Alkali rhyolites in the Cheonmunbong of the Mt. Baekdu stratovolcano show porphyritic texture in the glassy or aphanic groundmass. Major phenocryst is alkali-feldspar, pyroxene, and amphibole, and small amount of microphenocryst is olivine, quartz, opaque mineral (ilmenite). The content of $Fe^{2+}/(Fe^{2+}+Mg^{2+})$ and alkali elements in the mafic minerals is high. Alkali feldspar is classified as sanidine or anorthclase, olivine as fayalite, and pyroxene as ferro-hedenbergite of ferro-augite area. Amphibole belongs to alkali amphibole group, but FeO and $Fe_2O_3$ were not separated, so it is required future studies. Nb(-) anomaly suggesting that slab-derived materials might have played a primary role in the genesis of the rhyolite magma, is not observed. It is noted that they originated in the within plate environment which is not related to subduction zone of the convergent plate boundary. The Mt. Baekdu alkaline rocks are classified into the comendite series. The alkali rhyolites of the summit at Mt. Baekdu shows the disequilibrium mineral assemblages, suggesting that it evolved from thrachytic magma with experience of magma mixing as well as fractional crystallization.

In manufacture of slurry fuel, the effects of process parameters on the carbon dispersion stability have been investigated. The particle size and contents of the carbon slurry taken from 3 (top, medium, bottom) positions in fuel reservoir were analyzed to estimate the dispersion of the carbon in Jet A-1. Through the application of various additives, it was found that NB463S84 additive showed the best dispersion and stability of carbon at accelerated gravity condition. The mixer performance was compared by the observation of height change of carbon-containing layer and measurement of particle sizes at the same conditions. Application of the mixing conditions obtained from the lab-scale to bench scale manufacture confirmed the practical feasibility of our research.

Etherification of n-butanol to di-n-Butyl Ether was carried out over Keggin $H_{3+x}PW_{12-x}Nb_xO_{40}$ (x=0, 1, 2, 3) and $H_{6+x}P_2W_{18-x}Nb_xO_{62}$ (x=0, 1, 2, 3) Wells-Dawson heteropolyacid catalysts. Niobium-substituted Keggin and Wells-Dawson heteropolyacid catalysts with different niobium content were prepared. Successful preparation of the catalysts was confirmed by FT-IR, ICP-AES, and $^{31}P$ NMR analyses. Their acid properties were determined by $NH_3$-TPD (Temperature-Programmed Desorption) measurements. Heteropolyacid catalysts showed different acid properties depending on niobium content in both series. The correlation between acid properties of heteropolyacid catalysts and catalytic activity was then established. Acidity of Keggin and Wells-Dawson heteropolyacid catalysts decreased with increasing niobium content, and conversion of n-butanol and yield for di-n-butyl ether increased with increasing acidity of the catalysts, regardless of the identity of heteropolyacid catalysts (without heteropolyacid structural sensitivity). Thus, acidity of heteropolyacid catalysts served as an important factor determining the catalytic performance in the etherification of n-butanol to di-n-Butyl Ether.
The tetragonal tungsten bronze type of Sr$_{x}Ba_{1-x}Nb_{2}O_{6}$(SBN) (0.3$\le$x$\ge$0.7) ceramics was synthesized by the solid state reaction method, and the dielectric properties of SBN ceramics as a function of Sr/Ba ratio were examined. With increasing Sr/Ba ratio in SBN ceramics, the Curie temperature decreased and the maximum dielectric constant at the Curie temperature increased. The relaxor behavior of the SBN ceramics as a function of Sr/Ba ratio was quantitatively evaluated. More relaxor behavior of dielectric characteristics was observed as the ratio of Sr/Ba increased. The experimental results are explained with a viewpoint of crystallography of tungsten bronze structured SBN ceramics.

