For the asset management of a water pipe network, it would be necessary to understand the extent of the maintenance cost required for the water pipe network for the future. This study would develop a method to draw the optimum cost required for the maintenance of the water pipe network in waterworks facilities to maintain the aim revenue water ratio and to achieve the target revenue water ratio, considering the water service providers' waterworks condition and revenue water ratio comprehensively. This study conducted a survey with 96 water service providers as of the early 2015 and developed models to estimate the optimum maintenance cost of the water pipe network, considering the characteristics of the water service providers. Since the correlation coefficient of all the developed models was higher than 0.95, it turned out that it had significant reliability, which was statistically significant. As a result of applying the developed models to the actual water service providers, it was drawn that increasing revenue water ratio to more than a certain level can reduce the maintenance cost of the water pipe network by a great deal. In other words, it is judged that it would be the most efficient to secure the reliability of waterworks management by increasing the short-term revenue water ratio to more than a certain level and gradually increase the revenue water ratio from the long-term perspective. It is expected that the proposed methodology proposed in this study and the results of the study will be used as a basic research for planning the maintenance of water pipe network or establishing a plan for waterworks facilities asset management.
To date, the IEA DSM Programme has not undertaken any work on the potential for DSM to cost-effectively relieve electricity network constraints Such constraints are becoming a significant problem in countries where electricity demand is increasing and network infrastructure ('poles and wires') is ageing. As loads grow and infrastructure reaches the end of its economic life, the potential cost of augmenting electricity networks is increasing exponentially. In many situations, network-driven DSM can delay the need for network augmentation. In some limited situations, mainly at the distribution level, network-driven DSM may be able to cost-effectively eliminate the requirement to build a 'poles and wires' solution. In this paper, the concept of network-driven DSM program is surveyed.
This paper compares four network con-figurations for using as the logical topology in multi- hop wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks. The regular network configurations studied in this paper axe ShuffleNet, de Bruijn graph, hypercube, and Man-hattan street network. Instead of using the weight mean hop distance of node placement problem for comparing optimum logical topology, we introduce a new objective function that includes h and the network cost. It can be seen that the network cost strongly depends on the logical topology selected for the implementation of the network. The objective of this paper is to find an optimum logical topology for WDM networks that gives low as well as low network cost.
Experts have designed popular and successful model architectures, which, however, were not the optimal option for different scenarios. Despite the remarkable performances achieved by deep neural networks, manually designed networks for classification tasks are the backbone of object detection. One major challenge is the ImageNet pre-training of the search space representation; moreover, the searched network incurs huge computational cost. Therefore, to overcome the obstacle of the pre-training process, we introduce a network adaptation technique using a pre-trained backbone model tested on ImageNet. The adaptation method can efficiently adapt the manually designed network on ImageNet to the new object-detection task. Neural architecture search (NAS) is adopted to adapt the architecture of the network. The adaptation is conducted on the MobileNetV2 network. The proposed NAS is tested using SSDLite detector. The results demonstrate increased performance compared to existing network architecture in terms of search cost, total number of adder arithmetics (Madds), and mean Average Precision(mAP). The total computational cost of the proposed NAS is much less than that of the State Of The Art (SOTA) NAS method.
In this study, Ant Colony Algorithm(ACO) was used for optimal model. ACO which are metaheuristic algorithm for combinatorial optimization problem are inspired by the fact that ants are able to find the shortest route between their nest and food source. For applying the model to water distribution systems, pipes, tanks(reservoirs), pump construction and pump operation cost were considered as object function and pressure at each node and reservoir level were considered as constraints. Modified model from Ostfeld and Tubaltzev(2008) was verified by applying 2-Looped, Hanoi and Ostfeld's networks. And sensitivity analysis about ant number, number of ants in a best group and pheromone decrease rate was accomplished. After the verification, it was applied to real water network from S water treatment plant. As a result of the analysis, in the Two-looped network, the best design cost was found to $419,000 and in the Hanoi network, the best design cost was calculated to $6,164,384, and in the Ostfeld's network, the best design cost was found to $3,525,096. These are almost equal or better result compared with previous researches. Last, the cost of optimal design for real network, was found for 66 billion dollar that is 8.8 % lower than before. In addition, optimal diameter for aged pipes was found in this study and the 5 of 8 aged pipes were changed the diameter. Through this result, pipe construction cost reduction was found to 11 percent lower than before. And to conclusion, The least cost design model on water distribution system was developed and verified successfully in this study and it will be very useful not only optimal pipe change plan but optimization plan for whole water distribution system.
