  • In an edge-weighted(positive, negative, or zero weights are possible) tree, we want to solve the problem of finding a longest path such that the sum of the weights of the edges in the path is non-negative. We present an algorithm to find a longest non-negative path of a degree 3 tree in Ο(n log n) time, where n is the number of nodes in the tree.

  • In an edge-weighted(positive, negative, or zero weights are possible) tree, we want to solve the problem of finding a longest path such that the sum of the weights of the edges in tile path is non-negative. To find a longest non-negative path of a tree we present a sequential algorithm with O(n logn) time and a CREW PRAM parallel algorithm with $O(log^2n)$ time and O(n) processors. where n is the number of nodes in the tree.

  • Zagier lift gives a relation between weakly holomorphic modular functions and weakly holomorphic modular forms of weight 3/2. Duke and Jenkins extended Zagier-lifts for weakly holomorphic modular forms of negative-integral weights and recently Bringmann, Guerzhoy and Kane extended them further to certain harmonic weak Maass forms of negative-integral weights. New Zagier-lifts for harmonic weak Maass forms and their relation with Bringmann-Guerzhoy-Kane's lifts were discussed earlier. In this paper, we give explicit relations between the two different lifts via direct computation.

  • We show that when a max-cut problem is allowed native-weight edges, to decide if the problem has a cut of a positive weight is NP-hard. This implies that there is no polynomial time algorithm which guarantees a cut whose objective value is no less than $1/p(<I>)$ times the optimum for any polynomially computable polynomial p, where denotes the encoding length of an instance I.

  • The ordered weighted averaging (OWA) operator by Yager has received more and more attention since its appearance. One key point in the OWA operator is to determine its associated weights. Among numerous methods that have appeared in the literature, we notice the maximum entropy OWA (MEOWA) weights that are determined by taking into account two appealing measures characterizing the OWA weights. Instead of maximizing the entropy in the formulation for determining the MEOWA weights, the new method in the article tries to obtain the OWA weights which are evenly spread out around equal weights as much as possible while strictly satisfying the orness value provided in the program. This consideration leads to the least squared OWA (LSOWA) weighting method in which the program tries to obtain the weights that minimize the sum of deviations from the equal weights since entropy is maximized when the weights are equal. Above all, the LSOWA weights display symmetric allocations of weights on the basis of equal weights. The positive or negative allocations of weights from the median as a basis depend on the magnitude of orness specified. Further interval LSOWA weights are constructed when a decision-maker specifies his or her value of orness in uncertain numerical bounds.

  • The negative weight can be ofter seen in Hopfield neural network, which is difficult to implement negative conductance in circuits. Usually, the inverted output of amplifier is used to avoid negative resistors for expressing the negative weights in hardware implementation. However, there is some difference between using negative resistor and the inverted output of amplifier for representing the negative weight. This difference is discussed in this paper.

  • This study was performed to investigate the antimicrobial effects of hetero-chitosans and their oligosaccharides against three Gram-negative bacteria and five Gram-positive bacteria. Nine classes of hetero-chitosan oligosaccharides consisted of partially deacetylated chitosans; 90%, 75%, and 50% deacetylated chitosans. Based on molecular weight, they were prepared using an ultrafiltration membrane reactor system. Seventy-five percent deacetylated chitosan showed the highest antimicrobial acitivity as compared with the 90% and 50% deacetylated chitosan, and the activity was dependent on their molecular weights. It was apparent that the growth of Gram-negative bacteria is less inhibited in the presence of the heterochitosans and their oligosaccharides than Gram-positive bacteria. These results revealed that the antimicrobial effects of hetero-chitosans and their oligosaccharides depend on the degree of deacetylation, and their molecular weights.

  • This study was designed to find out clothing weights and clothing practice of elementary school children and their mothers and to investigate the correlation between clothing weights of the children and those of their mothers and to investigate the correlation between clothing weights and physical fitness of the children. RESULTS : 1. Total clothing weight of elementary school children was heavier than that of their mothers. 2. The results analyzed by sex and age of the children were as follows. Correlation was little recognized between lowerwear, underwear weights of the 6 year old girls and underwear weight of their mothers and between upperwear weight of 10 year old girls and underwear weight of their mothers. 3. In case of the children who made a clothing decision with their mothersm, correlation was recognized between total clothing weight of the children and total clothing, underwear, lowerwear weights of their mothers, and between upperwear weight of the children and upperwear weight of the children and upperwear, total clothing, underwear and outerwear weights of their mothers, and between outerwear weight of the children and lowerwear weight of their mothers. 4. Physical fitness had partly a negative correlation with the clothing weights in case of the boys, while not the girls. As a reslult, clothing weights of elementary school children were related to thermal sensation of their mothers.

  • In a pressurized fuel supply system of aircraft, a flow passage opening device is required to keep fuel continuously transferred from one tank to the other. The device utilizes balancing weights in order to follow up an acceleration at special conditions such as negative g. It is very difficult to test the device in a real high-speed and high-altitude test since severe test conditions and expensive supports are needed. Therefore, this paper deals with performance analysis of a flow passage opening device through low speed aircraft captive flight tests (CFT) including roll and negative-g maneuvers. It is shown that balancing weights in the device can open the passage in accordance with fuel position.

  • The rates of subcutaneos fat on the system of clothing weights including clothing microclimate subjective sensations were measured to get basic data to develop guideline for healthy clothing life. for this study skinfold thickness the rate of subcutaneos fot clothing microclimate subjective sensations and clothing weights were measured from 85 male and 105 female colligians. The results were as follows: 1. The rate of subcutaneos fat showed negative correlation with the temperature inside clothing in chest but not with the temperatures in back and thigh. The correlation was not significant between the rate of subcutaneos fat and humidity inside clothing 2. The correlation between the rate of subcutaneos fat and thermal sensations was positively significant at 5% level. However no correlation was found between the rate of subcutaneos fat and humid sensations. 3. There was significant correlation between the rate of subcutaneos fat and under clothing weights and total clothing weights.
