  • The coupling between electric, magnetic, and structural order parameters results in the so-called multiferroics, which possess ferroelectricity, ferromagnetism, and/or ferroelasticity. The simultaneous ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism (magnetoelectricity) allow potential applications in information storage, spintronics, and in magnetic or electric field sensors. Perovskite compound $BiFeO_3$ (BFO) is antiferromagnetic below Neel temperature of 647K and ferroelectric with a high Curie temperature of 1043K. It exhibits weak magnetism at room temperature(RT) due to the residual moment from a canted spin structure. It is likely that non-stoichiometry and second-phase formation are the factors which cause leakage in BFO. It has been suggested that oxygen non-stoichiometry leads to valence fluctuations of Fe ions in BFO, resulting in high conductivity. To reduce the large leakage current of BFO, one attempt is fabricating donor doped BFO compounds and thin films. We report here the successful fabrication of the Nd, Ti co-doped $BiFeO_3$ ceramics and thin films by pulsed laser deposition technique.

  • Dielectric properties were investigated at Mn doped 0.17($Ba_{0.53}$, $Pb_{0.47}$)0-$0.16Nd_2O_3$-$0.67TiO_2$ system in microwave frequency. It was observed that dielectric constant of 90.1, quality factor of 1320 (at 3.8GHz) and temperature coefficient of resonance frequency 2.3 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ for 0.5wt% Mn doped 0.17($Ba_{0.53}$, $Pb_{0.47}$)0-$0.16Nd_2O_3$-$0.67TiO_2$ system in sintering condition $1290^{\circ}C$/2hr. The quality factor increase due to the compensation effect of Mn ions yp to 0.5wt% and the decrease due to the interface relaxation effect. The temperature coefficient of resonance frequency increases to negative direction with increasing the amounts of Mn.

펄스형 Nd:YAG 레이저를 이용한 FTO 식각에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Scribing of FTO using Pulsed Nd:YAG Laser)

  • In material processing, a laser system with optimal laser parameters has been considered to be significant. Especially, the laser scribing technology is thought to be very important for fabricating DSSC(Dye sensitized solar eel!) modules with good quality. Moreover, the $TEM_{00}$ mode laser beam is the most dominant factor to decide the IPCE(Incident photon to current conversion efficiency) characteristics. In order to get the $TEM_{00}$ mode, a pin-hole is inserted within a simple pulsed Nd:YAG laser resonator. And the spatial field distribution is measured by using three size pin-hole diameters of 2.0, 6.0mm respectively. At that moment, each case has the same laser beam energy by adjusting the discharge voltage and pps(pulse per second). From those results, it is known that the pin-hole size of 2.0mm has the perfect $TEM_{00}$ mode. In addition, at the charging voltage of 1000V, 10pps and the feeding speed of 1.11mm/sec, the SEM photo of FTO(Fluorine-doped tin oxide) thin film layers shows the best scribing trace.

The Origin of Coercivity Enhancement of Sintered NdFeB Magnets Prepared by Dy Addition

  • The effect of Dy addition on the microstructure and magnetic properties of the sintered NdFeB magnets was investigated. The results of the microstructure analysis showed that Dy-free and Dy-doped samples are composed of $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ (P42/mnm) and a trace of Nd-rich phase. Dy addition reduces significantly the pole density factor of (004), (006) and (008) crystal faces as estimated by the Horta formula. Accordingly, the coercivity of the Dy-doped sample increases from 2038 $kA{\cdot}m^{-1}$ up to 2288 $kA{\cdot}m^{-1}$. The $H_{cj}(T)/M_s(T)$ versus $H^{min}_N/M_s(T)$ (Kronm$\ddot{u}$ller-plot) behavior shows that the nucleation is the dominating mechanism for the magnetization reversal in these two kinds of magnets, and two microstructural parameters of ${\alpha}_k$ and $N_{eff}$ are obtained. The Kronm$\ddot{u}$ller-Plot gives evidence for an increase of the ${\alpha}_k$ responsible for an increase of the coercivity as the result of the increase of the magnetic field as the magnetic domain reversed.

