  • This paper presents the optimal scheduling of hourly consumption in a residential community (community, neighborhood, etc.) based on real-time electricity price. The residential community encompasses individual residential loads, communal (shared) loads, and local generation. Community-aggregated loads, which include residential and communal loads, are modeled as fixed, adjustable, shiftable, and storage loads. The objective of the optimal load scheduling problem is to minimize the community-aggregated electricity payment considering the convenience of individual residents and hourly community load characteristics. Limitations are included on the hourly utility load (defined as community-aggregated load minus the local generation) that is imported from the utility grid. Lagrangian relaxation (LR) is applied to decouple the utility constraint and provide tractable subproblems. The decomposed subproblems are formulated as mixed-integer programming (MIP) problems. The proposed model would be used by community master controllers to optimize the utility load schedule and minimize the community-aggregated electricity payment. Illustrative optimal load scheduling examples of a single resident as well as an aggregated community including 200 residents are presented to show the efficiency of the proposed method based on real-time electricity price.

  • A MIMO model reference control scheme incorporating the variable structure theory for a vehicle four wheel steering system(4WS) is proposed and evaluated for a class of continuous-time nonlinear dynamics with known or unknown uncertainties. The scheme employs an neural network to identify the plant systems, where the neural network estimates the nonlinear dynamics of the plant. By the Lyapunov direct method, the algorithm is proven to be globally stable, with tracking errors converging to the neighborhood of zero. The merits of this scheme is that the global system stability is guaranteed and it is not necessary to know the exact structure of the system. With the resulting identification model which contains the neural networks, it does not need higher degrees of freedom vehicle model than 3 degree of freedom model. Th proposed scheme is applied to the active four wheel system and shows the validity is used to investigate vehicle handing performances. In simulation of the J-turn maneuver, the reduction of yaw rate overshoot of a typical mid-size car improved by 30% compared to a two wheel steering system(2WS) case, resulting that the proposed scheme gives faster yaw rate response and smaller side angle than the 2WS case.

  • This paper focuses on the capacitated vehicle routing problem that determines the routes of vehicles in such a way that each customer must be visited exactly once by one vehicle starting and terminating at the depot while the vehicle capacity and the travel time constraints must be satisfied. The objective is to minimize the total traveling cost. Due to the complexity of the problem, we suggest a tabu search algorithm that combines the features of the existing search heuristics. In particular, our algorithm incorporates the neighborhood reduction method using the proximity information of the Voronoi diagram corresponding to each problem instance. To show the performance of the Voronoi tabu search algorithm suggested in this paper, computational experiments are done on the benchmark problems and the test results are reported.

  • Unlike previous studies that reported the infection rates of Dirofilaria immitis in companion dogs, D. immitis genes were tested directly on mosquitoes to see how many mosquitoes actually carry larvae. Mosquito samples were collected from six parks in Incheon from March to August 2018. A total of 18,589 mosquitoes was collected, classified by type and then made 575 sample pools based on 50 mosquitoes. The PCR method was used to detect Dirofilaria immitis genes of sample pools. Dirofilaria immitis genes were detected in 7 of the 575 pools, and these positive mosquito samples were collected in 4 out of the 6 parks. The types of detected mosquitoes were Aedes dorsalis and Ochlerotatus koreanus which have been identified to act as a vector for heart worm propagation in Incheon. Based on these results, it was concluded that D. immitis genes were found in mosquitoes in the neighborhood park.

  • The study of how buildings affect wind flow is an important part of the research being conducted on urban climate and urban air quality. NJU-UCFM, a standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence closure model, is presented and is used to simulate how the following affect wind flow characteristics: (1) an isolated building, (2) urban canyons, (3) an irregular shaped building cluster, and (4) a real urban neighborhood. The numerical results are compared with previous researchers' results and with wind tunnel experiment results. It is demonstrated that the geometries and the distribution of urban buildings affect airflow greatly, and some examples of this include a changing of the vortices behind buildings and a "channeling effect". Although the mean air flows are well simulated by the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ models, it is important to pay attention to certain discrepancies when results from the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ models are used in design or policy decisions: The standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model may overestimate the turbulence energy near the frontal side of buildings, may underestimate the range of high turbulence energy in urban areas, and may omit some important information (such as the reverse air flows above the building roofs). In ideal inflow conditions, the effects of the heights of buildings may be underestimated, when compared with field observations.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop the health promotion program for rural elderly through PRECEDE process. Method: The health promotion program was developed based on the preliminary diagnosis. The data collection was performed from March 10th to April 9th, 2003. The subjects were selected at Mari Myun, Geochang Gun, in Korea. The preliminary diagnosis was examined with the 115 elders. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics and Cronbach's n test with SPSS/Win 10.0 program. Results: The health promotion program was developed based on diagnostic result using PRECEDE model. The developed program was corrected and revised with the advices from 6 experts. The final program included health responsibility(cancer prevention and early detection, hygienic, false teeth management no smoking and moderation in drink, and chronic disease prevention and management), physical activity(6 kinds of exercise), nutrition(low sodium diet calcium intake, and right eating habit), spiritual growth(spiritual demand and death preparation teaching), interpersonal relations(relationship with couple, children, grandchildren, neighborhood), and stress management(sports dance, foot massage, positive thought, and song class). Conclusion: I propose that it is necessary to identity the effect of health promotion program for rural elderly. And strategy development that can spread the health promotion program elderly is needed.

  • This paper propose and experiment advanced PersonNet, a human identification model, with advanced performance. We apply the inception layer to extract feature points, and increase the existing 32 feature points to 154. Also, we modify the CND method used by PersonNet to mitigate asymmetry, and apply weights to the feature map of pedestrian images in three parts, thereby making the features more distinct. Three databases were used for performance evaluation : CUHK01, CUHK03 and Market-1501. The experiment results showed 27-31% improvement in performance.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust stereo matching algorithm using nonlinear extended Kalman filter. The proposed algorithm estimates disparity using nonlinear extended Kalman filter and compares left image to right image for obtained disparity. As this process is run iteratively, we get disparity only with a few search. And, we can get robust stereo matching results by comparing left image to right image using bilinear interpolation to consider influence of neighborhood pixel. We compared SSD algorithm which is widely used, in stereo matching method, to result of the proposed algorithm. As the result, the proposed algorithm has an outstanding matching performance.

  • An air-fuel ratio control method is studied to keep the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas in the neighborhood of the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio to maximize the conversion efficiency of the three-way catalytic converter. Estimators, which estimate the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas, are proposed using neural networks to overcome the limit of the presently used bang-bang type exhaust gas oxygen sensor. Using these estimators, PI controller for air-fuel ratio control is designed and is experimented for an automobile engine. The proposed controller reduces the variation of air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas from the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio by 50%-75% when compared to the existing controller.