Network optimization and design procedures often separate quality of service (QOS) performance measures from reliability issues. This paper considers channel allocation and flow assignment (routing) in a network subject to link failures. Fault-tolerant channel allocation and flow assingments are determined which minimize network cost while maintaining QOS performance requirements. this approach is shown to yield significant network cost reductions compared to previous heuristic methods used in the design of packet switched network with unreliable links.

The placement of the complete baseband processing in a centralized pool results in high data rate requirement and inflexibility of the fronthaul network, which challenges the energy and cost effectiveness of the cloud radio access network (C-RAN). Recently, redesign of the C-RAN through functional split in the baseband processing chain has been proposed to overcome these challenges. This paper evaluates, by mathematical and simulation methods, different splits with respect to network level energy and cost efficiency having in the mind the expected quality of service. The proposed mathematical model quantifies the multiplexing gains and the trade-offs between centralization and decentralization concerning the cost of the pool, fronthaul network capacity and resource utilization. The event-based simulation captures the influence of the traffic load dynamics and traffic type variation on designing an efficient fronthaul network. Based on the obtained results, we derive a principle for fronthaul dimensioning based on the traffic profile. This principle allows for efficient radio access network with respect to multiplexing gains while achieving the expected users' quality of service.
In a highly urbanized area, land availability is limited for the installation of space consuming stormwater systems for best management practices (BMPs), leading to the consideration of underground stormwater treatment devices connected to the stormwater pipe system. The configuration of a stormwater pipe network determines the hydrological and pollutant transport characteristics of the stormwater discharged through the pipe network, and thus should be an important design consideration for effective management of stormwater quantity and quality. This article presents a multi-objective optimization approach for designing a stormwater pipe network with on-line stormwater treatment devices to achieve an optimal trade-off between the total installation cost and the annual removal efficiency of total suspended solids (TSS). The Non-dominated Sorted Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II) was adapted to solve the multi-objective optimization problem. The study site used to demonstrate the developed approach was a commercial area that has an existing pipe network with eight outfalls into an adjacent stream in Yongin City, South Korea. The stormwater management model (SWMM) was calibrated based on the data obtained from a subcatchment within the study area and was further used to simulate the flow rates and TSS discharge rates through a given pipe network for the entire study area. In the simulation, an underground stormwater treatment device was assumed to be installed at each outfall and sized proportional to the average flow rate at the outfall. The total installation cost for the pipes and underground devices was estimated based on empirical formulas using the flow rates and TSS discharge rates simulated by the SWMM. In the demonstration example, the installation cost could be reduced by up to 9% while the annual TSS removal efficiency could be increased by 4% compared to the original pipe network configuration. The annual TSS removal efficiency was relatively insensitive to the total installation cost in the Pareto-optimal solutions of the pipe network design. The results suggested that the installation cost of the pipes and stormwater treatment devices can be substantially reduced without significantly compromising the pollutant removal efficiency when the pipe network is optimally designed.
Cellular network is comprised of several base stations which serve cellular shaped service area and each base station (BS) is connected to the mobile switching center (MSC). In this paper, the configuration modeling and algorithm of a cellular mobile network with the aim of minimizing the overall cost of operation (handover) and network installation cost (cabling cost and installing cost of mobile switching center) are considered. Handover and cabling cost is one of the key considerations in designing cellular telecommunication networks. For real-world applications, this configuration study covers in an integrated framework for two major decisions: locating MSC and assigning BS to MSC. The problem is expressed in an integer programming model and a heuristic algorithm based on Lagrangian relaxation is proposed to resolve the problem. Searching for the optimum solution through exact algorithm to this problem appears to be unrealistic considering the large scale nature and NP-Completeness of the problem. The suggested algorithm computes both the bound for the objective value of the problem and the feasible solution for the problem. A Lagrangian heuristics is developed to find the feasible solution. Numerical tests are performed for the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed heuristic algorithm. Computational experiments show that the performance of the proposed heuristics is satisfactory in the quality of the generated solution.
