  • Guaranteeing survivability is the most important issue in designing and operating optical transmission network. For dual system of optical transmission network, there should be two routes of the optical to prepare an error in one cable route. If a route is selected based on the standard of unused optical core when choosing an optical cable, dual optical cable routes could be installed in duplicated line. This paper simulates the installation of duplicated line when designing an optical transmission network, detects the status of duplicated line that could happen during transfer construction and switching and accomplishes a system that can confirm the location based on a map.

  • The implementation of passive optical network in the access network will result in design of the network that have characteristics of broadband, long distance transmission, transparency. Particularly, optical technologies of WDM and WGR have made a new access network of WDM-PON. This paper proposes the algorithm that determines structural elements of a survivable optical access network, and simulates the cost of various scheme of proposed network architectures. Our results show that multistage star is the most cost effective scheme than the other architectures and show that network architecture designed by proposed algorithm provides survivability with single link and 1st node failure.

  • This paper proposes a hierarchical routing algorithm for enhancing survivability of sensor nodes on WSAN. Proposed algorithm has two important parts. The first is a clustering algorithm that uses distance between sensor and actor, and remaining energy of sensor nodes for selecting cluster head. It will induce uniform energy consumption, and this has a beneficial effect on network lifetime. The second is an enhanced routing algorithm that uses the shortest path tree. The energy efficient routing is very important in WSAN which has energy limitation. As a result, proposed algorithm extends network and nodes lifetime through consuming energy efficiently. Simulation results show that the proposed clustering algorithm outperforms conventional routing algorithms such as VDSPT in terms of node and network life time, delay, fairness, and data transmission ratio to BS.

  • The existing survivability measure is defined as the only ratio of survival traffic volume on the given traffic demand. In this paper we suggest a new network survivability evaluation model. Sinceit depends on the importance of traffic, we can evaluatethe affect of telecommunication disaster. With the suggested evaluation model we formulate optimization models for restoration paths and traffic assinment on them. The optimization models are represented as mixed integer programming problems, which are difficult to find exact solutions. We develop heuristic algorithms according to the optimization models and apply them to an example network with 10 nodes and 17 links.

  • As optical network technology advances and high bandwidth Internet is demanded for the exponential growth of internet traffic volumes, the Dense-Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) networks have been widely accepted as a promising approach to the Next Generation Optical Internet (NGOI) backbone networks for nation wide or global coverage. Important issues in the NGOI based on DWDM networks are the Routing and Wavelength Assignment(RWA) problem and survivability. Especially, fault/attack detection, localization and recovery schemes in All Optical Transport Network(AOTN) is one of the most important issues because a short service disruption in DWDM networks carrying extremely high data rates causes loss of vast traffic volumes. In this paper, we suggest a fault/attack management model for NGOI through analyzing fault/attack vulnerability of various optical backbone network devices and propose fault/attack recovery procedure considering Extended-LMP(Link Management Protocol) and RSVP-TE+(Resource Reservation Protocol-Traffic Engineering) as control protocols in IP/GMPLS over DWDM.

  • Existing security solutions such as Firewell and IDS (Intrusion Detection System) have a trouble in getting accurate detection rate about new attack and can not block interior attack. That is, existing securuty solutions have various shortcomings. Shortcomings of these security solutions can be supplemented with mechanism which guarantees an availability of systems. The mechanism which guarantees the survivability of node is various, we approachintrusion telerance using real time response mechanism. The monitoring code monitors related resources of system for survivability of vulnerable systm continuously. When realted resources exceed threshold, monitoring and response code is deployed to run. These mechanism guarantees the availability of system. We propose control mathod about resource monitoring. The monitoring code operates with this method. The response code may be resident in active node for availability or execute a job when a request is occurred. We suggest the node survivability mechanism that integrates the intrusion tolerance mechanism that complements the problems of existing security solutions. The mechanism takes asvantage of the automated service distribution supported by Active Network infrastructure instead of passive solutions. The mechanism takes advantage of the automated service distribution supported by Active Network infrastructure instead of passive system reconfiguration and patch.

  • The popularization of high-speed networks and the innovation of high-performance hardware/servers have enlarged the role of large-scale, highly distributed IT infrastructure. Though many criteria on the assessment of IT infrastructure can be considered, the survivability assessment is treated as the most important one due to the essential role as an infrastructure. While assessing the survivability of some given IT infrastructures, we can not only choose the best one among them but also improve their survivability by modifying their structure and security policies. In this paper, we propose a DMKB-based assessment system on the survivability of IT infrastructures, where DMKB is a kind of database which provides the known vulnerabilities and defense mechanism for many system components.

  • We propose 3-layered hierarchical fiber-optic backbone transmission network composed of B-DCS, Backbone ring, Edge ring for efficient transmission of high capacity traffic and consider design method to ensure network survivability of each layer at affordable cost. Mathematical ring-construction cost minimization using MIP(Mixed Integer Programming) models results in NP-complete problem. So, it is hard to solve it within reasonable computing time. on a large-scale network. Therefore we develop heuristic algorithms solving WSCAP(Working and Spared Channel Assignment Problem) for B-DCS, MRLB(Multi-Ring Load Balancing) problem for Backbone ring, and ORLB(Overlayed Ring Load Balancing) problem for Edge ring and show their usefulness through case study.