Recently the needs of high reliable substances of high strength and high ductility are gradually increased with the development of aerospace industry. The characteristics of maraging steel has high ductililty, formability, corrosion resistant and high temperature strength and is easy to fabricate, weld and treat with heat, and maintain an invariable size even after heat treatment. e steels are furnished in the solution annealed condition and they achieve full properties through martensitic precipitation aging a relatively simple, low temperature heat treatment. As is true of the heat treating procedures, aging is a time/temperature dependent reaction. Therefore, the objective of this stud)'was consideration of fatigue characteristics according as Nb(niobium) content and time/temperature of heat treatment change. Also the stress analysis, fatigue lift, and stress intensity factor were compared with experiment results and FEA(finite element analysis) result. The maximum ftresses of)( Y, and Z axis direction showed about $2.12\times$10$^{2}$MPa, $4.40\times$10$^{2}$MPa and $1.32\times$10$^{2}$MPa respectively. The fatigue lives showed about $7\%$ lower FEA result than experiment result showing almost invariable error every analyzed cycle. Stress intensity factor of the FEA result was lower about $3.5~ 10\%$ than that of the experiment result showing that the longer fatigue crack ten添 the hi인or error. It considered that the cause for the difference was the modeled crack tip having always the same shape and condition regardless of the crack growth.
Small black beans (SBB) were germinated up to 72 h at 23$^{\circ}C$, and 48 h germinated SBBs having the highest isoflavone content were chosen for noodle preparation. Some of the germinated SBB were treated by 20 min boiling (B) but some were not boiled (NB). For noodles, the germinated SBB flour replaced 15% or 20% of wheat flour, so five kinds of noodles were prepared and tested: control, 15B, 15NB, 20B, and 20NB. Higher amount of bean flour resulted in significant decrease of $L^*$ and increase of $b^*$ values in noodle. After 20 min cooking, the noodles containing germinated SBB flour showed less soluble sugar content in cooked water than control, and the lowest value was observed in 15B. For textural properties, the addition of SBB flour lowered hardness and adhesiveness of noodle, but increased chewiness than control. In sensory tests, the most acceptable sample was 15B because of developed texture and better appearance which seem to be good for health.
Andesitic pyroclastics and lava flows are deposited as a part of composite volcanoes by Cretaceous volcanic activity in Geojae Island, off the coast of Korea. The andesitic pyroclastics are composed of tuff breccia and lapilli tuff minor intercalated tuff. Lava flows are divided into dense and porphyritic andesite containing phenocrysts of plagioclase, pyroxene, and/or hornblende. The andesitic rocks represent charactersitcs of carc-alkaline BAR association with basalt, basaltic andesite, andesite, and dacite to rhyolite. Major element variations of the volcanic rocks show that $Al_2O_3$, total FeO, CaO, MgO and $TiO_2$ decrease with increasing $SiO_2$ but $K_2O$ and total alkalis increase, and represent differntiation trend of calc-alkaline rock series. In spider diagram, contents of Sr, K, Rb, Ba, and Th are relatively high, but contents of Nb, P, Ti and Cr are low. These petrochemcial characteristics are similar to those of rocks from island arc or continental margein related to plate subduction. Chondrite-normalized REE patterns of volcanic rocks are paralle to subparallel, with LREE enriched than HREE, and show gradual increase of negative Eu anomaly from basalt to dacite and rhyolite, suggesting comagmatic fractional crystallization with minor effects of assimilation and magma mixing. Andesitic rocks are assumed medium-K orogenic andesites that formed in the tectomagmatic environment of subduction zone under normal continental margin arc.
We studied petrological and geochemical characteristics of the Mesozoic volcanic rocks in the Da Hinggan Ling area northeast China, and discussed tectonic settings and origin of the Mesozoic volcanic rocks in northeast Asia. Volcanic rocks in Da Hinggan Ling area are composed of alkaline to subalkaline basalt-basaltic andesite-andesite-dacite-rhyolite, showing typical BAR(basalt-andesite-rhyolite) association. However, most of the volcanic rocks are basaltic and rhyolitic in composition, and andesitic rocks are relatively rare, which shows bimodal characteristics. Rb, Ba, Th and other incompatible element contents in the volcanic rocks are enriched, but the contents decrease with increasing the compatibility. REEs are fractionated and REE patterns of volcanic rocks are characterized by a high LILE/HFSE. On the tectonomagmatic discriminant diagram of Hf-Th-Nb, they fall into the fields for subduction-related destructive plate margin basalts and its differentiates. We suggest that the tectonomagmatic setting of Da Hinggan Ling area was located at the continental margin arc related with subduction environment during the Mesozoic time or may be derived from mantle plume contaminated geochemically from subducting slabs, although it is, at present within the Asia continent.
Volcanic ash samples of historical eruptions from Mt. Baekdu were analyzed for major oxides, trace and rare earth elements by a variety of analytical techniques. The results indicate that the ashes consist of approximately 58.8~71.1 wt.% $SiO_2$, 9.6~16.8 wt.% $Al_2O_3$, 4.5~6.9 wt.% $Fe_2O_{3t}$, 0.1~1.7 wt.% MgO, 0.3~1.6 wt.% CaO, 5.2~6.3 wt.% $Na_2O$, 4.3~5.9 wt.% $K_2O$ and less than 1.2 wt.% $TiO_2$. Thirty two trace metals including Ba, Cu, Cr. Co, Ni, Sr, V, Zn, and Zr were analyzed. The ashes can be divided two groups: group A(1 ka Millennium pumice, 1668 and $190{\underline{3}}$ pumice) and group B(1702 pumice) according to the relative enrichment of HREEs. The abundances of heavy metals such as Cu, Co, Mn, and Zn were relatively low. As compared to the Sakurajima volcanic ash, Baekdusan volcanic ash has low concentrations of Y, Nb, Pb, U, Sc, V, Ni and Cu and high concentrations of Zr, Ba, Hf, Cr, Co, Zn and rare-earth (except Eu).
Petrological and geochemical characteristics of A-type granite were studied from the Namsan and Tohamsan granites in the vicinity of Kyeongju city, southeastern Korea. The Namsan granite consists of hypersolvus alkali-feldspar granite in the northern part and subsolvus alkali-feldspar to biotite granite in the southern part. This hypersolvus granite usually has miarolitic cavities and is characteristically composed of quartz, single homogeneous one-feldspar (alkali feldspar) forming tabular microperthite crystals, or micrographic intergrowth with quartz, and interstitial biotite (Fe-rich annite), alkali amphibole (riebeckitic arfvedsonite) and fluorite. Petrographic and petrochemical characteristics indicate that the hypersolvus granite and subsolvus granite from the Namsan belogn to the A-type and I-type granitoid, respectively. The A-type granite is petrochemically distinguished from the I-type Bulgugsa granites of Late Cretaceous in South Korea, by higher abundance of $SiO_2$, $Na_2O$, $Na_2O+K_2O$, large highly charged cations such as Rb, Nb, Y, Zr, Ga, Th, Ce. U the REEs and Ga/Al ratio, and lower abundance of $TiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, CaO, $P_2O_5$, MnO, MgO, Ba, Sr, Eu. The total abundance of REEs is 293 ppm to 466 ppm, showing extensively fractionated granitic compositon, and REEs/chondrite normalized pattern shows flat form with strong Eu '-' anomaly ($Eu/Eu^{\ast}$=0.03-0.05). A-type granite from the Namsan area is thought to have been generated late in the magmatic/orogenic cycle after the production of I-type granite and by direct, high-temperature partial melting of melt-depleted, relatively dry tonalitic/granulitic lower crustal material with underplating by mantle-derived basaltic magmas associated with subduction.
