a delivery carrier of cells and a depot to deliver bioactive molecules. The ability of scaffolds to control cellular response to direct particular repair and regeneration processes is essential to obtain functional tissue engineering constructs. Therefore, many efforts have been made to understand local interactions of cells with their extracellular matrix (ECM) microenvironment and exploit these interactions for designing an ideal scaffold mimicking the chemical, physiological, and structural features of native ECM. ECM is composed of a number of biomacromolecules including proteins, glycosaminoglycans, and proteoglycans, which are assembled together to form complex 3-dimensional network. Electrospinning is a process to generate highly porous 3-dimensional fibrous structure with nano to micro scaled-diameter, which can closely mimic the structure of ECM. In this presentation, our approaches to develop biomimetic electrospun fibers for modulation of cell function will be discussed.

  • This paper presents the behavior of the soil based on the Gap Parameter during the Shield TBM tunnel excavation in sandy soil. This study reproduced the tunnel before and after the excavation according to the diameter of the tunnel, water ratio and depth to execute a Scaled Model Test and analyzed the behavior change of the upper soil. As a result, tunneling after for soil stress decreased was similar in all the Case. In addition, the soil stress decreased was in water ratio increases.

  • Use of the carbon nanotube is superior to general powder state materials of dispersion property. Because its ratio of diameter and length(aspect ratio) is very large, it has been known as a type of ideal nano-reinforcement composite. It used solution mixing method for specimen fabrication. To research dispersion property, we used FE-SEM(Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope) and AFM(Atomic Force Microscope). As a result, this tendency confirms new conductivity network in which the carbon nanotube between carbon black constitute molecules shows a bond by similar constructive property.

  • For the purpose of preparation of monodispersed spherical zinc oxide fine particles, and experimental research on the preparation of zinc oxide particles from zinc salts solutions by high temperature precipitation reaction was performed. Zinc oxide particles were precipitated from all the precipitation solutions tested if the precipitation temperature was higher than 60$^{\circ}$C. As the precipitation temperature increased until 80$^{\circ}$C, the average particle diameter of zinc oxide particles decreased and the narrower particle size distribution were obtained. Spherical zinc oxide fine particles with relativeyl narrow particle size distribution were precipitated from the ZnSo4 solutions with NaOH as precipitant. Final pH of precipitation solution had an effect on the amount of zinc oxide precipitated, but had no effect on the their particle size or size distribution.

  • The network structure of $SnO_2$ nanowires was fabricated on the electrodes by a simple thermal evaporation process from Sn metal powders and oxygen gas. The diameter of the nanowires was $20\;{\sim}\;60\;nm$ depending on the processing conditions. The operating temperature of the sensor could be decreased down below $50^{\circ}C$ by controlling the properties of the nanowires and the structures of the electrodes. The sensitivities were $10\;{\sim}\;15$ when the $NO_2$ concentrations were $10\;{\sim}\;50\;ppm$ at the operating temperature of $50^{\circ}C$.

  • We have investigated the structures of copper nanowires encapsulated in carbon nanotubes using a structural optimization process applied to the steepest descent method. The results showed that the stable morphology of the cylindrical ultrathin copper nanowires in carbon nanotubes is multishell packs consisted of coaxial cylindrical shells. As the diameter of copper nanotubes increased, the encapsulated copper nanowires have the face centered cubic structure as the bulk. Both the semiclassical orbits in a circle and the circular rolling of a triangular network can explain the structures of ultrathin multishell copper nanowires encapsulated in carbon nanotubes.