네오듐 고용 이산화우라늄의 고온 산화거동 (High Temperature Oxidation Behavior of Nd-doped $UO_2$)

  • $(U_{1-x}Nd_x)O_2$ 소결체를 $500^{\circ}C$에서 산화하여 얻은 $(U_{1-x}Ndx)_3O_8$ 분말의 상변화를 $900{\sim}1500^{\circ}C$의 공기 중에서 고온 산화 열처리를 하여 조사하였다. $1100^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도로 산화 열처리할 경우에 Nd 농도가 높은 $(U_{1-y}Nd_y)O_{2+z}$ 상과 $U_3O_8$ 상이 생성됨을 확인하였으며, 산화 열처리 온도가 높아질수록 $(U_{1-y}Nd_y)O_{2+z}$ 상에서의 Nd 농도는 감소하였다. 산화 열처리 온도의 증가에 따라서 $U_3O_{8-w}$ 입자로부터 $(U_{1-y}Nd_y)O_{2+z}$ 입자로의 U 양이온 및 Nd 양이온이 두 입자의 계면을 통해 농도 구배에 따른 확산에 의해서 $(U_{1-y}Nd_y)O_{2+z}$ 상 내에 U의 농도는 증가하고 Nd의 농도는 감소하게 된다. 이러한 현상은 산화 열처리 온도증가에 따라서 $U_3O_8$ 상에 대한 $(U_{1-y}Nd_y)O_{2+z}$ 상의 X-선 회절피크의 적분강도비 증가와 $(U_{1-y}Nd_y)O_{2+z}$ 상의 입자가 커지는 것과 연관하여 해석할 수 있었다.

Nd가 첨가된 BSST 세라믹스의 마이크로파 유전 특성 (Microwave Dielectric Properties of the BSST Ceramics doped with Nd.)

  • 0.15$(Ba_{0.95}Sr_{0.05})$O-0.15$(Sm_{2(1-x)}Nd-{2x})O_3-0.7TiO_2 (x=0{\sim}10[m/o])$ ceramics were fabricated by mixed-oxide method. Microwave dielectric properties was investigated with the contents of $Nd_2O_3$. Increasing the contents of $Nd_2O_3$ from 0 to 6[m/o], sintered density was increased 5.53 to $5.68[g/ cm^3]$. In the specimen with contents of $Nd_2O_3$(6[m/o]), dielectric content was maximum value of 78.14 and decreased with increasing the contents of $Nd_2O_3$. Quality factor was increased with the contents of $Nd_2O_3$.

  • $LiNbO_3$ 단결정에 $Nd_2O_3$0.2~0.5 wt.%를 칭량하여 결정을 성장 시켰다. 그리고 광손상을 억제하기 위해 ZnO 2~8 mole%를 첨가하여 광손상에 대한 저항성을 높였다. 본 연구에서는 Nd가 doping된 단결정을 성장시켜 주기적인 domain을 만들고자 하였다

  • 희토류 금속 산화물(RE=Ce, Pr, Nd, Eu, Er)을 1wt% 첨가한 큐빅 $ZrO_2(10 mol% Y_2O_3)$단결정을 스컬법으로 육성하였다. 육성된 단결정의 (111) 면에서의 임피던스 분석에 의한 전기적 성질을 조사하였다. 낮은 온도($500^{\circ}C$)에서 온도와 전기전도도와의 관계를 plot하였으며 $약300-400^{\circ}C$ 사이에서 전이를 관찰하였다. 저온 (전이전)과 고온(전이후 $50^{\circ}C$까지)산소 vacancy 이동에 관한 활성화 에너지를 구하였으며 전이로 인한 활성화 에너지의 차이는 안정제로 첨가한 이트륨 이온과 희토류 dopant 그리고 산소 vacancy와의 defect complexes를 붕괴하고 이온전도에 참여하게되는 산소 vacancy 형성에 관한 활성화 에너지로 볼 수 있다. yttria가 첨가됨에 따라, 또 희토류 산화물들의 첨가에 따른 활성화 에너지를 구하였으면 이온전도기구를 논의하였다. 육성된 단결정들은 첨가된 dopantdp 기인하여 Ce은 orang-red, Pr은 golden-yellow, Nd는 lilac, Eu는 옅은 pink, Er은 pink색으로 발현하였으며 가시광선 영역에서 광흡수 결과로서 나타내었다.
