In a wireless smart utility network communication system, an asynchronous low power MAC is standardized and used according to IEEE 802.15.4e. An asynchronous MAC called RIT (Receiver Initiated Transmission) has a characteristic in which delay time and power consumption are greatly affected by a check-in interval (RIT period). By waking up from sleep every check-in interval and checking whether there is data to be received, power consumption in the receiving end can be drastically reduced, but power consumption in the transmitting end occurs due to an excessive wakeup sequence. If an excessive wake-up sequence is reduced by shortening the check interval, power consumption of the receiving end increases due to too frequent wake-up. In the RIT asynchronous MAC technique, power consumption performance according to traffic load and operation of check-in interval is analyzed and applied to Wi-SUN construction.

Whitebox encryption technique is a method of preventing exposure of encryption keys by mixing encryption key information with a software-based encryption algorithm. Whitebox encryption technique is attracting attention as a technology that replaces conventional hardware-based security encryption techniques by making it difficult to infer confidential data and keys by accessing memory with unauthorized reverse engineering analysis. However, in the encryption and decryption process, a large lookup table is used to hide computational results and encryption keys, resulting in a problem of slow encryption and increased memory size. In particular, it is difficult to apply whitebox cryptography to low-cost, low-power, and light-weight Internet of Things products due to limited memory space and battery capacity. In addition, in a network environment that requires real-time service support, the response delay time increases due to the encryption/decryption speed of the whitebox encryption, resulting in deterioration of communication efficiency. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze whether the AES-based whitebox(WBC-AES) proposed by S.Chow can satisfy the speed and memory requirements based on the experimental results.

The 6LoWPAN(IPv6 Low-power Wireless Personal Area Network) performs IPv6 header compression, TCP/UDP/IGMP header compression, packet fragmentation and re-assemble to transmit IPv6 packet over IEEE 802,15.4 MAC/PHY. However, from the point of view of security. It has the existing security threats issued by IP packet fragmenting and reassembling, and new security threats issued by 6LoWPAN packet fragmenting and reassembling would be introduced additionally. If fragmented packets are retransmitted by replay attacks frequently, sensor nodes will be confronted with the communication disruption. This paper analysis security threats introduced by 6LoWPAN fragmenting and reassembling, and proposes a re-transmission mechanism that could minimize re-transmission to be issued by replay attacks. Re-transmission procedure and fragmented packet structure based on the 6LoWPAN standard(RFC4944) are designed. We estimate also re-transmission delay of the proposed mechanism. The mechanism utilizes timestamp, nonce, and checksum to protect replay attacks. It could minimize reassemble buffer overflow, waste of computing resource, node rebooting etc., by removing packet fragmentation and reassemble unnecessary.
Recently, due to the increase in the use of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, the amount of data transmitted and processed to cloud computing servers has increased rapidly. As a result, network problems (delay, server overload and security threats) are emerging. In particular, edge computing with lower computational capabilities than cloud computing requires a lightweight authentication algorithm that can easily authenticate numerous IoT devices. In this paper, we proposed a key-agreement protocol of a lightweight algorithm that guarantees anonymity and forward and backward secrecy between IoT and edge devices. and the proposed algorithm is stable in MITM and replay attacks for edge device and IoT. As a result of comparing and analyzing the proposed key-agreement protocol with previous studies, it was shown that a lightweight protocol that can be efficiently used in IoT and edge devices.

Recently, MTC (Machine Type Communication) is known as an important part to support IoT (Internet of Things) applications. MTC provides network connectivities between MTC devices without human intervention. In MTC, a large number of devices try to access over communication resource with a short period of time. Due to the limited communication resource, resource contention becomes severe and it brings about access failures of devices. To solve the problem, it needs to regulate device accesses. In this paper, we present an efficient access management scheme. We measure the number of devices which try to access in a certain time period and predict the change of the number of devices in the next time period. Using the predicted change, we control the number of devices which try to access. To verify our scheme, we conduct experiments in terms of success probability, failure probability, collision probability and access delay.

This paper develops a model for dynamic station assignment to optimize the Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) operation. In the process of optimization, we use the bus travel time as a variable for DRT management. In addition, walking time, waiting time, and delay due to detour to take other passengers (detour time) are added as optimization variables and entered for each DRT passenger. Based on a network around Anaheim, California, reserved origins and destinations of passengers are assigned to each demand responsive bus, using K-means clustering. We create a model for selecting the dynamic station and bus route and use Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-III to analyze seven scenarios composed combination of the variables. The result of the study concluded that if the DRT operation is optimized for the DRT management, then the bus travel time and waiting time should be considered in the optimization. Moreover, it was concluded that the bus travel time, walking time, and detour time are required for the passenger.
Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) has shown great potential in the nanoscale regime as a replacement for CMOS technology. This work presents a specific approach to static random-access memory (SRAM) cell based on 2:1 multiplexer, 4-bit SRAM array, and 32-bit SRAM array in QCA. By utilizing the proposed SRAM array, a single-layer 16×32-bit SRAM with the read/write capability is presented using an optimized signal distribution network (SDN) crossover technique. In the present study, an extremely-optimized 2:1 multiplexer is proposed, which is used to implement an extremely-optimized SRAM cell. The results of simulation show the superiority of the proposed 2:1 multiplexer and SRAM cell. This study also provides a more efficient and accurate method for calculating QCA costs. The proposed extremely-optimized SRAM cell and SRAM arrays are advantageous in terms of complexity, delay, area, and QCA cost parameters in comparison with previous designs in QCA, CMOS, and FinFET technologies. Moreover, compared to previous designs in QCA and FinFET technologies, the proposed structure saves total energy consisting of overall energy consumption, switching energy dissipation, and leakage energy dissipation. The energy and structural analyses of the proposed scheme are performed in QCAPro and QCADesigner 2.0.3 tools. According to the simulation results and comparison with previous high-quality studies based on QCA and FinFET design approaches, the proposed SRAM reduces the overall energy consumption by 25%, occupies 33% smaller area, and requires 15% fewer cells. Moreover, the QCA cost is reduced by 35% compared to outstanding designs in the literature.

Recently, various studies using deep reinforcement learning (deep RL) technology have been conducted to solve complex problems using big data collected at industrial internet of things. Deep RL uses reinforcement learning"s trial-and-error algorithms and cumulative compensation functions to generate and learn its own data and quickly explore neural network structures and parameter decisions. However, studies so far have shown that the larger the size of the learning data is, the higher are the memory usage and search time, and the lower is the accuracy. In this study, model-agnostic learning for efficient federated deep RL was utilized to solve privacy invasion by increasing robustness as 55.9% and achieve 97.8% accuracy, an improvement of 5.5% compared with the comparative optimization-based meta learning models, and to reduce the delay time by 28.9% on average.

This paper presents a video quality assessment method based on quality degradation factors of real-time multimedia streaming services. The video quality degradation is caused by video source compression and network states. In this paper, we propose a blocky metric on an image domain to measure quality degradation by video compression. In this paper, the proposed boundary strength index for the blocky metric is defined by ratio of the variation of two pixel values adjacent to $8{\times}8$ block boundary and the average variation at several pixels adjacent to the two boundary pixels. On the other hand, unnatural image movement caused by network performance deterioration such as jitter and delay factors can be observed. In this paper, a temporal-Jerkiness measurement method is proposed by computing statistics of luminance differences between consecutive frames and play-time intervals between frames. The proposed final Perceptual Video Quality Metric (PVQM) is proposed by consolidating both blocking strength and temporal-jerkiness. To evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm, the accuracy of the proposed algorithm is compared with Difference of Mean Opinion Score (DMOS) based on human visual system.

In this paper, we present an improved multicasting path assignment algorithm based on the minimum cost spanning tree. In the method presented in this paper, a multicasting path is assigned preferentially when a node to be received is found among the next degree nodes of the searching node in the multicasting path assignment of the constrained steiner tree (CST). If nodes of the legacy group exist between nodes of the new group, a new path among the nodes of new group is assigned as long as the nodes may be excluded from the new multicasting path assignment taking into consideration characteristics of nodes in the legacy group. In assigning the multicasting path additionally, where the source and destination nodes which can be set for the new multicasting path exist in the domain of identical network (local area network) and conditions for degree constraint are satisfied, a method of producing and assigning a new multicasting path is used. The results of comparison of CST with MCSTOP, MCSTOp algorithm enhanced performance capabilities about the communication cost, the propagation delay, and the computation time for the multicasting assignment paths more than CST algorithm. Further to this, research activities need study for the application of the international standard protocol(multicasting path assignment technology in the multipoint communication service (MCS) of the ITU-T T.120).
